I'm a retired controller from Houston Center and former C-130 loadmaster. I would advise against worrying too much about speeds on the approach to avoid "inconveniencing" airliners. We used to have plenty of turboprop traffic into IAH and we just had to deal with it. Do what you're comfortable with and let ATC have to adjust, that's what they get paid for. Fly safe Captain!
Fun Fact: in ATC when we say "Houston" we refer to "IAH", but when we are referring to "Houston-Hobby" (HOU) we always call it "Hobby"...even though it is closer to Houston than IAH.
@13:05 you can see a dirt hill next to the FBO. That hill is a popular spot for spotters who would have been rather perplexed to see a military aircraft at bush, and also excited.
Guys , when I see your smile On your faces after the shutdown, I see myself after my flight from London to IAH. Then I will head to my preferred BBQ place “good company “ restaurant. Boy , I got addicted to my American cuisine. fly safe and enjoy your life. Cheers from the French alps.
Great video! I learned something new. Growing up in Houston, I always thought military aircraft always landed at Ellington Field. It's amazing how much quieter the newer, 6-blade prop Hercs are, compared to the loud drone of the older 4-blade prop Hercs.
True but the old ones do not sound like drones and imo the 4 bladed ones sound way cooler especially when you hear them fly over however not so great from the cabin.
@@ReachAviation 8 blades - holy cow! I'll bet that does sound like a big swarm of angry bees! With 8 blades or more, it probably starts to sound like those unducted fans (UDF) that they tested back in the 80s.
Nice!! I was employed by Integrated Airline Service in 1999 as a ramp agent (handling cargo airline clients) and most of our work was done in the area across from the Fedex facility. Miss those days.
Marshaling the C130 was a lot of fun, especially at below zero temperatures. Wasn't really my job, but we had to learn to do it during TDYs. Spent 36 days at Eilsen AFB Alaska.
2015-1117, Aviation, New C130J Scrapped After Flying Upside Down. The US AF had to scrap a brand-new Lockheed Martin AC-130J Ghostrider gunships. Hercules received damage estimated at $115,000,000 after a flight-test crew lost control. While being operated at roughly 15,000-ft, the aircraft flew upside down, before being recovered after losing approximately 5,000-ft of altitude. The crew escaped injury and returned to base and landed safely, but the Ghostrider was rendered a total loss, having exceeded its operating g limits and design load. Investigators have attributed the incident to the pilot’s “excessive rudder input during a test flight, followed by inadequate rudder input to initiate a timely recovery from high angle of sideslip due to over-controlled/under-controlled aircraft,” along with the “wrong choice of action during an operation.”
Sick video. Ive killed over 60 coyotes just in the field between 26L and 26R. Suppressed 22-250 get sit done! The little dirt service road and FAA shack right before the threshold on 26L is a great spot to sit and take photos/videos! Thanks for yalls service!
Really nice job sir! I prefer the abeam tac myself opposed to this straight in stuff! :) So, interesting style from the civilian rampers to the crew chiefs. They like to keep you guessing! :)
Another cool video. This is extremely motivating for a T-6 student who’s early in the trans block. Not sure what I want to drop yet but this looks pretty cool
Just stumbled on your channel and first video is flying into where I used to work in the TRACON before retirement. Loved seeing you flying the DRLLR RNAV as I started working on that early on in the development and yes....fly the track to ZOEEE. 👍 Nice she got you turned in almost over "lake muddy" as we call it. Love the video and crew interaction. Don't even think about the Bus and Boeing jets following, let them deal with it!!! 😄 Question, about what speed did you grab the tiller? Nice job exiting at NH. Most important a huge THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
The Herk calls it a "steering wheel". As a former Boeing guy, calling it a tiller got me in trouble during initial training. Probably took it around 70 knots or so. Without rudder pedal nose wheel steering, I transition to the steering wheel faster than I did in the 135.
Very good job gentlemen I really enjoy these videos especially the camera view upon Landing, I would like to ask if I could see more of the insurance sometimes when you make your videos and which one of you guys channel is this the one on the left or the one on the right thanks again I love flying

Hi! I think I was on the Dreamliner you passed on the runway in houston. I can send you the video clip - I though it was cool to see a prop plane there so I recorded it. It was at 4:29pm cst last Friday?
Oh no its very loud. I reduce the ambient audio for the video or you wouldnt hear anything else. Its closer to how it would actually sound if you had noise cancelling in the cockpit.

The U.S. was offering them American equipment in place of Russian equipment. It was a fire sale. Or a blowout sale, take your pick.

I've always wondered about airspace conflict and cross facility communication when there is more than one major airport in an area.

Why didn't they land at Ellington? Runways to short?
Welcome to Houston guys!

Another enjoyable video, looked like a very smooth landing there. Keep 'em coming, thanks gentlemen !
Excellent video! Great photography and editing. Thanks for posting.

The 4 bladed props had a deeper growl, the 6 is more of a buzz and the 8 is a damn swarm.

Great video, got to ask what's the meaning behind the callsigns SHARK, AEGIS and HAVOC?
Our squadron uses the AEGIS callsign for locally generated missions. Our sister squadron uses HAVOC. The rest are used by the various Air Operations Centers depending on mission type.
Congratulations 🤩 c-130
A J model is a big step up from the old Roman Nosed A models! Enjoy!
Good video, love it!
Surprised to see the aero app vice foreflight. You guys don’t have the option to use an iPad?
It appears you guys consistently wear the OCP flight suits, is there a reason y’all don’t wear the traditional flight suit?
We can if we choose too. Its personal preference. I feel the the two piece is a better utility uniform and more comfortable when pushing cargo.
aviation rocks 😘😘😘😘
What would a C130 be doing at IAH?
Question? Why did you lower the landing gear way out? I always thought you lowered at a certain altitude or marker?
We lower on speed and usually based on distance to the field. We could have delayed longer here as we are pretty slow once configured.
Another awesome video!! 😁
Question: why do military aircraft stop at civilian airports even if there's not Reserve unit there?
We are fairly self sufficient and have government contracts at many civil fields for support and fuel.

I flew on E models with the military headsets.
1st x viewer, new subscriber!
Seemed like you went to threshhold speed way out. We used to keep the speed up until pretty close in. Has that changed?
I think we bugged threshold but kept closer to flap limiting speed up until short final.
Does the air force pay for the Bose headsets, or are you able to use your personal headset?
AF provided after you complete your first deployment. We use the single plug vs the GA plugs.
I damn near get the shits every time I IFR in storms

Is the channel Reach pilot, because of the RCH callsign? Or am I completely off here?
