Lisa, thank you for teaching us how to ripen hachiya persimmons. It's been the one that I just couldn't understand. I'll try your ripening method. Happy New Year 🎉
Persimmon is my favorite fruit, not only because of its delicious taste n velvety texture, but also because of the color n shape of the fruit. In Chinese paintings,it appears as a fruit that symbolizes prosperity n abundance. Persimmon Christmas pudding is a treat !
They're honestly like really sweet when soft my grandma used to give me persimmons when I was little but I personally didn't really like them but she loves them @@stephanieann6622
In case anyone was wondering why keeping the Persimmon with apple causes it to ripe, it's cos the apple produces a gas called ethylene, an important compound to induce ripening, now that I think about it, should also work with bananas or melons(unfortunately I don't recall the exact reaction😅)
I've tried some of these varieties from the grocery store, but my favorites are still the American persimmons that grow in my area! They are much smaller, but very delicious, and sweeter than any other variety I've tried.
@@anamazing2297American persimmons actually are a lot sweeter. Never actually tried them but the nutrition facts show a much higher calorie and sugar content/100g and less water
Oh, we regularly have this first variety in all of the stores in winter, they are ripe, juicy, so, so soft, like a soufflé, literally one of the best fruits.
We just tried persimmons for the first time! I bought a flat of slightly under-ripe hachiya persimmons and dehydrated them in our dehydrator, and they were all eaten in a day.
I've never really been a fan of the firm version's texture but my family recently bought the ones that have to soften and I can't wait to try them once they're ripe!
I think hachiyas are all I've ever had. When I was little my babysitter had a persimmon tree and eating them warm from the sun and so soft they nearly fell apart was amazing, but she said not to eat them unless they were super soft. I never knew there were varieties that could be eaten while still hard!
@CrucialOlive No way! I STILL haven't tried them 😩 I live in Alaska and we are hard pressed for fresh fruits and vegetables. I am always on the lookout though. I am determined! 😄
Have mine hanging and drying in the sun. I think they are the best this way! This is my 3rd yr drying them like this. Takes over a month or 2 to be ready. Well at least the way I prefer them. I also prefer them very ripen. Best
They look yummy. You tore it open in the beginning of the video. Whew 😅. Before I knew what they were, I saw it and thought it was a strain of tomato, I put some in my Peruvian Fish soup, it was sooooo good. Made it twice without even knowing 😂
My grandma had a tree in her backyard with one of the last two varieties, I genuinely can’t remember, but she had to have it taken out a handful of years ago bc the roots were starting to crack her pool or something. She was really sad to see that tree go, she would make so much persimmon bread
I just discovered persimmons and they are so delicious! I've only tried fuyu cause I'm scared to try the others lol. My friend had a terrible experience with an unripe persimmon.
I haven had one n over 20 yes. Last time i had one i was like 8. They r so good as well as a really ripe plum, so juicy that the juice runs down ur mouth. I miss real fruit. Like a white peach. They are the best peaches in my opinion
My local store usually the flat ones when they are in season so I haven't tried this trick with otjer variety.. the flat ones are nice eaten when it is still firm but if you prefer the soft texture, keep the fruits in the freezer overnight, leave it out to thaw a bit then you'll be pleasantly surprised that the flesh has gone really soft it's like eating sweet pudding
You can soak them in regular water for 3-4 days to remove the astringent. Change the water daily and. That way, you didn’t have to wait until it’s mushy.
How well could persimmon kinds work if used like the different tomato, tomatillo or tamarillo kinds among akin fruits, such as a persimmon sauces or sliced persimmon in sweet or savory ways like in a sandwich?
Persimmons are one of my mons favorite fruits! Funny story: when I was young I thought we were mixed Asian, just always had a gut feeling. Years later I told her to take a DNA test... 30% South Asian 😂
Which varieties are used for dried persimmons? I saw in videos one has to dry them firm and not completely ripened, but noone tells if at that stage they are already non-astringent or they become "good" only after dehydration
Idk if I just had a bad one but the first time I tried persimmons was a year ago? We bought it from the Mark on for new years eve and idk it was so mushy that the texture just threw me off and I didn't even want to eat it anymore
I’ve tried letting them get really soft but it still feels really astringent in my mouth. Any tips? I have one I let get really soft in the freezer right now so I can thaw it and hopefully it’s even softer. I want to love them so bad
Mildly sweet, a little fruity. Some of them have an almost floral taste. They're not super strongly flavoured - what is there is pleasant, to be sure, but I don't know if these would be cultivated if they didn't also have a unique texture. That being said, persimmons are still one of my favourite fruits! Would definitely recommend you try them. Do note that there is no such thing as an over-ripe persimmon. The riper it is, the better it gets.
at 45'ish seconds.. there is that brown spot inside the persimmon - it kinda looks like a seed but it isn't. what is it and can you eat it? I get them and cut it out, but it occurred to me that maybe it's harmless ? anyone know?
Persimmon (rare and smal) in my country is green to yellow (ripe). Not ripe is like apple texture is sweet and sour. Ripe is over sweet and like mashmallow texture. 😊
@@phillippinter7518 ikr :( I guess that’s her preference, but that’s just sad since the skin tastes as good and is also packed with nutrients that are all going to the trash
These look like "Trabzon Hurması" (Trabzon Dates) that comes from the black sea region of turkey, specifically from Trabzon. I wonder if they are similar or the same.

We store them in wooden boxes next to kiwi and we give in each box 3 apple, also in kiwi boxes. Apples helping that kiwi and kaki soften. I love this two fruit becouse they don't need special care, only in spring you must cut branches and that is all. No chemicals needed for cultivating those two.

put a banana in there
What a coincidence! I was eating one and opening YT at the same time. Lo and behold! A persimmon short! Looooove persimmons!
Dried persimmons are my fav! I like the concentrated aroma and the texture💛
Do you know how to make them?
In Brazil we eat them with the peel and everything 😋
Soft varieties win my heart!
We have 3 hachiya persimmon trees in our garden, it's pretty common in Northern Italy and they're just incredible ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yummmm thank you so much for letting us know this! ❤🧡

Local fruits are often the best! I believe eating local products can even reduce seasonal allergies, etc., though that might just be honey.

You look so good eating that persimmon. You look happy. I love persimmons too.

Extraordinary sweet fruit 😍

I like fuyu persimmons, crisp, peeled and added to a salad with feta or blue cheese, and sliced almonds or pumpkin seeds 😋
They are so expensive where I am in Ontario Canada and only at Christmas. One store was $5.88 each. But - they delicious when I could afford them. 😢
