We go down into the hole to explore “The Perfect Block” a little more in detail. As an alternative to the typical concrete foundation wall, there is a fair bit of information to understand. We get to see the installation getting started, and talk with Farley on the tips and tricks that he has already come to understand in a short time. We look at blocks in place with reinforcing also in place. We come to understand the mini production facility Farley and his guys have set up to work effectively and efficiently. I like the perfect block over traditional ICF mainly because of resistance to termites. Termites won't burrow through perfect blocks but termites love to burrow through the EPS of traditional ICF. The problem being you can't inspect for termite infestation with traditional ICF because the termites are hidden in the EPS. I love the instructions on how to assemble perfect blocks but you never covered the critical detail of the water barrier. I hope you will provide another video covering the installation of the water barrier.
They make great peel and sticks that are terminate resistance or you can put in a band board (cut out 2" of foam at grade) and IF there are termites, they would have to reveal themselves. Buildblock also makes something for it.. ICF is still a better all around product.
Another great video Steve! Two things I'd like to have seen. 1) Outside wall treatments (if any). Do you really backfill directly against the block? 2) Rebar caps! I get not running them at times. But at 3:45, if you'd stumbled and fallen backwards, you would have landed in a bunch of uncapped rebar. Workers sticking off-cuts in the ground is fairly typical, but they really should be capped for everyone's safety.
+1 on the caps...cheap protection from a life changing accident!
They could have just capped them with used plastic bottles
Great video Steve. I've never seen this version of an ICF wall. In your detail, it's interesting to see the perimeter drain pipe with the perforation up. I've been under the influence that putting the perforations down allows for a lower standing water height around the pipe without impeding flow through the pipe.

I would like to see more about the footing, And what about some above ground projects with these blocks.
I've built some large homes with Apex blocks, the company is now gone I believe. The rebar could be mostly replaced by the large commercial fiber. I've done a bunch of flat work and gone back and looked at it 15 years later and it has less cracks than the slabs with rebar

What are you doing to prevent exterior water from seeping in using ICCF?
I'm wondering why you stacked with a running bond instead of stacking each block on top of each other. I believe the manufacturer states to stack directly on top.. was there a reason for that?
In this video you covered several questions I had, the big one I want to know is water proofing the outside?
Does this block create a thermal break between the footing and the foundation wall?
How about preventing moisture wicking up from the footing through the foundation wall?

Amazing how solid the wall is before pouring the concrete. I'm wondering if the walls need bracing like ICF before pouring the concrete?

You can pour 1 floor at a time without bracing.
I read that bracing isn't usually needed up to 8' heights.
Do you recommend ICCF system in a hot zone like central america? And is it recommended in a hurricane prone area?
When he says they have a "great" building inspector over there, he means that the building inspector is a great pain in the rear.
How are they protecting the perfect block blow grade? I'd think they'd want to have a Delta like dimple product against that.
What is sizes this block??
Would this house qualify for a termite bond? I hear pest control companies won’t touch ICFs, for same reasons @steve French mentions below……is that true? I know Perfect Wall is different, but do pest companies agree and insure?
I’m also curious how you recommend applying waterproofing, stucco exterior, plaster interior…..I’m excited about this wall system and hope To learn more!
They just wont guarantee it, but they will still treat an ICF home..
Stucco can go right onto this since it is a cementicous product. I need to ask the company about the use of a rubberized stucco coating for the exterior of an above grade wall.

I would not sacrificed the integrity of my wall and not use the corner block just because of what the inspector likes. Buy a cheap inspection camera (endoscope) for him to inspect down in the cavity. Let the inspector have it if you don't need it anymore or tell him, diplomatically, to step up their game! I'm sure the building code enforcement department in Mawtha's Vinyrd can afford it!
So, *like* ICF, but made of eps toxic garbage, less insulative, lots more work (foam mortar *and* bracing), more rebar, and sourced from 1000s of miles away. What's not to like?

Way less bracing needed compared to ICF, rebar amount comparable depending on build/builder. Distance is the big downer though.
Curious why the choice of perfect over bautex, cost? availability?

What are the true benefits of the ICCF VS ICF?? I see way more labor and not a good quality controls over the blocks
No need for expensive bracing, membranes, coatings. It doesn't degrade if the project gets delayed. Stucco can be applied directly to exterior. Pest resistant.
There is little to no benefit in ICCF.. You still have to stick frame the inside and the R-Value of ICCF is much lower than ICF.. I believe it has been calculated at R1.7 per inch vs R4-5 per in for ICF. There is a reason they removed all R-value from their website.. They were falsely claiming R30 structures when they are closer to R15. Also the pest resistance is a lie as there are some good examples on forums of rodents eating THROUGH the wall since there is not a solid fill like in ICF..
@@FJB2020 I don't pretend to know what the truth is, but people also claim the r-value of ICF is less than advertised. The whole, r-value vs "effective" r-value because there's no air leakage.
The reason I'm considering ICCF, among other options is price. No bracing, no membranes, no coatings. Cementitious exterior ready for stucco. It works out cheaper for me, even if it's not as efficient.

How this basement can be waterproof? No way. Styrcon (styrodur + concrete) as it's called here in EU is a porous and absorbent material. I don't see any continuous (slab to wall) isolation against water capillarity or pressure water. This will be like a sponge with no thermal insulation ability after one season.
Where are the complete homes with perfect blocks........in all their videos they show the homes in construction stages but they will never never show a complete home..........what are they hiding? Are homes ugly or what......can they do a professional video from start to end even if it is 30 or 50 segments!!!!
