This should remind us that everyone was young once and that some age with grace.

I was at Alberta Hunter's birthday party for her 8?th birthday at the Cookery; Eubie Blake was there as her guest of honor. I will never forget that he ordered a steak and smoked all night! On one of her album jackets she talks about Eubie Blake, quoting him as having answered the question put to him by a reporter, "To what do you attribute your advanced age?" to which he responded, "I really don't know, but I will tell you this; if I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken much better care of myself!"

Alberta Hunter was a sweetheart, tremendous voice and heart to go along with it. Her and Eubie are two treasures that can never be replicated.

Wow. Eubie Blake in his late 90s still had a genuine spark and a graceful feel for the beautiful music he played and often composed. And hats off to Alberta for her touching reading.

I had the distinct pleasure to see both of these wonderful artists live before they passed on to that big stage in the sky. :) Memories of both of them.

This is a treasure! I love this song and I enjoyed watching his face as Ms. Hunter recited the lyrics.

Thanks for watching and your observation. Fortunately I bought one of the first video tape machines on the market, a Beta video tape recorder, and I recorded all the jazz and Ragtime I could find on TV.

I remember, back in the 1970's, Eubie Blake and Alberta Hunter became rather well known TV celebs. Sort of a "second chapter" to their carreers.

What a lovely posting! That famous comment was made on an ITV documentary series screened in the late 60's / early 70's, called "All You Need Is Love", which traced the development of popular music from blues to, well, the late 60's or early 70's. I remember watching it with fascination. Wonder if it's available on archive?
