SKATEBOARDING PORTION BEGINS AT 27:11
No question about it. This is late 60's desert racing that was aired 10 years later in1977. Mostly 4 strokes, BSA, Triumph, ECT. Some 2 strokes, Husky, Greeves, ECT. But who cares. I remember this when I was a kid. I loved it then, & love it now. Thanks for posting this !
Just showed this to 93yo Dad Norm Johnson SGVMC gold card lifetime member. Now he's bench racing and talking about B2V marking course with a gleem in his eyes
Holy smoke--I remember reading about Buck Smith in motorcycle magazines about 1970...reworked forks, 8-1/2" thick seat and uncanny ability to cross a stream barely slowing down. Very cool to see him racing now--50 yrs. later.
I was there for a helicopter filmed event at the time; this was probably the one. We were cross country riding spectators and avoided much of the pits/starting line mayhem brought on by the unusually high profile. The start was delayed while the film crews got ready, and there were some incidents attributed to riders goin' nuts while waiting.
What A Great Vintage Motorcycle Video. You Can Also Find It On UA-cam Narrated By The Great Bruce Brown Of On Any Sunday Fame . . .
The race itself is circa mid to late sixties. Not 1977. It may have indeed aired in 1977, but anyone who has first-hand knowledge of off road motorcycle racing and the evolution of motorcycles will know that the desert sleds shown were long gone by 1977. The commentator even says something along the lines of "...an event you've enjoyed previously on World of Sports..." A veiled attempt to dupe the less knowledgeable viewers into unknowingly watching an old broadcast. If you listen carefully, It was a fill in for a cancelled badminton tournament.
Chet Dubois The footage at 4:06 looks like footage that was used in On Any Sunday. I say that because it has people waving their arms at the helicopter cam, which happens in On Any Sunday. This video is just lower quality than the movie but I swear the footage is the same.
Chet Dubois Upon further watching, a good bit of the footage shows up in On Any Sunday. That gives a better time frame for when it was actually filmed.

Vintage Hare & Hound Desert Racing (1967)… BSA, GREEVES, TRIUMP, NORTON, HUSQVARNA.. U-Tube in Color Mind YOU..
cheating checkers "mike Burkes' taking the road!! yeah!
Poor narration. The guy doesn't know what words to use. Yeh if someone in 1977 is riding a Triumph they're in a time warp... gotta be 1967
He is something, isn't he. He is mad at that motorcycle. It failed him!
1979: A whole channel with just sports? It'll never work. That venture is doomed to failure. What are you gonna call it? ESPN? Hmmmm. It'll never work.
ESPN doesn't show half the good stuff that wide world of sports used to
Light me up that cigarette while they dump fuel in
10yrs late footage. 🤮
