========= 1916 LYRICS ==========
Sixteen years old when I went to the war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Was a long enough life for a soldier,
We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history's pages,
And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers,
I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother and she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame,
And the day’s not half over and ten thousand slain,
And now there's nobody remembers our names
And that's how it is for a soldier.
========= Historic Fact ==========
Resulting in around 300,000 fatalities, the Battle of the Somme is considered one of the bloodiest and deadliest conflicts of the First World War and in human history. The battle, which was fought between British and French forces versus German forces, kicked off on July 1, 1916, and ended on November 18 that same year.
Hey, guys. Recently I asked Jon and dolly to react to Sabaton’s cover of 1916, originally done by Motörhead in the early 90’s. Now it’s your turn, Travis and Suzi. This is not your typical Sabaton song. It’s one of the more powerful pieces of music I’ve heard in the last couple of years. Let me know what you think. Rich m
One is laughing and one is crying. Usually I love Wolf Hunterz. But Travis; Get a grip!
Travis is a gearbox idiot. A real fcking loser
Lemmy was a remarkable man with a formidable intellect and depths that many didn't credit him with - and Sabaton did justice to this piece 🤘
As mentioned, this is a cover of a Motörhead song. The two guys standing in the door opening at 6:25 are Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell, the drummer and the guitarist of Motörhead. The picture is of Lemmy Kilmister, the bassist and singer of Motörhead, the guy holding the picture is Eddie Rocha who was the tour manager of Motörhead and the current one for Sabaton.
Or Micael Kiriakos Delaoglou .......so great of a drummer!!!!
Remember when he left and they took in snowy shaw......whe got his rehearsal studio after him and there where burn marks where hed had his double pedals........
If I remember correctly, Joakim said that after they wrote Primo Victoria, they felt that writing lyrics didn't feel like a necessary evil and so that's the song that got them into singing mostly about historical battles and heroes.
Yes, he also said that history holds so many great stories to tell, so why make up new ones about dragons, beer and women. 😊
Sabaton is a Swedish power metal band from Falun, which was formed in 1999. The band's songs are inspired by various historical wars. Even the band name is military inspired, as Sabaton is also the name of the part of the armor that covers the foot.
Everyone in the band loves history and that's why they make music from different historical events. Sanaton has 3 historians to help them find interesting war stories to make music from and to bring out more facts about events that fans around the world send as suggestions to Sabaton.
Then good for you to know is that Sabaton takes care of everything themselves and has 100 employees to help. Sabaton does not have a manager, but manages everything himself, such as booking hotels, booking arenas, managing the ticket sales themselves.
They handle sales of records, chains and souvenirs themselves and with the help of their employees. They have 12 trucks that transport all their instruments, the stage and everything else that goes with it and if I remember correctly also 4 buses to transport the employees. Thanks to the fact that Sabaton does not have an external agent who costs a lot of money, Sabaton can sell cheaper tickets than other artists who have managers who suck money. When Sabaton toured Sweden, a ticket only cost 57 dollars and they had some exclusive tickets, those who wanted to meet Sabaton died before the concert started and these tickets cost 69 dollars.
i feel like if he was listening to the lyrics travis wouldn't have been grinning the entire time??
That's his face, chill. It doesn't mean he doesn't take things seriously. Plus it's a song, not the end of the world. This song does make me sad and when they played it live last I saw them I teared up singing along. So get off your high horse.
Did you even watch the full reaction? He even said that it is very emotional
@@Wanjek89 yeah after he couldn't fail to hear the words about his friend falling to his knees coughing blood and screaming for his mother?? up until that point he was smiling away
It looks very stupid
I cant watch those , 2 , adult teenagers? Dishonur...first time see those 2 ... And last time .
Their reaction reminds me of a Jewish couple who use to react to Sabaton's songs. One day they reacted to "The Final Solution". They were jamming out, but once the singing started, the husband realized what the song was about and got sober REALLY quick. The wife kept smiling and rocking out right up to the part where Joakim says "Enter the gates, Auschwitz awaits..." and then it hit her that it was a song about the Holocaust.
This reminded me of it cause both were jamming until the singing started, then Suzi got somber while Travis kept smiling and rocking. Then the 3rd part hits and he got somber.
