It's great to see you play this mission on one try, while I have to save and load a lot. Besides, I have another way to blow up the barrack without raising the alarm: I park the Fuel Truck across the electric train rail & its head point to the barrack, when the electric train arrive, it will make the whole thing blow up. And maybe this is accident so there would be no alarm. Besides, in this level, I use human decoy (stand and crawl at once) a lot to draw the guard to safety position to kill. Last thing, the 3 mobile guards in the cemetery could be kill silently by the escape truck.
@@Krapoutchniek I actually found a glitch when I was a kid. If you disguise yourself as the spy, you can in the General’s get away car. If you sound the alarm, he won’t be able you get in the car. So I killed the general since the glitch would not allow him to enter the car. Not realistic, but as a kid, it still worked for me.

The first time I saw this mission, I said "But this is impossible". But I beat it somehow. Hundreds of quick save-loads and just running away from the sights by the skin of my teeth... It was definitely the hardest mission for me to complete. Behind that comes the mission where you have to kill the chargers simultaneously to prevent them from blowing up the bridge. (and imagine how furious I was to see that after some missions there came a mission to blow up that same bridge. I'm sure the devs were all laughing!)
Such a great (and painful) memories, when I was too young and this awesome Masterpiece came out, I suffered a Lot with this mission, a real headache lol.
I actually like every Commandos units in this game. 1. The Green Beret is personally the best unit in the game. He can move quickly, climb, lift some barrels, move enemy's corpse, distract the enemy, hide in plain sight, and kill silently. The mission somehow becomes a bit difficult when he's not around. 2. The Sniper, with his sniper, is so unarguably badass. He can kill distant enemies that has a wide vision for you, and silently if I may add. 3. The Diver/Marine is another unit that can kill silently. The best thing about him is he can silently kill a sergeant with his units with some tricks and agility using his harpoons. 4. The Sapper is a monster among the units when he has his grenades. Destroying mission is also easier when he's around. 5. The Driver is overlooked due to his lack of killing ability, save for his gun. But once he gets in touch with enemy vehicle, whether a Panzer or a Tank, the mission may become way too easy as he can destroy everything in his way for you. 6. The Spy is personally the second best unit in the game. He can do everything that the Green Beret can do, except moving fast, lifting some barrels, and climbing walls. The mission is a bit hard for him until he has the enemy General's uniform. So, yeah, we all may have our own best units, be it the Green Beret, the Spy, or anyone. But none of them is a bad unit.
As always driver without machine gun, sniper we are lucky he has any of ammo :D and slow marine don't know for what in this mission. I love this game but there are insane sometimes
There is a bug in this mission. If the spy gets in the car in front of the headquarter when they alarm, the butcher (the general) cannot escape and he is stuck near the car. I have played the steam version of the game.

I will probably start working on it after I have finished uploading all the remaining missions for this game and the Beyond the Call of Duty expansion pack.
I think this game creates a particularly effect on every player: Whenever a mission start the first things I do is look if I have the spy and then look around the map. After playing two hard missions such as 12 and 14, then you find that you have the spy and this map looks like a piece of cake, until you realize that spy is underwear and suddenly you don´t have the green beret. By the way, I can´t stand how you deal with the whole game without saving it ever.
I finally finished this game today for the first time and it took me 32 hours total. Now, watching your videos makes me look like a sloppy idiot. Anyway, I wanted to share one thing I found out in this mission. Until now, I forgot about the harpoon, I didn't know it was a silent weapon. I was stuck here so I played around with everything I had because I wanted to solve it on my own rather than reading walkthroughs. I actually found a way to fire harpoon so fast, I could take out entire patrol of 5 soldiers without alarming anyone as long as spy was distracting them. Just quickly fire (LMB), cancel (RMB) and select harpoon again (J) and repeat. Those are my 2 cents. :)

