A good representation of modern-day society's notion of side hustles and the get-rich-quick ideology. Once they actually put in hours, they realize how stressful it is lmao
For real.....freelancing is stressful as a bitch especially at first, I tried it a bit and stalled until I just went for company based tech roles lmao.

The monotony of a dead end 9 to 5 job vs the stress rollercoaster of ups and downs as freelancer. I've tried both, and a crappy 9 to 5 is particularly soul-crushing and life draining. Freelancing does keep you sharp and on your toes though.
Real. I tried this over a regular job for about 8 months - It's really hard getting a client if you're new, and if you DO get one they might be hard to please I would dread getting a new message from them at night. Then when you're done the pay is often low (especially if you're new and you gotta take whatever you can get) and you don't get access to the payment for 1-2 weeks. No one tells you that. You're better off using those new "youtube university" skills for a real job
Aw it’s tragic to see how everyone feels about their freelancing journey. It’s possible but it is absolutely hard work. I guess I am one of the lucky ones out here but it is possible and once you get your systems down and figure out how to discipline yourself it’s absolutely super rewarding when you have your own employees looking to you for the plan ahead. Keep grinding boys don’t let the boomers keep you down 🙏🏽

I can actually relate to some of this having done some freelance agency work before doing motion graphics. I wasn't doing Fiver or Guru, I actually did work as a remote freelancer through an agency. Their work was only semi-steady though, but I thought they had a good system in place. But I did spend a lot of hours grinding away. Part of it is knowing how to prioritize. I enjoyed the work, but it could be very stressful at times. The worst thing that was ever done to me was when I applied to a major studio. I wont name them for liability reasons. But they gave me a test to do where I was to use their assets to make a promo video for them. Having worked in radio for a number of years, I have a lot of experience with audio editing and mixing, and I did a remix of one one of their music beds to make it fit the video duration. I week later, I got a rejection letter. No biggie. But a few months later, I saw one of their promos, and they used the very mix of the music bed I made, so they basically stole my work.

Agree. Freelancing is an extra income that should not be part of the money you need for your daily life. I calculate the same way.
I was making reasonable money freelance writing for over 5 years, then chatgpt came along and my clients all dropped me. Now I do manual labour.
