How are you Zara and Julius? The thing I like about what you have said is that "culture shocks" you are experiencing in my native Uganda show us what we need to do to clean up our act. It takes people like you from abroad to let us know what we are doing well and what we are not or what needs to be done to make life better. We often take our way of life for granted, without realising that we may not be doing what is right. Thank you for your observation.
As a Ugandan who lives in Europe now, the Pet peeves mentioned drive me up the walllllllll. 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
In Ugandan 🇺🇬 culture women kneel in deference to men, it's Ugandan etiquette.
Yeah I know now. But it's a heck of a culture shock. It still shocks me but I'm cool with it
@@AfricaEverAfter ☺
Number 52 here waiting for more and more information about Uganda. Thanks for the work!🙏
You were on point about the lies! And the time keeping
Very hilarious cultural shocks😅🤭 As a Ugandan 🇺🇬 I think I understand many of what you're talking about 😂❤
Nice to see you guys are managing to get around our Uganda. Wish you the best.
Watching live from Saudi Arabia
Im new here from ug connect youtube channel ..i wish you all rhe best in Uganda
Love you two family
Interesting perspective guys. (1) Rest assured that every Ugandan hates the service at the restaurants. (2) White lies are common place and no one takes it to heart. (3) Gestures of gratitude are culturally ingrained , however small or big (4) Commission i.e, taking cut of the modus operandi, what we ultimately want is the product or service sought to be of a higher quality. Its a tacit agreement which is recognised by every Ugandan. Put differently if the market price of product X is $2 and someone is able to secure it for $1.20 without cutting corners on quality take it and run. Literally everyone does business that way. (5) Boda Boda have loved and hated in equal measure 😂 (6) Truth be told our cuisines are unremarkable and the seasoning is minimal at best, just like I like it. Ps I'm no foodies, so go figure. I could eat cardboard with ketchup for all i care. 😅. Hair cuts, beard shave and scrub up generally no more than $2. Good luck folks, you're just the sort of people we need. Well heeled and well spoken, the less ghetto folks we attract, the better. Shalom!!!
Yes in uganda we negotiate alot if you don't know that you may end up buy for double 😂
I stayed in Ethiopia for 3mos may-Aug of 2023. And had such a wonderful experience with the police their. I would pay for them to get their boots shined. Something that would never happen here in the USA.
Yeah, in my country, lying is normal. That's the thing you hv to getaway used and learn. And that buyer thing it's called " brokers" okuyiriba in luganda 😅😅
In uganda everything is communal, you have to learn to associate, make freinds with your neighbours, because its the culture. people are always willing to help a stranger.
We are learning that.
As ugandan all you mentioned r true. Just get Ugandan friend to shop with b'cos they will charge you according to appearance...But challenge lies b'cos of u keep, they will take it for success and do it AGAIN.
Sounds like cali driving to me 😅
See would've been short in us.
Time is an issue
Yeah... Time is one thing we can't get back and some places here like to take to much of it for no good reason.
Have you been to local market bathrooms?
No, but now that you mention it I bet the local market bathrooms are from a horror film.
Not lying but we Ugandans jokes alot 😅
Instead of negotiating, pretend to go to the next vendor, and if the vendor quotes you a price you don't like, tell them the last vendor was cheaper and pretend to walk away. Usually, the vendor would lower the price. As to lying, you are dealing with human beings and it is universal. I see a lot of it with local contractors and as a military wife, I saw a lot of it in Europe-- GIs would buy cigarettes and booze from the PX for their local 'friends' and then inflate the price. It was cheaper than on the local market but it was still lying.
Great advice! Thanks! And we agree lieing is everywhere. I think part of the shock comes from not knowing when we're being lied to because we're still unfamiliar with the culture. Thanks for watching!
That super market thing iam a ugandan but i dont wanr someone to hold my basket for me
Right I'm not a fan of it.
Thank you for loving my country. So many Westerners they give a bad review in my country😮😮😮
We absolutely love Uganda.
Bro is like most of us ( brothahs) in the States
Bruh tell me about it
Yes....the lying is a problem. It seems to be a part of the culture across Africa. My family has often seen in certain malls...one has to pay to use the restroom. What!? Unreal.Yes... a meet you in 20 mins will extend to a wait of 2 hrs. Lol. The bowing and the overservicing of certain jobs "gas pumping " or "immigration consultants" vs hiring an actual immigration officer was a bit strange for me also. All in all..as time goes your family will learn to adjust accordingly. Thanks for sharing.
The word "taxi" means something different in Uganda than in the US. In Uganda a taxi is usually a minibus that runs a fixed route and has numerous passengers. If you want a private vehicle that takes you to a prearranged location, that is called a "hire car".
A little correction here: it's called a "special hire car"❤😂😂
@@gerrytushhMy Ugandan fiancée just says "hire car" so that's what I thought it was.
it's a "Special"
@@williamswetnam4070 it is well 😊💕
@@jimobel sipesho😂😂
Eat his food until yours comes 😅
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So sad about the lying. As a Ugandan 🇺🇬 I'm embarrassed.
Its a part of life. We see it and we all will adjust accordingly. Hopefully it gets better
It's not only ugandans ,pretty much in all black African countries. Lying is not as bad as it is in the USA, most especially in a relationship . My first western girlfriend I loved when I first arrived in North America, she broke up with me because I lied to her one day that I traveled to a nearby town for 1 day while in actuality I was still in the city assisting my oncle to get a new apartment 😂😂😂.
In Africa, this lie is not a thing but Western girls 😅 ,shee felt as if I was the person that killed Jesus
It’s not nice. But like it’s so bad that it’s funny. Like you’re seating in a matatu and you’re just leaving down town. Someone recieves a call and they tell the person on the phone “ hey am in intinda now, give me 15-30 mins max” yet he knows he won’t be there in time due to traffic jam minimum 1 hour. Everyone in the matatu knows he’s lying 😂😂😂 but people are so shameless bae they all do it so no one judges that behavior. It’s part of Ugandan culture like people don’t even get pissed it’s like you know the person maybe on time or extremely late 🤷♀️ 😂😂😂😂
@@imhotep1613😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
am sori its us our word is not our bound like u guys maybe we can pick a leaf but on behalf of all Ugandans we didn't get the memo of honest is the best policy
Sir, you better learn to negotiate. It is what we know. But, men don't know that thing of negotiations.
I'm working on it. I just have a very short tolerance for mess.
Yea, I identify with you, and my wife doesn't like me to buy stuff. To her, I buy expensive, just b'se my bargaining power is weak,😁😁
Lol 🤣🤣 yup that's me too
Guy is a guy 😂😂😂.Big up 2 y'all
Appreciate it
You almost sound like you're not from the US. customers service in the US is sh,,, you're the the life. And don't even realize it, enjoy your blessings, you can't live like that no where in the US. Promise. ❤
You can't go to Walmart short 😂
Americans aren't used to hospitality
Sounds like you’re getting scammed on everything because they know you’re not from there
I'm sure we have on some stuff but we've cut some stuff off now