This also reminds me of a reaction video to Soldier of Heaven by a man and a woman and the man was a veteran and stopped smiling when the singing started because the lyrics hit him while the woman kept smiling
@@Iamthesun314 I know the video you are talking about. That was the 2nd Sabaton reaction video she'd done. The first was Christmas Truce, and she kept asking if it was a real thing or not. While Sabaton's songs are great to jam to and stuff, at the same time, they should also be treated with a level of respect as they are about actual events. And to treat the songs with ignorance (1st time is excusable, esp. if you don't know what the band sings about, but after knowing a band sings about history and then continue to show the same level of ignorance is just...) Oh, that also reminded me of an Indian couple who kept reacting to Sabaton songs even though they didn't like them and took that time to rip the song and style. They complained that the chorus of "The Price of a Mile" was too long and repetitive.
He smiles while the hole Video...stoned..🤔
Not sure, but to me it looks like Travis is either on drugs or totally drunk. Suze manages to get her reactions at least a little straight but Travis keeps his grinning face mask on till like almost the end. What did you guys do to that dude? Happened before during "Suicide" (no Travis, it's NOT a fun song). Really a downer for me - was a long time subscriber.
I think they may also do these kinds of songs because of someone like Milunka Savic. People need to know and remember these
heroes because of who and what they fought for.
this dude "talking about sabaton going low and focus on sabaton" hes so off his head so off hes either drunk or very high on drugs, his extremely overraged smile says it all and when he says "this got sad fast" didn't " the entire song is fucking sad
The cello part at the end was played by Tina Guo, who has played with Sabaton on a few different occasions :)
She also arranged the cello part.
🤓🇸🇪
They even have a Sabaton History site/chennel. So, they like history, and they set their stories to music. Really is simple as that. Keep in mind this one is a cover of a Motorhead song, and, well, the video will cover the subject matter more after the main song.
my answer to " why does Sabaton keep singing about war?"...my answer is because WAR is HELL and the people who live through it and the most difficult times of LIFE , are the most INTERESTING!!!
This is a tribute to Lemmy but it's a really good one also!
How high is he ?
We must never forget them and what they went through, men and women (Nurses and Doctors) from both sides who tried to repair the scars of war. 57,000 casualties in one day 19,000 killed it wasn't called the Great War for nothing. A lot of other Commonwealth country's also suffered in this campaign as well. Australia suffered 5,533 casualties at the battle of Fromelles in just 24 hours I'm sure that's why Sabaton has shown the Australian flag a few times in this video, they know their stuff these guys.
It's not something happening in WW1. It's reality of every war going on as we speak. One of you earn respect and one had a cheap necklace.
Every historical character in the video is a reference to other Sabaton songs.
beautiful
glad i got to meet both him Ronnie 11 times or so over 30 years
"The first rule of war is that young men die. The second is that nobody can change the first rule..." --Lt. Colonel Henry Blake 4077 MASH
is high as a house ?
Sabaton can hurt you, because some history lessons are supposed to hurt, and these guys can give a history lesson.
Thank you❤😢
I watched this live at their Leeds Concert back in April, the entire room was just so quiet as Joakim was on the stage by himself singing this.
Please sober up….
This song was about WWI, yet at the same time it was about every soldier in every war. Having famous military figures from history marching with them emphasizes this, as does the appearance of more modern soldiers and aircraft.
Such a powerful song. WWI was an absolute meatgrinder, with the "leaders" on both sides - none of which had to fight themselves - deciding that a war of attrition was the way to win. And all over nothing but politics. We think of "our" side, the winning side, as the "good guys", but there really weren't any in this war. Individually there were heroes, but as a whole both sides were prideful, greedy, corrupt, and short-sided. And it only got worse for the soldiers as time went on, with terrible weapons (ex: chemical warfare) being developed. And having old-school commanders who think charging the foe is glorious heroism and the way to win not understanding what a single machine gun can do to a massed group of soldiers certainly didn't help.
wow...❤
Its a Niche, theirs! they found and they are passionate about sharing and learning, of the belief that if we forget, we let it happen again. Lest we forget. From what I have read, it was Tommy's idea to do this cover and he was involved with the new take on it.
Do also the original sung by Lemmy to compare both songs...
I would even say that the correct order would actually be to listen to the original first
Metalbards!!💪👊
Nah. Now I unsubscribe.
If you want to make serious reaction videos, you can increase staying sober anyway.
