- Yes, another Kiln opening and this one is extra special because it is a Luster firing. What is Luster you may ask well it is an overglaze enamel that you apply after you have glaze fired your pieces then you fire them for a 3rd time but this time only to cone 018. Here I have done an entire kiln in Mother of Pearl luster. Other lusters I like to use are gold, platinum, copper and brass
The luster I use is made by Duncan and I a full class on tv.clayshare.com and a UA-cam video here showing how to use lusters, check them out I think you'll enjoy it.

Jessica, thank you for your helpful videos and the luster is beautiful. I’m hoping you can help me with a different question. I would like to have metal hooks or hangers to hang decorative pieces and I’ve been unable to find anyone that discusses this. Even FB groups have come up dry so I’m starting to wonder if it’s an idiot question. Do you use high temp wire and fire it in the piece or are the glued in? What considerations are necessary? You are the only artist I’ve noticed that talks about hanging pieces at all and I would appreciate any help you might could offer. Thank you.
You can use nichrome wire and embedded it into the pieces for hanging when you are making it or you can put holes in the foot then use picture hanging wire to hang it after it has been fired. Also you can epoxy a"D" ring hanger onto it after it is fired as well. There are many hanging options for pottery and your are right very few people take about it! :)
Jessica Putnam-Phillips So I can put a wire in before I fire it? I considered that, but I was afraid it would cause damage in the shrinkage. I’ll look into all of those options. Thank you.

I have a question for ya, I can't seem to find anyone to give me an answer. Can I use cone 5 clay bisque it and then use cone 05 glaze and fire. will it work. or do both clay and glaze have to be the same. By the way the evening I will be subscribing to clayshare, I love your channel and can not wait to take some of your classes. thanks in advance for your help. :)

they do make starch based packing peanuts - they biodegrade over time, and if you get tehm wet, you can watch them melt.
