The one nice thing about being up north in the snow. We can cruise our property and see how big of tracks we have. I can't get the critters to come in regular anyhow. I usually run a snowmobile track from an approach to the quarter or half mile line fence, so I can get out there. I also run the line fences, so the critters can get around. If you're ever bored you can come to my house in central MN and I'll put you up if you show me how the heli to improve my luck. We aren't allowed to use lights. I always check the wind and come from downwind or crosswind. I've gone so far as to shoot a rabbit at home to hang near my call. I have a Fox Pro fx3. I have had far higher success when I go to the Dakota's. I had an old Johnny Stewart cassette that called 3 predators towards the vehicle, with the front doors kicked open. Cassette player ate that tape last year. It was a sad day.
I disagree with the notion you need to sit longer for bobcat. 90% of the bobcat I’ve killed have coke within the first 10 minutes and I don’t think I’ve ever killed one past the 20 minutes mark. For myself get close to dense cover play bird and rabbit continually fluctuate volume up and down and be still. Cats are simple. If you know where they are get tight and go call.
I think you're on the right track. I've had cats show up a half hour into a set. But more often than not it's within 15 minutes . Same goes for lions. I compare it to throwing a dart at a map of your hunting area. If that dart lands within the hearing range of a cat, he'll come look, and the sound is much less important than being still and calling frequently.
