"if you have like super long lanky arms where blood flow never reaches your hands and so they are always frozen" I know that feel bro
+Wyle86 same here. I've looked into adding heating elements to my steering wheel. But, I haven't found anything decent. I don't want to replace the wheel with an aftermarket one because I like all of the controls.
+Peter Schmidt I would think something like heat tape used for keeping pipes from freezing would work pretty well.
mexicanhalloween
Hmm, I might look into that. Thanks for the info.
LOL yeah my body was designed for desert life.
Lift some weights. That's the problem he has.
4 words to look forward to in life : hello everyone and welcome
I really enjoy watching your reviews. I find that you do a great job of giving the information and not talking too much about your specific opinion on everything but rather just how the car is. One of my favorite channels on YT by a long shot.
The blood flow through the arms. You sir are a professional.
You didn't talk about ride comfort. Why do all Auto journalists only care about performance? It's like they get in a Lincoln Navigator and say "it doesn't grip the corners when you are canyon driving so don't buy it". I just want a highway cruiser and it's hard to find good reviews anywhere.
Well sir, just about ANY monstrous V-8 vehicle can deliver that. It truly has been done for like what 80 years? What has not been done for 80 years is 200 HP outta 4 cylinders so I would say PERFORMANCE leads the pack by a Far Cry. Had loads of ride comfort vehicles in my day, so Performance in a small package rates highly in my book.
Great vid, as always. How would you compare the 8 speed transmission in the rwd models vs the 6 speed in the AWD? Specifically shifting times?
THANK GOD! When I hear people call the 3is one of the ugliest cars ever and I think its one of the greatest and different looking cars ever
No I actually hate those people who hate on my Lexus IS spindle grille ... To be honest with you at least the car doesn't have Boring designs like a average German sedan.
It's funny because all the German car fanboys don't hate on Audi for putting a spindle grille on their S/RS cars yet they always hate Lexus for the spindle grilles. Such German hypocrisy.
@@usernamealreadytaken770 Yeah, I also really hate the BMW kidney/chipmunk tooth grills.
We just acquired three weeks ago the 2016 F Sport NX 200TSUV that have that engine. It feels good!! The first Toyota with small engine Turbo 235 HP 258 pounds torque. Great vehicle in their class. We saw the Volvo Cross Country, road tested the Audi Q3 and the NX, and my wife opted for the F Sport ( its for her use). Have a lot of little details and features for a pleasant drive. Thanks for this video
Front license plate is strictly prohibited on a F-sport Lexus grill.
yeh, please tell that to most "authorities" in the world.....while they either heavily fine you or just purely take your car away.
thepro08 we don’t have to have a front license plate in my state
@@PB0Y1834 the world is not your state... trust me on that
thepro08 yea I don’t get a ticket for not having a front plate and you do, so that sucks
@@thepro08 LMAO. I've driven my car with out a Front License Plate since the dawn of time. If you don't look like a ricer cops really don't give a sh*t. Oh and i live in Commiefornia where it's illegal to do anything at ALL TIMES.
OOMG!!!! 've been waiting for this car review!!!
"Faster" yet still gets crushed by the 328i, A4 and C300. Actually, those three cars pretty much match the IS350.
But, I'm glad you don't sit there and incessantly compare cars to their competition. That is seriously annoying when reviewers like Redline Reviews and Fast Lane Car compare every feature and measurement to the competition throughout the review. I'm glad you strictly discuss the car you're reviewing and you do so intelligently.
This is the first time Toyota has implemented forced induction to their luxury sedans. The performance has been improving tremendously over the years and I can guarantee over the course of this model's life, it'll crush its competition.
Ivan Koshy Well, sorry to say, but I just don't see it. They've been around plenty long enough to build engines that can beat their competition, but for some reason, they just can't do it. And performance "improving tremendously"? That's just not a fact.
senorgato70 Don't forget, this is still the most reliable brand in the industry. That still holds more important than the niche market of car enthusiasts wanting a lightweight RWD 300+ hp. The German competitors can always slap on extra boost at the cost of reliability because nobody expects much for the longevity. With the new CEO at Toyota, however, they're making their way to creating more agile vehicles. That and Toyota is also adopting the hybrid system and using turbos. Also it's not a stretch to say the company has some of the finest, well-built engines in the industry. It's all a matter of configuration and set-up at this point.
Ivan Koshy Right, not really. Their engines continue to underperform. End of story. And the reliability argument is an absolute farce. Without the overpriced Avalon, aka ES, and without the overpriced RAV4, aka NX, Lexus wouldn't be much more than Acura in terms of sales. Yes, their RX is a juggernaut but it also starts at least $10k less than a GLE or X5. But, in direct comparison, the IS doesn't even comes close to the 3 or C. The GS isn't close to the E and 5. The LS is nowhere near the S and still behind the 7. And the GX doesn't come within spitting distance of the GLE or X5. So, despite the Germans' supposed lack of reliability, they absolutely trounce Lexus.
