As a long-time classical violist and total mandolin newbie, I did a double take on what at first glance appeared to be a chinrest! 🤣I presume you also carry a chin-rest wrench for it? One thing I keep in my viola case that I want to include in my mandolin case is an old-fashioned miniature tuning fork. The other thing I carry are alcohol wipes to clean my hands before playing to protect the strings from any corrosion.
I bought a tone guard 2 years ago after watching one of your videos and I have to say that's the one thing I can't live without. Everyone compliments how my mandolin cuts through a jam and I attribute it to the tone guard. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hi David Covid permitting I'll be along to see you at The Green Note in London when you tour. Wr had a nice chat when you played at The Harrison in 2019. Cheers Barry
Take care when wiping strings with a cloth and then using the same cloth for the wood. Cloth can pick up tiny metal flecks off the strings and this will scratch the mandolin finish. I've done it.
Shoot the only thing I have in it is strings and a cloth. I need a case that has something like your storage compartment! Thank you for sharing. I’m still working on the same fiddle tune in 12 keys challenge!
Hey David, thanks for all the mandolin content and instruction you put out there for the mandolin community! I hear Ross Landing playing in the background. Great tune! Would love to see it show up on your channel sometime.
Yeah, like I mentioned here, I think those XT's are great too. Maybe it's a placebo, but I think the EXPs sounded a bit warmer and stayed in tune better over time. What do you think?
Yeah! Good catch! Was going to mention that too, but I don’t usually worry about humidifying too much down here in SC. And since we’re mostly touring in the SE States and over in the UK the humidity levels are always really high, but a humidifier would be a great addition to any mandolin case for sure! Thanks for watching!
One bulky item in my case is the pick guard. I don’t like playing with it but I don’t know what to do with it…it takes up some valuable space…what do you recommend oh mando case zen master?
That Darol Anger set list needs a video to itself one day!
Facts.
Yes! @DavidBenedictMandolin we need to know. Has this ever been posted?
My Gold Tone case leaves no space for anything .Im lucky the mandolin fits with the strap attached.

Love it!
I keep a small container of SortKwik fingertip moistener in my case. It helps hang on to my pick without clamping down. Another brand is Tacky Finger.

Would love that! See you soon!

Thanks for the tip! Like I mentioned in the video, I don't really use the cloth for polishing unless its clean

Yeah, helps to have a little storage space in the case. Happy picking!

You bet, Joe! Thanks for watching! Hope we can check out those tunes sometime soon!
Man, can you post a photo of that repertoire list?
That is a fun video cast. Thank you.
a good screenshot of that list
loved watching it
🙏🙏🙏
You should check the Mapes strings. They can build a custom set for you. George in Montana
Thanks for the tip!
You mentioned at some point in the video about a breakdown of your live setup, I'd love to see that in an upcoming vid...
Will do!
I totally feel your pain with the d'addario exp 0.115 strings man. I miss them :(
They were just rebranded to XT 11.5-40 right. They're coated like the EXP74CM same stuff.
Yeah, like I mentioned here, I think those XT's are great too. Maybe it's a placebo, but I think the EXPs sounded a bit warmer and stayed in tune better over time. What do you think?
#23 a picture of Finn !
Need one of those for sure!
Hey David, you didn't mention the violin humidifier although I saw it on the table... :-)
Yeah! Good catch! Was going to mention that too, but I don’t usually worry about humidifying too much down here in SC. @@DavidBenedictMandolin Haha UK and humidity...such a love affair :-)
You mentioned something about apps you use to help practice. Do you mind sharing those?
They make a newer model of those strings called XT same gauge new box
Yeah! I mentioned those here. It may be a placebo, but the EXPs feel a little different to me. You notice any difference?
One bulky item in my case is the pick guard. I don’t like playing with it but I don’t know what to do with it…it takes up some valuable space…what do you recommend oh mando case zen master?
I ditched my pick guard a while ago and never looked back!
Hi, did you mention Cup of Joe is playing in the UK this year? I can’t see any dates on their website. Cheers
Yes, stay tuned for more information soon!
I caught that too. They teased a "big announcement" and then put it off, but David spilled the beans ;-)
What was the brand of the mandolin strap?
Any suggestions on clip on mics?
Yeah! Hoping to do a live sound setup video soon!
Where did you get your string winder?