Sloppy idiot it's me- 1)I still didn't pass the game.Now i am trying to replay it after 7 years.Back in a day i've stocked on the mission number 7,now i am on 15.Want to watch the normal walkthrough to understand it,I won't do it by my self. 2)Sometimes it was taking me hours to pass one mission cause i wanted to pass it without alarms. As i can see it's not always possible.Pyro studio are gods.I wish they remake commandos with almost the same engine,mechanics and graphics,With no doubt i'd buy it in a first day of it's release..
When I did this, the general only the came out of the house once in all my replays (and dammit, I didn't snipe him in time before he got in the car). No matter how many times I replayed it he never came out again. Finally I realized that he gets blown up while inside the house when that section of the house explodes after the Nazis shoot the car. In case anybody else was having that experience ( if you wait like a full minute and you don't see the general come out of the house to the left like this video shows), you can proceed with your escape.
This mission looks impossible when you first see it. I managed to complete it, though it took a lot more than 20 minutes. I didn't realize how much cover the low walls provided, so I lured soldiers and quickly ran their bodies to either the burned out building or behind some of the tombstones. I let the trolley hit the fuel truck to destroy the building, which meant no reinforcements could come with the alarm (which didn't sound with that method). Then, I quickly killed the general with the sniper on the roof. The patrols stayed in non-alerted mode, so I was able to get my men to the escape truck. I thought it was going to be an automatic escape from that point, so I ended up with the patrol in the graveyard shooting the truck. It must have been strongly armored, because their fire didn't destroy it.
Wow! I broke the game a little to pass the mission. Did almost the same until I got clothes for the spy. Then I just took the escape car by a spy. General couldn't use it. Even if I leave the car. Then just did it loud. It was very interesting to find out a proper solution and I'm here. Probably I'll watch all the videos when I complete the game.
Wow. When I was doing this mission, I put the Sniper on the white roof and shoot the general from there. Also I didn't know that I could drag bodies to southeast of the river and they won't be noticed.
How in the hell at the 6:00 mark do you kill from that far away with the harpoon? This part is frustrating me so much, it simply won't let me shoot over the bridge!
If i say the truth i didn't able to pass this misson. so had to delete it. but i finished commandos 2 and 3. Commandos 1 is harder than 2 and 3 so i must say you are a geniuse.

so you basically have to blow up the bulding THEN kill the general at the gate. I had a thought in my mind that if i destroy the building first then the alarm will went off and like the game stated, i would fail to assassinate him. So i climbed up the rooftop with the sniper and shoot the general down during his morning walk, and then the alarm inevitably sounded. I thought that was the right thing to do, but boy was i wrong. The alarm went off for me as i try to blow up the base afterwards, but that is just outright IMPOSSIBLE with this line-up. After hours of trying so many different ways to blow the building up so many different strats, all of which failed, i ended up here. I guess i must now take the L and retry the level
For beginners, I guess you learned that when you killed the general first, alarms won't matter because you get to blow up the HQ at your own time and it will be mission accomplished.
Still watching on 2023. I killed that guy in front of everyone ( all those guards without kill them ) my cousing could not stop asking me how I did it... Then I was replaying it to try again and it was hards as hell. And now I ask myself how I did it in that time ? I was a kid with 8 years.

This is the hardest level as far I can remember since you've to plan and do it perfectly. lucky we have save and load function so if you fuck up, you can reload from last check point.

@Shubham Upadhyay i've seen other commandos videos and apparently, when you ride a nazi vehicle once, it get 'flagged' as 'yours' and that's why nazis shoot the 'enemy' vehicle
Could never get through this mission back in the day, I couldn't even get away from the starting position. Bought the game again on GOG last week and had to get it this time, which I did, but completely differently. I actually had my spy go into the yard and distract one of the guards, while my diver crawled into the bottom left corner of the yard. When he was discovered every soldier ran up and held him at gunpoint, while my spy finished them off one by one with the poison, including the butcher. You have to be quick though, because otherwise one of the soldiers will notice what's going on.
I killed the general from the rooftop, but as i escaped it showed i didnt destroy my targets. let me try this way of blowing up the building but it looks impossible with the alarm gone. Lot of tricks in the comments thanks everyone
2018... And I rmb sleepless nights... I got hold of some commandos cds back then and one was kinda bugged. I cudnt save the game midway thru a mission. So I spent sleepless nights just going mission by mission...
As a kid, I don't think I've ever beat this mission. I just now beat it as an adult. It's amazing how difficult the game is when you don't have your Green Beret. Also, I'd like to point out that on the video briefing for this level it does not say where you are supposed to extract from or that you have to blow up the headquarters to succeed. It through me off for a bit when I was playing though.

