    Surpringly useful tunes to play in all positions and keys are the Do Ray Mi song from The Sound Of Music classic film (Doe, a deer, a female deer...) and the Christmas carol God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen for reggae flavour interpretations. Great lesson!

    Thank you so much for mentioning the “no shortcuts”, “UA-cam age”, and the like. As a professor I see more struggles today in student learning due to the fact that UA-cam is deemed the answer to cutting time down on working things through oneself. When I see you in this video I see someone who has put all the time into what you are now capable of doing. I come from before 1980, by a few years, and even though I love “learning” off of UA-cam videos, I still have the skillset(s) required to learn without UA-cam. It is only a supplement, not a replacement.

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Рік тому +1

      Thanks very much and well said. UA-cam promotes quick fixes, hacks, etc. which is not good for anyone. It does tempt creators to make that type of content though. It’s a shame because we just live in a hyperbolic world now.

    This is very helpful Dan! Ive really struggled with ear training and working stuff out by ear. For awhile I’d try to work out fairly simple stuff and just felt like I was banging my head against a wall the entire time. I just felt like the bits of time I had to practice were better spent on other aspects of playing, rather than spending 20 mins listening to the same few bars of a song only to barely work out the key. So I kind of abandoned it for awhile to work in chord tones, technique and groove. But this has given me some motivation and a bit more direction to try to go back into it again

    Thanks Dan!! Finally found a bass teacher that understands where most bass players come from. Your knowledge, presentation and material is top-notch. Absolutely love the fact that you explain it where I can understand it and you show examples of how to use it once you understand it. Yes Dan, I’m going to do them this weekend. Yes sir. All of them. I’m going to pause and go back a lot. 😁
    Love those Motown riffs. 🫶🏻
    What I love to do is when I’m playing along. Is D string 4th fret than 2th fret than open D than A string 2th fret. And the same on the A and E string.
    I love that riff. It was the first riff I learned.
    I use it on Alfabet street by prince, about that walk also prince and don’t start lying to me by joss stone.
    Massively cool songs.

    Excellent tip as usual Dan! If I can suggest (or ask) a topic in the basic lessons you are about to release, whilst talking about scales, is suggest some patterns to get out of the box (ie. pentatonic in triplets) you often show it, but it'll be nice to go a bit more in detail. There are videos about it, but your way is probably the best especially in ths field 💪

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  3 роки тому

      That's a good suggestion, Luca. There are LOADS of patterns you can make up yourself. I'll add that in.

    Awesome teaching. But for me. A gospel bassist for 50 years I have to admit a major problem in my style of playing. I actually find myself hearing and playing melody. How can I overcome this tendency?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  9 місяців тому

      I’ve heard about this before. I think it’s a case of starting to listen and analyse only more ‘traditional’ bass lines. You’ll soon be hearing that too.

    • @jrlambert1866
      @jrlambert1866 8 місяців тому +1

      Traditional bass lines, you mean the old simple ones popular in the 70s and 80s. That's what I like.
