I'm sure these are batch recorded so I don't know how much it helps but honey storage is located past the decorations in tier 1. Kinda necessary in case your starting honey storage is bombed so you can prevent resource bottlenecks.

You can actually build on separated wax tiles, Cade found that out when he made a row like seven rows out before deleting all but the last one that he put a hwacha on. So he found out you could put the defenses out farther from the base to hit the enemy before they get to your base.
I hope this helps in your next try with this game...