A prima vista sembra insormontabile... so che ci sarà un modo ma nelle missioni passate siamo già andati vicini a una difficoltà incredibile, e questa è più difficile delle precedenti 14 messe insieme! So che qui sopra c'è la soluzione ma prima ci voglio sbattere fino a che mi sfinisce, al limite uso i trucchi ma non mi piace affatto l'idea, solo per situazioni estreme dove non puoi fare effettivamente in maniera diversa. Anche se appunto la soluzione ci deve essere non mi puoi cavare il Berretto Verde che è l'unico che riesce a fare le cose in maniera silenziosa proprio qui che c'è più fitto che in tutte le altre missioni! Cioè devo usare due Uomini in contemporanea? Marine per il coltello che poi manco può spostare i corpi... e poi la Spia, senza uniforme tra l'altro... vai avanti tutta la missione così?! Siete pazzi?? Già muoverne uno in maniera corretta è un'impresa, due li puoi usare in un frangente massimo, qui sempre così è?! Il giardino del Generale poi mi sembra praticamente impossibile liberarlo, non era possibile neanche con l'esca del BV. In più la Spia non ha neanche l'uniforme nemica che ho visto già dove va presa, ma liberati un'pò il campo fino a lì... se inizi a sparare quello scappa, ma si può fare senza sparare? Che poi non mi piace, è contro lo stile del gioco sparare prima della fine della missione e non si risolve niente se non rendere il tutto ancora più difficile... il bello è essere silenziosi. E non si hanno neanche gli esplosivi del Geniere. E' abbastanza? Qui non si tratta di scalare l'Everest, quello che fa "incazzare" è che è come scalare l'Everest con la T-Shirt... datemi una macchina da F1 e ditemi di provare a fare il tempo di Hamilton, ci provo anche se farò una figura di merda, ma chiedere di farlo senza benzina è una carognata! Gioco STUPENDO. Ma qui si esagera, almeno a prima vista. Non voglio pensare come saranno le missioni seguenti e le ultime...
Alternative way: to get the german uniform, to put the spy into de car of the german general, to get de tank with the driver and kill everybody with it. When the alarm is active, the german general wont be able to get into his car because the spy is into it so you can finish the mission very bloodly. (soorry my english, i hope have been unterstood)
So wait i have been all the way up to the point where you kill the sentry on the south east exit of the headquarters. How am i supposed to know or even assume for that matter that moving the car infront of the building is gonna cause the soldiers to shoot at it? What the hell
Haha, I guess that's something you pick up if you play this game a lot. They shoot at any vehicle that you have ever been on. You can also ride the vehicle to them, they start shooting at it, get out of the vehicle and they walk away because they are set on destroying your vehicle.

It's one of the 2 missions where the green beret is not available. Its title could even make the player think he was dead, since "the butcher" is also his nickname.
+Rodolfo Bergner I played the game using the 1024x768 resolution. The mission introduction and statistics screens actually appear smaller in-game, though. I just made them larger by cropping out the black borders during editing.
Man it was so frustrating to discover that in gog's mission I still needed captain rank :( I played too cautiously early on... now i'll have to get at least 2 gold stars on each of the remaining 4 missions (16, 17, 18 and 19) to get the bonus one

I parked the car right outside the Enemy Headquarters, and when the patrol men and the soldiers blew it up, the general went inside the other side of the building. no man you cant kill a team of 5 or 3 without alarm. thats the point of keeping them together

Yup did that too my first run 16 yrs ago.
The harpoon shot at 6:03 is impossible, I can’t get it done.. Another solution is to sneak behind the patrol from left side

Patch was released which shortened range of harpoon and you propably have it.

how you get to run this slow or normal gamespeed??? i have the problem that this games runs much to fast to play :(

your harpoon has a really big range compared to my game.. why?
His game is patched. If you have the game on steam or GOG you get the patch along with the game.
i have it on steam but have the old low range

@Shubham Upadhyay i've seen other commandos videos and apparently, when you ride a nazi vehicle once, it get 'flagged' as 'yours' and that's why nazis shoot the 'enemy' vehicle

Me too. I had to go back by loading one of my saved games and put the sniper on the roof. So I shot the general a bit after they sound the alram.
Could never get through this mission back in the day, I couldn't even get away from the starting position. Bought the game again on GOG last week and had to get it this time, which I did, but completely differently. I actually had my spy go into the yard and distract one of the guards, while my diver crawled into the bottom left corner of the yard. When he was discovered every soldier ran up and held him at gunpoint, while my spy finished them off one by one with the poison, including the butcher. You have to be quick though, because otherwise one of the soldiers will notice what's going on.
I can proudly say i completed this mission as a kid somehow😅😅

I killed the general from the rooftop, but as i escaped it showed i didnt destroy my targets.
let me try this way of blowing up the building but it looks impossible with the alarm gone.

