Frédéric Chopin Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35 [0:02] 1. Grave - Doppio movimento [7:25] 2. Scherzo - [8:40] Più lento - [12:09] Tempo I [13:56] 3. Marche funèbre: Lento [22:12] 4. Finale: Presto Maurizio Pollini, piano June 7, 1984 Vienna, Musikverein, Großer Saal (This performance was given as part of "Wiener Festwochen 1984".)
When dust will be settled down, Pollini will be recognized as the greatest pianist of '900 and, of course, of all times. And not for his steel-like fingers, but for his superb, superior intellectual and musical integrity. When, as here, he is in a state of grace, he makes you hear something you already heard hundreds of times as if it were the first time, and this happens almost every bar.
music is subjective. I share the same Italian heart as Pollini, and he's a superb pianist, but there is no "greatest pianist of al time". I too could say: "Zimerman is the greatest pianist of the '900s" or of all time, but it would still be subjective, because every artist lives art in their way.
@@aefnostI agree with you and I think we have been lucky to have a chance to listen to him, Zimmerman, Argerich and many others. Each of them will have a special place in our memory and in the history of interpretation
