Anything that lets you carry more items. Backpacks, dank null, ender pouch dump chest. Storage is a huge issue until you get decent materials.

Something a lot of people don't bother with that is secretly amazing is the tombstone mod. Try to make a decorative graveyard early to attract homeless wandering spirits- they'll thank you by giving you magic, enchanting items and other stuff
Yes! A oddly under used mod in my opinion. Even just to get a random enchanted tool is BIG early game. Getting a silk touch anything (even a stone one) is SO useful early game.

It's important to build a scarecrow definitely not from dark magic totem blocks to look over your farm for it to definitely not steal and wreak havoc.

a Silent Gear setup or Tinkers setup is my go to for modded minecraft. if neither are in the modpack, then a good food supply.
silent gear is tinkers isnt updated since 1.18
The world is always a little less gloomy when Sjin is around. Hope the unerring talent and content gains the visibility deserved sooner than later.

You're back! ❤ I always go for a smeltery from Tinkers construct for the beginning and later build pulverizers and crucshers an stuff to duplicate the resources up to 4 times.

Inventory management is the key to modded minecraft , portable and large scale storage , great new series on the drafting dloor , really looking forward to following your progress :)
Bed > Sleeping bag > BACKPACK > Storage System
With mods you choke yourself out with all the items and all the nonsence and if you dont have a warehouse or something to that effect you spend large amounts of time managing inventory. Backpacks help but are not a solution. Once backpacks are had, exploring is less painful and mining becomes possible. Mining opens up storage options which is critical to any comfortable Modded playthrough

hey sjin, just wanted to say im glad you're making content again. cant wait to binge all the different series again. cheers for all the great content over the many years.
I like to start with an immediate safe spot even if its a cave in the side of a hill. dont want to get taken out the first night, but the actual first thing I do is chop down as much wood as i can get to make charcoal and to prepare torches for underground mining during the night.

the best early game stuff you should make is a backpack. But as soon as you have the resources, make some kind of digital storage; time spent hunting through chests for resources adds up fast.

Just started my own All The Mods playthrough. Gonna use your series as a sorta guide on what to do with all these mods. I don't know where to start. Glad to have another Sjin series.
So glad this video popped up! I got on minecraft back in its alpha days with a buddy from college. Got into Yogscast soon after but Duncan and especially Sjin with tekkit and mods like that or the farm videos were the best!

I like to start off on sophisticated backpacks and iron furnaces as fast as possible. The tip upgrade for silent gear is ridiculously underrated as well. Glad to finally have you back for this pack

Glad to see your channel come alive again! Although my level in russian is pretty low, I believe the russian refugee in your colony is named Pallidia Florentev. And in any modded MC playthrough I do, the first thing I rush is a proper computer/simple storage (or any equivalent) storage system, as it makes everything else much easier :D

I was like 11 or so when i first started watching, over a decade later and im an adult with an appartment and car payments, and i still check your channel daily j in case you upload. I'm so friggin happy your back man, all 7 months were worth it for the pure excitement I feel rn.

Had no clue that mods are relatively well updated these days, I’m too used to mods being way behind. Interested to watch!
The first thing I look up in a modpack is a backpack, or whatever version is available. It just lets me "set the first goal" since I know I'm indecisive when it comes to settling, plus I'm a loot goblin so... I typically carry a lot of "junk right now but useful later" items at all times haha. Every inventory slot is precious!
And hes back! So glad to be watching your videos again.

The first thing I always make is a wooden pick. Fast track to stone tools so I can get my resources faster.

hey there sjin, I think the most important thing to build in a modded playthrough is the Backpack. I love to explore all the new things in a modpack, and to carry it with me. Sophisticated Backpacks mod was a fantastic addition to my arsenal. smelting, autofeed, liquid storage. auto deposit and sorting, a good backpack can quickly get you on your feet into a new modpack.
Welcome back! Hope personal life and renovations are going great!! I Discovered that if you lose the hut block, You can use the wands dig option to highlight the building and perimeter. In my all the mod 8 playthrough had many issues with this. Don't forget you are playing ATM 9!! Some OP tools and weapons can be made with silent gear or other mods that might help low level colonist finish their task quicker and simplify your play time.
We need millions of mahoga-bees
Storage and especially portable storage like Danks or backpacks are always my first priority in a mod pack. Without those you’ll be missing out on a lot of items

I have play a couple of maps since starting ATM 9 and I feel that Crafting on a Stick would have to be a first must when starting. It saves putting down a crafting table all the time. I have gotten into the practice of doing it at the start of each new world. :D Second time watching the series even though it's still in progress!
Oooh Atm 9 has Corail tombstone! One of my favorite mods! I highly recommend setting up a graveyard in town once you get the resources, as it’ll let you do all sorts of cool magic
i'm so happy to see a video from you, definitely missed watching. been recovering from a very difficult first half of the year, and am overjoyed to have this boost to my mood at the start of the day. ironically some major difficulties involved construction lol
important to uh... build a shield? haven't played with mods in about a decade lol, i'd end up weary of any mobs. but actually, since i'm not too familiar with mods, i'd most likely begin by getting the basic books etc for the mods involved so i can categorize what i actually want to do. organization is always key.

Storage and inventory management is always something good to focus on early to avoid getting bogged down later. Anything that expands your inventory right away so you can carry more things is a plus!

Welcome back Sjin! Missed ya! As for that early structure you found, that's Nature Aura! And they're perfectly safe to go near. They even have chests near the infuser at the top. Don't mine the Infuser tho, they won't drop the block and are needed later on!

Id say with lots of mods, you’re gonna need a backpack pretty quick to carry the new items. My inventory is always flooded in the first 10 minutes of a modded world 😂

starting this seires a bit late so i can binge a few episodes at once, love that as you say "alot of you didnt like the woopie cushion in the first series" youre dragging it onto your equipment
Very glad to see you back, Sjin. Comfiest UA-camr for me to chill to.
Most important thing to go for at the start is not too different from vanilla, really. Shelter with a bed, (mahogany door,) torches, food, and tools. The difference lies in what modded tools are available; Tinker's Construct, Silent's Gear, or my personal favorite, Tetra. From there it's a storage solution followed by getting started with any magic mods that are available, and from then on it's time for a new colony.
Colonial is gorgeous, but make sure you account for the lovely roads included with the new style and space your buildings accordingly. (My personal favorite build styles are Frontier, Byzantine and Sandstone, the first two being available in the StyleColonies submod.)
7:36 When I start a modded pack, the big ticket starter item I always look for is the mechanical saw from Create. Its primary early game function is to chop down entire trees (or forests, if you're cheeky) all at once. However, once you get situated, its easy to repurpose into either a cutting station (+50% yield when crafting shafts or planks) or rudimentary tree farm.