2018... And I rmb sleepless nights... I got hold of some commandos cds back then and one was kinda bugged. I cudnt save the game midway thru a mission. So I spent sleepless nights just going mission by mission...

This level is damn difficult
As a kid, I don't think I've ever beat this mission. I just now beat it as an adult. It's amazing how difficult the game is when you don't have your Green Beret. Also, I'd like to point out that on the video briefing for this level it does not say where you are supposed to extract from or that you have to blow up the headquarters to succeed. It through me off for a bit when I was playing though.

Cioè, secondo l'idea loro come cazzo si fa sta missione? A prima vista sembra insormontabile... so che ci sarà un modo ma nelle missioni passate siamo già andati vicini a una difficoltà incredibile, e questa è più difficile delle precedenti 14 messe insieme! So che qui sopra c'è la soluzione ma prima ci voglio sbattere fino a che mi sfinisce, al limite uso i trucchi ma non mi piace affatto l'idea, solo per situazioni estreme dove non puoi fare effettivamente in maniera diversa. Anche se appunto la soluzione ci deve essere non mi puoi cavare il Berretto Verde che è l'unico che riesce a fare le cose in maniera silenziosa proprio qui che c'è più fitto che in tutte le altre missioni! Cioè devo usare due Uomini in contemporanea? Marine per il coltello che poi manco può spostare i corpi... e poi la Spia, senza uniforme tra l'altro... vai avanti tutta la missione così?! Siete pazzi?? Già muoverne uno in maniera corretta è un'impresa, due li puoi usare in un frangente massimo, qui sempre così è?! Il giardino del Generale poi mi sembra praticamente impossibile liberarlo, non era possibile neanche con l'esca del BV. In più la Spia non ha neanche l'uniforme nemica che ho visto già dove va presa, ma liberati un'pò il campo fino a lì... se inizi a sparare quello scappa, ma si può fare senza sparare? Che poi non mi piace, è contro lo stile del gioco sparare prima della fine della missione e non si risolve niente se non rendere il tutto ancora più difficile... il bello è essere silenziosi. E non si hanno neanche gli esplosivi del Geniere.

Qui non si tratta di scalare l'Everest, quello che fa "incazzare" è che è come scalare l'Everest con la T-Shirt... datemi una macchina da F1 e ditemi di provare a fare il tempo di Hamilton, ci provo anche se farò una figura di merda, ma chiedere di farlo senza benzina è una carognata!

Alternative way: to get the german uniform, to put the spy into de car of the german general, to get de tank with the driver and kill everybody with it. When the alarm is active, the german general wont be able to get into his car because the spy is into it so you can finish the mission very bloodly. (soorry my english, i hope have been unterstood)

So wait i have been all the way up to the point where you kill the sentry on the south east exit of the headquarters. How am i supposed to know or even assume for that matter that moving the car infront of the building is gonna cause the soldiers to shoot at it? What the hell
Haha, I guess that's something you pick up if you play this game a lot. They shoot at any vehicle that you have ever been on. You can also ride the vehicle to them, they start shooting at it, get out of the vehicle and they walk away because they are set on destroying your vehicle.

What made this partovualt mission so hard was the fact that it is one of the few missions where the Green Beret (Tiny) is not available.
It's one of the 2 missions where the green beret is not available. Its title could even make the player think he was dead, since "the butcher" is also his nickname.
what resolution are you using? it seems larger than the game was officialy designed for, mine seems more zoomed. :p
+Rodolfo Bergner I played the game using the 1024x768 resolution. The mission introduction and statistics screens actually appear smaller in-game, though. I just made them larger by cropping out the black borders during editing.

Man it was so frustrating to discover that in gog's mission I still needed captain rank :( I played too cautiously early on... now i'll have to get at least 2 gold stars on each of the remaining 4 missions (16, 17, 18 and 19) to get the bonus one

I parked the car right outside the Enemy Headquarters, and when the patrol men and the soldiers blew it up, the general went inside the other side of the building. +Abhinav Mathur That seems a little odd. If the building itself is still intact, blowing it up with another car should kill the general inside it, too.

when i played this for some reason the escape vehicle was registered as an enemy (red dot on map) so I mowed down pretty much everyone with impunity
That is because you let the spy be the last one to get in, that's why it showed up as red and why they wouldn't shoot it.
