Nitro Kart was a fine game whereas CTR was a first attept at a racing game and they went all out. Took every good thing from Mario Kart and took it to the next level. Added a Time Trial mode with a Ghost option so you can literally race against yourself. Several Hidden Characters, tracks with several little shortcuts, jumping, trophy ceremonies, etc. For a first racing game, Naughty Dog and Insomniac did EVERYTHING right and set a standard not even Nintendo an match today. On a playstation 1...
Thats why i always defend old games and weak consoles of its generation when people tend to bash it for its hardware for unfair reasons like N64 vs PS1 or Xbox vs PS2. Developer skills, effort and love would always be superior to hardware capabilities. Thats why CTR have physics so ahead of its time, even superior to the remake imo.

They do all get unique poses on the trophy podium though.
That "Bandiboy Magazine" bit really got me! I always find it interesting when they include mature themes in kid's games, but this one takes the cake! That made my day right there!

@BludRedDragon The levels 26-30 are counted in the 100%. You get 1% each for getting a relic in levels 31 and 32 and 1% each for getting a clear gem in each of them (to a total of 4% extra, 2% per each level). The 105th percent comes from getting all gold relics.

I think the standards were set high by the original Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot games and it would be impossible to satisfy all the nostalgia-hungry fans today. Think about Half-Life 3 for example.
Did the N.Sane Trilogy brought it to the golden age? I think.... "not quite" since there's room for improvements (e.g: Additional Worlds of 10 levels for each of the 3 games).
@XoravaX As far as I know, I think the maximum was 105%, and to reach it, it involved getting Platinum Relics in all tracks, and unlocking every single character on the Time Trial mode, including Oxide, Penta Penguin, and N. Tropy.

It actually does. The 3D models are sharper but the 2D spirites (pseudo-3D objects) and textures look nearly same (textures are a bit better than normally). But, as this is the European PAL version, the resolution is bit higher than American NTSC (PAL 576p [ 720X576@50Hz ], NTSC 480p [ 640X480@60Hz ]).
