Looks better here than in the pics I’ve seen. I’m amazed at how clean the eye looks. Good thoughts on the thin in the back v fat in the back. I only wish you would have cut in some closeups, glory shots if you will, of the head. I really want to see that thing up close. Thanks
I’ve been waiting! There’s a possibility I’ll be receiving one this spring. My dad hasn’t given me my christmas yet. I think he ordered one for me a while back. It looks insane though. I’m happy to hear the geometry of the cheeks are less wedgie than I saw in the photos tui sent me.
Hi! Thanks for the information! What axe is the one on your desk you are not telling about? Interesting handle, what is in the sheath? Best Regards, Jan 🪓
I was looking at getting it and noticed the handle too, 60cm is too short this thing would be great on a 70cm handle. I plan on getting one though i think i would rather have an 1800g head
Wow, that's an amazing axe. The geometry is very close to what I'd go for if I could forge my own. I thought maybe it would be thinner since it's so light. Weird how makers rarely give us an image of the profile. Sometimes I'll put my axe ideas on paper and I usually end up with a six inch bit and a 20 degree flat grind. I'd be interested to see it compared with the Lamaca since it's much closer to what I would consider a work axe. Might need to see about getting one of these.
2:26 great logics. Those tomahawks bite also deep, but get stuck due to lack of cheek thickness. The idea is to chop deep , but also to blow out big wood chips(not potato chips) at the same time.
I've got a Tuatahi camp axe & a work axe on order! Yaaaaaaaaaaay! Thanks for the info! They're both BEAUTIFUL! Can't wait to get mine in my hands! Please do another video (after) you've hafted the camp axe, THANKS! Subbed! Greetings, from Salem, Oregon,USA 🌲🌲🌲🌲
Look forward to further video of it’s use and performance 🙂 I’ve got my eye on the camp axe, my next goodie. And I would use it as a chopper, not a bushcraft axe. For that I use smaller axes. For instance, the Robin Wood Woodland axe makes fairly light work of chopping for the fire and clearing. So a longer handle on the Tuatahi camp axe sounds sensible.
Looking at Tuatahis website they have you decide over frozen, and none frozen wood to be cut. Are you aware of the difference? Do they place a different grind, heat treat, etc? Should someone pick the frozen just to be safe?
Beautiful tool . Interesting about the handle length. I see most talk of handle length as referenced to inside leg length. Is head weight a factor in handle length selection too? I would have thought swing mechanics should be the driving factor. If you have to shorten the handle to cope with the head weight you probably need a lighter head rather than messing up swing mechanics ? Any thoughts?
It depends on the source but I see inner arm length used more often as a guide, and from my experience it is a better fit to a good sized axe. Head wieght really doesn't effect handle selection imho. 70-75cm is a great size on a 2lb head or a 6lb head. You want a handle that matches the work and a head that you can swing without getting tired, which for most will be 65-80cm and 2-3.5lb
Also, I apologize because I don't know if I am wording this right, but can you do a video on different handle length to head weight sizes and what they would generally be used for? I always just use the same Axe and hatchet for everything. Cheers.
@@danielgemmell3368 Love scotland, even though knifelaws there are even worse than in germany. But still the landscape and people make me want to return there at least once a year.
Actually looks much better than the pictures.
Seen Owen use the bigger model, insane performance, I suppose it's not ideal when working for a few hours.
I want that work axe extremely bad! 🪓
unfortunately they stopped making the kingi work axe with forged bevels, glad i got mine while i could
It's going to be a ripper

Awesome I want to buy the work axe. I know it’s heavy but I’m using it for exercise not just work 😊

Its a basque urnieta axe
It is available in a 29" if you ask
This doesn't do my patience any good while waiting on mine to arrive 😒
Ive got one of the campaxes on order. Bit of a wait.

Very tempted to pick one of these up, looking forward to you swinging it.

Tidy size! What's the price? Thanks for showing mate!
about £130 for the head, plus postage, plus customs you are really looking at close to £300. Worth buying in bulk
You must give a link...!!! my wallet is itching!...ok serched it!!! youtube wont allow links on comments..a least not for me!!!
got notification on!
Thanks for the small review!
Did you ended up using a wedge with the basque handle or slip fit works with this axe as well ?
not sure what you mean but i ended up putting it ona 70cm ochsenkopf handle ua-cam.com/video/jvQt2-K1otU/v-deo.html
That looks really nice! Now you have me looking up how much they cost...
Got mine yesterday, hung as the handle was such good value.will almost certainly rehang it . Beautiful thing.
Seriously considering one of these. How long did you have to wait to get it?
@@fourwinds6943 couple of months I think
Thin edge, thick but convex cheeks.
That thing looks sweet.
Nice! I’ve ordered mine and just waiting for it to turn up 🤙

Nah never pick the frozen option if pos. Slightly steeper grind. These axes are best enjoyed in wood that cuts deep
Choice eh 😊
A top of the line axe that I can buy local, for a change. 🤩

Excited to see it in action. Have you decided on a handle length?
70-75cm is ideal for me
I'll be interested to see how it does
That's a good size for general use.
Looks good, any idea what steel Tuatahi uses? Looked through their site and couldn't find it.
top secret, no racing axe maker advertises what steel they use. besides it doesn't matter as much as the temper.

Where best place to find the basque racing handles
If you are from Europe it probably is to write mr Jauregi directly. Prepare to use google translate basque to english and vice versa a lot.
@@TheAnonymousSword thanks👍 scottish to basque will be fun