That's my point though. They underpowered their engines to reduce stress on the cylinders. Comparing the IS 250 from last year to this years IS200t it got a nearly 40 increase in horsepower and reduced its weight. That's a dramatic performance upgrade. If you remember last year, Motor Trend raced the M4 and the RC-F. The M4 being a dual clutch with forced induction, greater torque, less weight, lower suspension and 10k more in cost did just .3 seconds faster on Laguna Seca. Now in comparison the RCF sounds better with it's NA V8, is more reliable and will hold its value much better. You tell me which is the better product. As for the rest of its vehicle lineup, Lexus has branched off to become more performance oriented. It started with the ISF, now we have the RCF, GSF, LC 500 and more to come. Along with the knowledge they've gained on creating the LFA with their newfound use of turbos and batteries, the future is bright for this brand.
Hey, thanks for the great content! The 2018 model of the is300 rwd f-sport offers an LSD. Will that make a big difference in handling and snow driving over the stock rear diff?
I went for the 200t over the is350 because of the insurance costs. This is something people dont consider when buying a car, but it was at least x2 the price to insure an is350 compared to an is 200t for me.
You are so right. It depends in which country you life. Insurance and taxes costs can be so much more for the bigger machine. Its also an big factor.
I love how the heated steering wheel is a "feature to avoid". When I bought my IS350F, I was thinking that was a waste of an option also. Now, I am rocking my heated steering wheel for my dainty hands when my hands are the slightest bit chilled. I too have lanky arms and in Buffalo NY, our winters are long. Soooo nice. Great vids!
clickbait... there is nothing ugly about this car. wtf
LOL, wait til your boost regulator goes bad and Lexus says its normal. Bunch of Jackasses, I had to tell them the problem AND give them the part# to fix it. The Factory dispatched 2 engineers to come check it and SURE ENOUGH the boost regulator WAS bad. Delayed getting my car back for a week. If that aint ugly I don't know what is.
Anon Imous Sounds like you got a shitty Lexus dealer. Had something similar go bad in mine and they fixed it without hesitation
@@xCkillaxC yea you can thank all of us that pioneered the way for you. You are Welcome.
Has anyone turbo failed for this vehicle yet?
@@anonimous2451 Chill bro, I work on Mercedes-Benz, some clients won't see their cars for months 😂 Sadly I'm not joking, as much as we'd love to tell them a cheaper option is to sell or go to an independent for a cheaper bill, they still want the dealer to fix and sometimes parts from Germany take 2 weeks up to "No ETA available" 💀
I work at Lexus and drive these cars every day. Let me tell you this. The car drives very smooth and is a great daily driver. It's a great car to hang out in and the features it has are pretty cool. Other than that, it's not the best looking car and it's really slow. But I must say the price for that car is spot on.
Not the best looking car? That's only one opinion...
Slow? 6.5 seconds to 60 seems absolutely respectable to me - even 8 years later.
I'm going from a 2010 IS250 to a newer IS model. This was helpful, thanks! Going with a 350 or 300.
always the dopest reviews
Great. Now I will wait for a preowned version :)
Love your vids mate ;)
For a country like where I live, the different also on the road tax. For 2.0l it cost roughly USD100++ compare to 3.5l that would cost USD1.1K++
Excellent video full of information. Thank you!
This is a very affordable luxury car considering car prices right now!
great coverage on this vehicle
I tried building an IS350 the same as my 200t F sport and its a big difference in price so I have no idea what you are talking about. You also must baby that IS200t because regardless of how I drive I average in the 19 - 20 mpg range. I also have the found a way to really help with the lag of the dbw and turbo with a throttle booster and f sport filter. The car is amazing in manual mode with the traction control ON. I would be fish tailing too much otherwise. I also can get the car to drift/kick out in corner turns too easy sometimes but I blame the tires being used. Never had a car with great stock tires so why would this car be any different. The sound system could be better for the level of car. The only reason it sounds good is the number of speakers it has and the sizes used. No matter the perceived flaws or draw backs it is the best car I have ever owned and its a blast to drive. I get all this with the Lexus quality and level of customer service that goes with it. Subaru cant compete with that.
Great review thanks ma man ... I really loved the new IS and test drove the IS250H which is the only one we get here in Finland. I was quite impressed with the E-CVT and did not feel that it was boring or annoying at al. The only thing that stopped me from buying the car was the tiny cabin size ! I mean, I am quite average height at around 176cm and I found the cabin so cramped sitting there that I felt like a giant. The center console has a very weird outward design that kept hitting my right knee and annoyed the hell out of me, would love to know your views on that and if you found the same issues I did. There is ONE IS200T which is imported and it is tempting me now to go and check it out and maybe give it another chance. Earlier I ended up getting a 2013 Seat Leon FR (1.8TSI 7DSG 180hp) and the last year has been a joy to drive but now it's time for a change
Hey wanted to get your take on something hopefully you can reply! Would you blame me if i picked the 16' maxima over the 16' Subaru STI? I know you have driven both wanted to see if you can help me decide thanks
0:53 why is the car reving like that?
