These are 6 Games Like Unicorn Overlord. It's a unique game, so it isn't easy to find games that are similar. But these will give you a place to start. #unicornoverlord #jrpg #games
Ogre Battle, and Ogre Battle 64 were my childhood, and have been off and on looking for games to pick up that style again. So thanks for pointing out Unicorn Overlord!
Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen is still my favorite console SRPG. I might have liked Ogre Battle 64 but I never owned an N64 and only knew one person who briefly owned the game so I didn't get far in it. I think I was a battle or two beyond the point where the Legion system gets introduced. Unicorn Overlord looks great and I hope to get it soon.
I appreciate the Langrisser shoutout. I enjoyed my time with the remasters and the additional routes are cool but I still equally recommend the original ones as well. Some of the changes to the gameplay and the healing mechanisms really didn't jive with me, and in some instances changed or broke some scenarios in the game.
Glad to see Soul Nomad getting some attention. It is such an overlooked game. I suspect a victim of coming out right at the end of the PS2's life cycle. It is also much more accessible now that it is out on modern platforms so it is one I'd highly recommend that also doesn't require breaking the bank like a lot of the other good games of the genre.
Absolutely love Ogre Battle, will still give it a play every now and again to this day. The similarity Unicorn Overlord shared to it sold the game on me immediately.
Glad you gave Symphony of War a shout out. It was pretty much the best indie strategy RPG of the last few years, and you also actually mentioned Dragon Force! I still have my disc. All my friends kept wanting to borrow it too back in the '90s too... 😂
Great video! If I had anything to add it would be Dark Wizard on the Sega CD. There is nothing else like it. Its like a perfect blend of a JRPG and Brigandine. If you put in the time you will fall in love!
I wish this would get us another Ogre Battle. While Unicorn Overlord is far superior, it’s had decades of innovation, and hardware to achieve that. I think Ogre Battle still has a place. Because there were things I wished Unicorn Overlord did differently mainly the story. It was mostly just fight recruit repair, fight recruit repair. I wanted the story to have more things going on. The tactical combat was the best in the genre I feel. Usually tactics games just feel like drawn out affairs with tactics not playing much of a part, while in Unicorn every move you made had many choices, and I had to consider how the outcome for each choice would hurt or benefit me
A tangentially similar game would be Fallen Legion. Especially the sequel Revenants has a similar art style. The battles look like UO battles, but you control them like in Indivisible where you must time blocking and your attacks are real time. The level structure is a bit different but ultimately linear progression with branches and bonus paths based on your story choices.
Its nice that u make which game is like unicorn overlord. I did play symphony of war when it. Also i just recently heard of unicorn overlord and wanted to play it but sadly its just not in pc when i check it so welp... thou theres gonna be the 2cd game of symphony of war
I appreciate this video, but nothing seems good enough. I finished this game and got the hundred percent all trophies and right after that it felt like a gut punch since I now have no reason to play it and nothing like it to play Instead.
I get that feeling a lot. Usually the best thing is to take some time to let it digest. Maybe watch some shows, play other kinds of games. Then if you still feel like you want something similar come back and look around.
I'm kind of surprised you didn't bring up Brigandine's sequel, since that's on most modern systems. Not sure it's more than kind of like this one, given the way it works in battles is far more grand strategy than RTS that this one is, but it's fun if you're into it. It's also quite pretty to look at, though obviously not AS pretty as UO given VanillaWare has mastered beautiful by this point.
I very briefly mentioned it, mostly because I haven't played it yet and I don't like endorsing a game if I haven't at least tried it. It looks very similar though so I'd like to give it a shot at some point!
@@GameClouds I can say it plays like the old one, with more people and unit types, and a completely different setting, so you don't need to know the old one to play it. It also does well with showing the differences in the 6 kingdoms you can play having their own reasons for being what they are. It's also quite easy on easy mode, which is good for replaying to get all the stuff, and boosting it to its hardest mode is...ouch.
Generation of Chaos: Pandora's Reflection and Growlanser wayfarer of time are quite similar. Though only Growlanser has a mechanic where when magic users are near each other they mix their spells and bombard you from far away.

you won't regret it.

It's a very cool game, well worth getting into. I hope you enjoy it whenever you get around to playing it!
If you’re interested in playing most of these games, may I suggest money… and lots of it 😅
Or emulation.

Yes, the originals are better, particularly the battle animations

Dragon Force continues to be my favorite game of all time! It is nice to see someone else acknowledge its existence.

I had never heard of Dragonforce before. What an interesting looking game, reminds me of Kessen 2.
Thank you for the recommendations
there are NO game like Unicorn Overlord, it's itself the synthesis of decades of all SRPG/TRPG genres!
This means it shares similarities with the games that influenced it! Thanks for watching.
@@GameCloudsof course, I'm teasing/joking ;) just loving my time with UO, I'm like a child discovering a masterpiece
It really is something special :D
Game is so good i beat all the contents in 200 hrs. Now feel so empty, i still want more 🗿
@@penguins0301I dread this moment myself... did you play berwick saga? will keep you busy until UO2 :)

Shining Force, a Sega series. Probably the true sequel/evolution to Dragon Force.
Symphony of War is good and addictive my only concern is the character portrait designs 😅
You forgot Sengoku Rance :)
Hearing Dragon Force is relatively unknown makes me sad.
My recommendation for those on a budget is Lost Technology on steam.
Me pointing out that unicorn and soul has the same energy some dude say "how come ?"

And i thought you gonna include Grand Kingdom.its have quite some similarity since ita made by same company

Batle brothers is best
Wow the Langisser remakes on Switch look worse then the originals!
