Love the Ronin‘s reaction. Before the slice, he was confident and completely sure of himself and his abilities. After the slice, you can see that he’s utterly terrified.
The way the ronin's trick was edited is actually pretty modern. The people behind these films were top notch, really talented filmmakers. It's cut in the movement, there are some frames missing but your brain fills the gap making it look faster and at the same time natural. It's really well done.

Because he was very careful to be polite to all of them. Notice how even greeted them all equally when he left. (Remember, Ichi was yakuza himself... he knew the rules and used them)
I like to give a Big Thank You to the Creator Kan Shimozawa, The Daiei Film Company which is now Kadokawa Daiei Studio for making the Movies, and Shintaro Katsu who to me is Zatoichi and no one could ever replace him. Again Thank You.
I’d also like to thank the individual directors of these classic movies, like Kimiyoshi Yasuda, Kenji Misumi, Kazuo Mori or (in the case of this particular entry) Tokuzo Tanaka. I generally love the way these old Samurai Movies are shot, edited and directed.
There's a chance he could mistake a windmill for a giant, considering I don't think most people from Japan would know what one is at the time, and he can't see shit.
Hope you managed to find a copy! Worst case, any local movie rental store (if they still exist) usually have a very good selection of classic Japanese films, in my experience.
Nice. It’s always great to be humble but when it comes time to show doubters why you are not to be trifled with. It happens quickly and swiftly so it’s unexpected and wakes them up from their transfixed delusions
The scene in this story was excellent. The Ronin showed his abilities. The Ronin was good. Zatoichi showed his abilities with the sword. At that moment the Ronin and the others in the room realized Zatoichi was better. Nothing else needed to be said.
I'm fully aware that this is just a movie, but even in movies, it must retain realistic elements. I've watched most of the episodes and throughout the entire movie, I can't help but wonder why a blind man can travel from place to place, more specifically how does he walk precisely on the path without straying from it? Or how does he walk in/out the door without bumping into things? Very enjoyable samurai movie, but most realistic elements are irrational and illogical.