No mention of the 200t only being avaliable in RWD. You have to step up to the IS300 to get AWD. Will you do the 2016 Q50?
The f-sport seats are very very nice. It's not all about engine.
This is an absolutely great review
Would you be able to do a comparison of this lexus and the new subaru wrx? im kinda stuck between the two
i like the side of the IS series. the rims really go well with the sidelines of the car
Do you use A or C weighing when measuring decibels?
I definitely agree with the heated steering wheel part. I think it's a small but great feature & once you've experienced it, it's hard to go back.
hi, could you make a video where you speak about the difference between one spark plug system and the other one with two spark plugs, please?
what type of device do use to measure noise in decibel? Also, it's good to see reviews about cars which most of us being average citizens can afford. Reviews about expensive sports cars are nice but not attactive because most of us can never afford spending over 50k on a car. Thanks
What GoPro window mount do you use?
Nice review!
Notice through out the video that the engine cant seem to figure out if it wants the torque converter to be locked or unlocked when he's cruising in auto OR if the transmission is just shifting back and forth between gears over and over. Kinda sketch for a Lexus that costs that much money.
Great video!
As an owner of a 2011 is350 I gained some useful insights in this vid. Thanks for the upload.
+Mohamed Odeh hows it treating you?
John sierra It's a great car, very nice and smooth.
John sierra however as said in this vid paddle shifts have a bit of lag. Also fuel economy not as good as I hoped. Overall enjoyable feel though.
The IS200t is the only model offered with RWD which is one very good reason people might choose the base. Also the RWD model also is the only model offered with the better shifting 8 speed automatic. If the IS200T ran to 60 in the high 5 second/low 6 second range it would be my choice.
Great video 😎
hi..
do u believe normal is350 is better than IS200T sport?
Great review as usual! Would have liked to know the specs on the is350 given you said it's the better buy over the is200 fsport. Love your vids, Cheers!
Really interested in the in the IS350 F Sport!! Saw one all black and slammed and fell in love!!!
I too am in love with the 350 F. take a look at the grey with red leather. SEXY!
Yeah I have this car for more than 8 years now. No major issues at all. Just do your normal maintenance and is rock solid. One minor issue the windshield washer had a leak so refill was gone fast, but Lexus dealer fixed it for free.
Vented seats are another cant live without luxury once yountry it. Also roundview monitors are soo handy. Al nissan 0 gravity seats are amazing(like favoritenlivingroom chair comfy)
I heard if you have a lexus and you dont have mark levinson audio then your stereo is made by pioneer. This explains why they still sound pretty good.
I'm buying a 2017 IS200t today! So stoked! It's gray with the red leather interior. I never really loved the front end of the 2014-16 models, but I love the improvements Lexus made for 2017 such as the new front end, the larger 10 inch display which looks amazing as well as more stitching & better looking buttons on the steering wheel. It's replacing my 2015 Toyota Camry XSE V6 & should be a huge improvement overall. I've been seeing used ones for very attractive prices lately probably cause sedans aren't in very high demand right now as most everyone's buying SUV's & I don't need one since I don't put much stuff in my car.
SUVs sucks.
where did you get those weight comparison numbers?
Great video
Regarding 4:51 - When I tested an IS 300 F Sport, I thought the gear changes were fairly quick (certainly faster than my Camry lol). Maybe it's the 8-speed transmission?
Also, just watching the video you can tell a huge difference between the sport mode shifts (a few seconds later) compared to the normal mode shifts, something that also is true in the lowly Camry that I own as well as the IS (when testing it, I pretty much kept it in Sport).
whats going on with the tach ? 0:54 , 1:57 and whats wrong with your steering input ? 4:46 ?
EE you should place an onboard gyroscope sensor with live visial readout and data logging to compare how well/horrible review cars actually bodyroll through corners. would be cool if you can stitch that into the video in a corner somewhere to see it in real time.
I will give you a good reason why you would go for the 200T vs the 350. The 350 is not sold on numerous market. He's absent from France, not available in Germany, and not in Switzerland too. Some peoples are importing those cars from abroad, shipped through the ocean.
The 200t stays the only car available on numerous markets. Recently, the ISF was also cancelled.
An other reason is that a lot of countries are starting to have very tight regulations about emissions. I'm in one of those. We are paying, every year, a tax. We call that our "plate tax". It allows us the right to keep our plates on and drive on the street. Those plate taxes are calculated on the kw/h of the car and his weight. The more you have of any, and the more you will pay. The difference between the 350 and the 200t makes around 300 us dollars a year. So, in the 5-9 years you will use your car, the 200t will be considerably cheaper in those costs than the 350.
