I’m next pre I hate being out kicked I’ve won I always want to lead I’m already putting my runs in I’m not great at other sports I was always sub or benched so I got mad and tried track and xc once I won I knew I want to prove people wrong and it seems no one remembers what pre has taught us and I will bring the same

Then you missed a wonderful era. There were more stylish runners. Can't remember their names. Faster runners. Can't remember their names. Won tons of medals. Can't remember their names. But I have never forgotten Steve Prefontaine. Legend.

Honestly same as a 5'4/5'5 120 pound guy use to be even smaller when I started running it was something I could go out there and beat anyone at tall or short.
Ben Marathon well done it’s not easy to give something another shot that’s so mentally difficult. It takes a lot of will to get back into running after you haven’t been running for a while. So well done my friend.

The GOAT of American distance running I know if he was alive he would have gotten his revenge on Viren in 1976.And set his world record of 12:36 5000 meters and it would still be a record today.
Forget all this BS he is not the greatest he was overhyped and in the end was not good internationally.
As much as I love Pre; there's no way he was ever going to run a 12:35 5k! Bekele ran a 12:38 in 2004 I believe and that record stood until 2020. His PR was 13:23 in the 5k at the time of his death at 24.. Shaving off that much time was extremely unlikely! Maybe he could have broke 13:00 at the very best.

@@AnthonyMcqueen1987 pre’s goal if I remember correctly was “sub 13/American Record” in the three mile which was 12 laps. While the 5k is 12 and a half laps. Yet possible that sub 13/WR In the 5k was also in him. I’m not remembering exactly what his goals were but something along that line I know for sure I can say the least.

Pre really had the drive in him to set the world record at 12:36 5K. He died at 24 years old and he was running Olympic times at 21. Your best running years are 28-34 years old. Your body grows and you’re able to get faster. Prefontaine would have easily ran 12:36. The guy was desperate about setting records and that’s all he ever did too. Too bad he died at a very young baby age. He was 24 and no where near his fucking prime. It was a huge tragedy because we lost so much greatness. His potential was like no other.
For a man whose best 1500m time was when he finished 11th and his best mile time was eclipsed by an Aussie in 1958 he has to be the most over-talked-about and overrated runner in history. Saying what he might have done is pointless and had he not died he would have had to contend with Seb Coe and Steve Ovett both of whom set 8 and 6 world records respectively something which he never came close to achieving.
Held every American record from 2000 to 10000 for a decade. Yeah overtalked about. Idiot
