    1969 Camaro "Lou's Change" Detroit Speed Deep Wheel Tub Install Video V8TV
    We wanted to run some big Forgeline wheels shod with Toyo Proxes R888 tires on the "Lou's Change" Camaro, but stock wheel tubs dictate the largest tire size on first generation Camaros. To gain more clearance, we installed a pair of Detroit Speed Deep Tubs while we had the body on the jig for repairs. When installed, these tubs retain a stock appearance, but they are significantly wider to accommodate wider wheels and tires to help put the power to the ground. Call the V8 Speed & Resto Shop today to order a set of Detroit Speed Deep Tubs or to have yours installed by our team.

    Helps if you have done this before. No way would I weld in wheel wells without test fitting new quarters which was never mentioned I believe.

    it's kinda a turn off how thin the rails become after all the butchering, might as well just weld some competition engineering rails. That is something I've been looking to see done but no luck yet because I want to do that myself.

    I have a few questions. I have a 67 firebird I want to do this to. Are you able to use the Back seat again? How far in do the Perches on the axle housing/Leaf springs have to be moved in of you don't want to change rear suspension style? Can you still use the stock Gas tank?

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  Рік тому +1

      Great questions. The rear seat has to be narrowed to fit properly. Convertibles require a dimple in the wheel tub for the top to retract all the way. Detroit Speed sells offset shackles to move the leaf springs inboard for clearance. Stock gas tank will work, but exhaust might get tight.

      @@V8TV thank you for answering. You say narrow the rear seat do you mean the entire seat or just the framing Mount part behind the seat? You have a picture of an rear seat used? I'm aware of the Detroit Speed relocation kit but I was wondering how much distance were the shackles moved in because if I order a 9 in I can have the mounts already welded in place to accommodate my existing Springs

      @@Slamstrike You can see the pics of the narrowed seat frame in this link: v8speedshop.com/1969-chevrolet-camaro-transforms-from-big-block-to-supercharged-lt4-v8-at-v8-speed-resto-shop/ We're not sure of the exact dimension of the shackle, but perhaps Detroit Speed can help. Great video, looks very straight forward. How much tire can you run with a MINI tub in a Gen One Camaro?

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  10 років тому

      Detroit Speed recommends up to a 335 wide in the rear of '69s, (we used Toyo Proxes R888 335/30-18s on Lou's Change) and up to a 315 on '67-'68 cars.

    Great video Kevin! How many man hours for the installation?

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  10 років тому

      Ed, it's different for every car, as some require rust repair around the trunk floor and frame areas when you do this job. Plus, as the video said, this was the "easy way" because the quarters were off. A completed car takes longer.

      Just wanted an idea of the time involved in this specific project, thanks.

    Did anyone ever think "maybe we could have sold the car as it was and bought a new body and done all this mods to it". Just seems crazy to cut up a fairly decent car when you can buy these bodies new (with deep tubs installed).

    • @Moore257
      @Moore257 6 років тому +1

      Erik Wordal because if you bought a new body it wouldn’t have a VIN so when you go to title it the car it wouldn’t be titled as a gen 1 Camaro. So selling it would be hard

  • @darrrenbetker4266
    @darrrenbetker4266 10 років тому

    that's all great but how do you put the back seat back in

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  10 років тому

      The back seat needs to be narrowed to fit. We trimmed ours and welded the frame, then had the upholstery done to match the front seats.

      Well, almost 3 inches, which is nearly 20% wider per side.