Perhaps it was just me, but it seemed like there was a lot of minute corrections in the steering wheel when you were on the highway near the end? Seemed a bit odd to me, reminded me of driving the 3 ton cube van at my job haha.
I'm pretty sure you can add heating to any steering wheel if you really want to. Just buy used wheel, add heating wires, and reupholster it over the wires.
Nicely done video. Have you or will you review the 350 base or F model?
200T F, for people that do not want the more powerful base car.
I'd love to see a video explaining why an 8 or 9 speed is better than a 6. Or advantages/disadvatanges? SO many gears in these new cars...
2.0 turbo rwd, there's a good reason they still sell and it's directly related to performance. Modifying a turbo car to go faster is way easier than buying a v6 with no turbo platform. 300hpv6 will be so easy to beat with a tune on the 2.0...eazzzyyy!
True
about to tune my 16 200t this year 🙏 hopefully it's a noticeable difference
@@HonestAbe how did it go bro I might buy a 2016 200t
@@HonestAbehowd it go
So.... recently ive been considering purchasing a preowned 2016 IS 200t. I currently drive a 2008 328i BMW. In your opinion do you think I should switch to a newer 328i or make the switch? Thanks!
Personal preference.
The power figures transmission and a lot of stuff come close or are nearly exact as the BMW F30 328i
The tires only last 15k because of how the front turning system is set up. Youll notice the inside tread wears out faster on these cars after about 18-25k
so true i have one. never knew why, the turning radius is tight as hell though so its worth it.
8:04 is this highway in between Multnomah Falls and PDX?
Why don't you like engine covers? Also, do they serve any purpose other than looks? Some sound deadening maybe?
Fuel economy difference between the is200t and the is350?
I love the grill but I know a lot of people hate it, it's got the Predator face which gives it a sort of futuristic feel. Thanks for the review, I'm deciding between this and a 350 but I think a car this size needs a V6.
There is a replacement for displacement my friend. It's called a turbski. 😂
LOL, in Europe you just can get a 200t and the 300h . There is no V6 option :-/
You must be a moron to like such ugly cars.
@@salishaho3194 No, you just have poor taste in cars. Don’t blame people for your own failures.
I recently had one of these for the day as a loaner while my 2007 IS350 was getting recall work done by the dealer. The first thing I noticed compared to my previous IS250 loaners was the much better brake feel. Can't stand factory turbo setups. I always seem to get lag when I least want it. Love the tech features but I'll stick with my old 350.
Guy with super long an lanky arms where blood flow never reaches my hands and so they are always frozen, I do approve the heated steering wheel
Do you still miss the heated steering wheel?
THX for the info.
Turbo charged vs naturally aspirated please explain which is less problematic thanks?
Does this car come with a manual gearbox?
Can you please review the Lexus gs450 fsport?
will you do the GS-F next time?
Maybe it is easier to make it faster than is350? Stock turbo cars are usually easy to just chip the ecu like 335. I can't imagine 400 hp q60 twinturbo
Great Review man!! As always. Keep doing like this.
Can you please review the Lexus is300h please..
Can anyone with the 250 or 350 let me know.. do the tires have to be change every 15k if you get a higher quality tire?
i have a 2007 is350 and no my tires (all season tires) last a while and i have a heavy foot on the road. i heard the 3rd generation IS does have a problem with eating tires but I'm not too sure
The stock tires they put on the Lexus IS200t easily wore off but it also depends on how aggressive you drive.
Mine last 40k because I dont do hard cornering and braking since that eats alot of threads.
Btw you can get better tires if its time to replace yours
i feel like the only reason the car does 0-60 in 7 seconds is because you get a 1 second delay before the car even goes, without that it would be on par with the competition perfectly
That heated steering wheel bit is so true. lol
LOL the rant about the heating steering wheel though
Toward the end I noticed a speed 65 sign. When'd Oregon finally get around to raising that?
It just happened if I remember correctly. When I was there I think it was still 60 MPH max. However, after spending like an hour one night nerding up speed limit sign historicals, I remember seeing that they finally raised it. I believe it's only in certain parts, and even still, people are not happy about it.
Also, Texas has an 80 MPH sign now.
And to further nerd it up, I was on a road trip in Key West and they had "night time" speed signs under the "day" signs.
What does the f sport have that the base model doesn't?
sorry for random comment but you and @athlean-x look so much alike.. are you and him same family? older brother or something?
does a turbo add fuel economy?
Please test and review the Fiesta ST !!
This engine has VVT-iW doesn't it? Might explain the weird 2 stage turbo.
Wonderful cars. My friend has the IS-F. They need to bring it back, even if it's a limited run.
