Glad to see your son again. Don’t you just love when they help you with a project? Always makes my heart happy. He looks like he was very thorough and meticulous. Great job! I liked this raised bed. Looks high quality and has a nice finished look. Thank you for the review and info about the seed company. Will definitely check them out. God bless.👩🌾💙🙏
I bought one of these 2 years ago! Love mine! I kept looking at the Birdies and decided on Vego. I did buy a couple round Birdies beds last year. No complaints on either. Using my Vego for garlic, onions and peppers. My Birdies for strawberries and maybe some asparagus next year. Love both of them!
I bought the 9 in 1 and really like it. The box arrived with one corner crushed but I was able to bend the corner back into shape and put it together, by myself, in about 2 hours. Put it on a bed of 4 layers of cardboard and filled it half way with as much sticks, logs and pine cones as I could scavenge.
Glad you're expanding your raised bed garden area. (I love that you ignored the instructions which say to assemble the sides and then attach them to the curved ends 😏 Guess it doesn't matter!) I really like the Vego beds, I have 2 round 17" tall beds and one 9-in-one 17" tall bed. The height is great, and they really look good. Especially with the greens, herbs and flowers growing in them! Enjoy yours, sir!

Hi, Scott! I like to add a new raised bed to my garden each year, but my source of free wood dried up last year, so I have been looking at alternatives, including the Vego system. I ordered a Greenstalk planter for my patio last week and after watching your video and visiting the Vego site again, I went ahead and ordered one. I plan to do much as you did, hugelkultur with old logs and henhouse litter. In zone 6A, I'll be a few months behind you.
Per usual I enjoy your content. Please erase little bit of commission from your vocab. Support your channel sounds good. Nice product review. It didn't sound like an ad and I'm glad to know there's a US based competitor to the popular (prolly predecessor) brand. Thanks for sharing
This is an exceptional video! Thanks for putting forth all the energy and effort into this project and then sharing it! I’m about to purchase my beds. My only hang up is the color. Most likely the grey!
I bought nine pieces this year and four of a galvanized type still getting wood and soil in them. Easy to put together, I made one mistake on the largest one where my rods wouldn’t fit across. I chose pearl white for all of mine. Luckily I have a ton of wood. I only question my placement dodging trees and trying to get enough sun we will see.
I received my Vego 17" 9 in 1 raised bed yesterday via UPS. When it's fully built, it'll be 3.5" x 6.5". It cost me $196. That's with a $15 discount, and paying $11 in taxes. Free S&H.
Nice presentation. It looks really sturdy. Hugelkultur is s the way to go! It's like a life insurance policy for the future of the plants. Can it be reversed to show the white side?
@@ScottHead So far, from what I've seen on videos, the only clear difference that favors the Vego raised beds over the Birdies, is the protective edging on top of the raised bed, which seems to be more durable. Birdie beds don't seem to have a clear advantage, imo.
I was just looking at the cost of 2X10X8 pressure treated which goes for $17 each and I want to built two boxes stacked on each other. I just did that with some existing beds and I like the height. So that comes to $102 not including the screws so I've been looking at this product. I'm wondering if it is coated and will it rust out quickly.
The real question is - how long do they last? The wooden bed lasts about 4-5 years until it rots. The cost to build the wooden bed is about $50-60 for 10ft*5ft*12in. Vego's 8ft bed costs $199. That is approximately 12-15 years of wooden beds. Will Vego last 12-15 years at minimum?
You Tuber Self Sufficient Me did a full review inside and out of his 12 year old Birdie and the quality is outstanding. Birdie has been around for 13 years.
Are they made in the USA? I have a number of Birdies beds, but have been eyeing Vego even those they cost a lot more. And with the Birdies dealer giving free shipping. However, I don't mine paying a little more for products made in the USA if they last 20+ years.
Do you know if you can do two 17 inch kits to make a 32 inch height kit? I want to use these potentially, but it would be easier if I can buy the kits 1 at a time and slowly add on to them. Specifically if I can make them taller over time. Is the 32 inch kit made of 32 in high panels or two 17 inch kits with the top layers over lapping and screwed together?
I want to build 6 4x9.5 beds and 4 4x6 beds. But have to figure out what kits to get. I wonder if they sell panels individually. That would help a lot.
@@ScottHeadThese garden beds are made in China and distributed by Vego Garden. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed watching it, but no thanks on more cheap Chinese products.

Hi, Scott! I've got a question~~I'll be in Alamagordo, NM (Zone 8) and I'm concerned that the desert conditions may make the metal too hot and burn the plant's roots? Would I be better with a stone or even an adobe~type of bed? More work, but it would look pretty! I think it would keep the plants happier~~cooler in summer, warmer for cold months. I don't think it would be a big problem, especially if you had a light colored raised bed or painted it white. Stone would be ideal though, but as you say, more work.

Thanks so much for this video, I was looking for a review before buying one. Did you use fresh shavings from the coop or aged ones?
They were pretty aged shavings but I don't think it would matter if you put them deep in the bed.
I’ve got Birdies and they are great. These look very similar and I may try them.
The Vego Garden bed has a slight advantage over the Birdies (I have both). They are a little better, but more expensive too.

Hello, thanks for the video. If i don’t have wood for the bottom, is there anything else I can use?
It would take a while to fill up, but leaves and grass clippings would work.
Pine cones, pine needles, hay, wood chips, kitchen scraps.
I’m sold!
How do these do with keeping little varmints from working their way up through?
They offer no varmint protection at all, just an open bottom raised bed.
Do they bend easily? I like the look of them, but concerned that they might dent or bend easily if I accidentally fall over the edge.
The VegoGarden bed doesn't bend easily when you use the stiffening rods. Its a nice system.
Very nice! I really want one of these beds. Where do you get the larger logs like that to add to the bottom?
My son had some trees removed so we had them on hand. I've also scavenged logs from the neighborhood curbsides when people were removing trees.
