I used to think of Sandu as perhaps the Dac specialist or rather he could interview all well but his Dac reviews were typically far more detailed and helpful than other channels. I'm starting to think he might be the same with DAPs as well. He does deep on specs, functionality, sound quality, comparisons, and value on his vids but keeps it to ~15min or under then gives you a full write-up. It's a nice balance of content between YT and written; well done SN!
Thanks for the excellent review and comparison to prior M11 models as well as Fiio's current TOTL DAP, the M15. Interesting to see how it will compare against the upcoming M17....
The m17 will be obsolete too,probably won't come out until 2022
I just got mine, and damn, it is good. I feel sorry for all the people who miss out because this is really special.
I just hope they release it again without the Snapdragon because the outside is everything I am looking for in a DAP (and is what is making me wanting a Walkman even though I know their battery lives are terrible)

Excellent in depth review! - when used in usb dac mode the m11 pro has a slight lag (like 0.4 sec) - did they manage to remove the lag now completely so it can be used with games and music production? Other reviewers say there is no lag anymore at all (just like an audio interface ) but I wanted to cross check with you just in case
Hi Emil, drop the alltodsd and other similar functions, I think that would help...
@@serviciulcomunicare3048 i have, the only thing that helps is to increase the bitrate to 192khz, that seems to help the buffer. I'm hoping the m11 plus doesn't need that

if you plan on using the Apple Music app now that they have hi-res audio you will have to upgrade to the M11Plus... because the older M11 won't play the music app at all...

New R6 2020 👀?
My M11 battery swelled up and cracked open the case. FiiO did not work with me to get a replacement. FYI :: It should be noted that my M11 was used as an external DAC during the failure circumstance. Could be a charging circuit problem for FiiO. As the price increases, this kind of issue becomes more important. I'm sure this unit sounds quite good. Should be good as long as user does not leave it hanging on a USB cable.

I owned this model. When it work its great. But, it gets extremely hot. So hot that it needs to be shut down to cool itself!
What DAP do you use now?
daps now become bigger and bigger almost like a smartphone in size. the looks also seems to mimic smartphones by overall.look screen and all..i still like d designs of cayin, astel and kern and the bit opus.. there designs are well thought of.. u can easily distinguished them from smartphones.. and customized os is still better not full android.

Hi Sandu, I think the weak spot of this new-old player is the price tag. Many of those who buy into the Fiio's audiophile ecosystem are not really interested in replacing their day by day browsing devices, either phones or tablets. So the hefty price tags its kind of a left off, and the bigger screen is not enough for a trade in like the bigger size and weight. Not convinced neither by the bigger battery, almost a necessary thing with a bigger screen and beefed up CPU. Would be the price difference acceptable then for merely a newer android version (already crippled by the fast spaced smartphones industry) an extra mega of RAM and a gimmicky volume rocker? Its not for me, but good try Fiio!
It's actually not much more expensive than what you'd have to pay for a m11pro. Also compared to high end dacs it's not that dear either.

Another android player…. I’d rather use my mobile with an external dac.
I see a huge benefit of using an Android player over a mobile with a dongle, sound quality is probably the biggest one...but I get it why you don't need another device in your pocket, especially when it weights a ton. I'm using portable music players since I was ~10 years old (like 27 years ago) and I'll probably use them until I'll depart to Valhalla. They always appealed to me...
@@Soundnews I do use also a portable media player for my library which is the Sony WM-1A. My problem is with android and the past experience with 3 android daps. If a company is serious about daps they should be developing their own software with streaming services integrated. Till then I am off the current android players due to poor battery life and all the problems I had in the past with android. For example battery draining without reason and having to manually kill apps running in the background. Using a software that was not developed for audio playback is not the way forward, at least for me
I’m with another audiophile here. Could not get Amazon hd to run on my M7 and eventually consigned it to the drawer after trying and failing to use Qobuz on it. Love the idea but if they don’t run streaming services they just won’t do. You can get excellent quality from a dongle, only issue is battery draining of the phone.

@@andycrook6508 Not all daps can run all streaming services. Amazon HD isn’t available in every country either.