Ren and Sabaton in the same day. You guys spoil me.❤
it didnt get real sad fast it got even more real as it went on, there were alot of underage soldiers who all died in ww1. its horrible but with out them some of the world wouldnt be the way it is now
I think its so interesting. You get the men who deal with the worst shit and entire battalions are cut down, but then you get men like Francis Pegahmagabow, Sir Adrian, and Alvin York
Grandgrandpa 72 here. The History of Mankind is History of War.
It doesn't matter which version or how many times i listen to it this songs hits me hard every single time!!!
300k dead for 6miles of land is 7.5inches a man, if you use the full casualties list for bith sides it drops to just over two inches
WTF is Travis smiling at and acting wierd, what has he been smoking
Great video and great reaction. You two are alright. Compare to Five Finger Death Punch, their video of Wrong Side Of Heaven. Or have you? I’ll check. Having my weekly vodka and green tea and I’m not responsible for anything I don’t remember.😊
his drunk or what
I think since Metallica one how big that song was Sabaton have made a choice and i think it's a great choice to sing not just about history but to give these soldiers a voice and to tell stories from both sides of a war.
hey Guyz, take some (or some more) lessons in History, before you take the next reaction to ANY Sabaton Video.
This was a cover of a Motörhead Video by Sabaton. But they do a lot of own Songs about War. and they know, what they sing....
Hey mate,
Just saw your reaction to that music video, and I gotta say, you nailed it! Your commentary was spot on, and you really captured the essence of the song. The way you broke it down and analyzed every little detail was wicked.
I gotta give props to the artist too, man. They really know how to bring the fire with their music. The beat was sick, and the lyrics hit you right in the gut. It's one of those tracks that gets you pumped up and ready to take on the world, ya know?
But let me tell ya, the visuals in that music video were off the charts! It was like a freakin' masterpiece. The way they played with colors and imagery, it was mind-blowing. It added a whole new layer of depth to the song, and I couldn't help but get sucked into the whole experience.
So, keep doing what you're doing, mate. Your reactions are pure gold, and it's clear you're passionate about music. Can't wait to see what you tackle next.
Just to put it into perspective, just over 160 men would have died in the duration of your Reaction. Truly a catastrophic loss of life.
He seems to be watching chat 95% of the time, so that smiling and nodding doesn't seem like a reaction on the video. Or do you have two screens?
I love her reaction though. Keep up the good work! 👍
The are very intressed om war
You should watch the original Motorhead version of this song .
😭
omg. hat man. is fool.....
What's the matter with your face, Travis?! 😵💫 Stoned..?
those who planned the Battle of the Somme should have been tried by a war trial because such a waste of human life is nothing short of a war crime
Tina Guo on cello...
is your boyfriend jusing mary on a = Mariujana {ghost) he is un another planet than you
Brah is on a good one here... I want what he's having
The dude is listening to the music and the girl is listening to the lyrics. Cheers both of you, great reactions.
Are you the mucians in the famaly and he just get along ?
why are you stupidly grinning at this song. it is an emotional sad song nothing to be laughed at
Might be out of line here but you both look like you had a serious scrap with 1 another
Usually I can get behind the reactions but nothing about this one felt genuine at all
Great song just far from my favorite reaction to it unfortunately
This dude has no idea what the fuck is going on does he?
This song is sad and was about a terrible battle. why was the reactor on the right acting like he was special ed with the head rocking and goofy smile? wtf?
Wtf is wrong with the guy ..
I am British and I had relatives that were in the British Army during WW1 and they fought from the trenches from 1916, I also had relatives that fought in WW2 in the British Army and the Royal Air Force ( RAF). I know about the PALS BATTALIONS were men and boys as young as 15 years old joined up the British Army in the PALS BATTALIONS were they came from factories, streets and even Football clubs who joined these Battalions together so they could fight together and serve there King and Country but most important of all, be together. Many PALS BATTALIONS were wiped out by German Machine guns, Artillery and Mortar bombs. At the battle of the Somme in one day over 56,000 British soldiers were killed, the biggest loss of life in one day, the biggest loss of life in British Military History. It is not a subject for smiles or laughter as the Battle of the Somme is still vivid today and is still remembered solemnly by us British in the UK. BRITISH SABATON FAN 💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🏴💙💛🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
you both insult history and everyone who died in wars, please never react to anything ever again
Yea this reaction ain't it chief.
Damn. This dude is so red-pinkish that he always seems like he’s about to cry or rage quit
Sabaton like ro tell about historical Wars ro remember
