- How to properly back an 18 wheeler or commercial truck with a 53' trailor. This student driver has completed 3 weeks of class training and 6 weeks of over the road training in a Semi Truck or Big Rig as some might say. He can successfully complete a 45 degree back with little or no pull ups.
It's all about the proper setup in order to preform a 45°back in a Semi Truck.
No one told me you're supposed to put your tires straight before you start backing up. That was causing me so much problems, thank you!
Me too brother I don't tractor no no more I drive bobtail delivering gas
Right 😮
This video was a game changer for me. Driving for 5 months and always struggled. In the beginning I had a trainer but there was a language barrier. It was hard for both of us. I saw this video and it all just clicked. Thank you!!
This is a great trainer he explains it so easy to understand I'v watched numerous of vids on backing this one is far the best I'm so confident next time I back IL get It in this guy takes pride in training and was excited his trainee had no pull ups I've watched this video ten times already and I know the formula
One of the best alley docking videos
compcast Thanks
it helped me. I only knew the 90 degree backing before the 45.
I can't believe after watching dozens of videos from sooo many vloggers. Some with 10's of thousands of followers and millions of hits,.. And a guy with a few hundred followers posts the perfect, simplest, shortest, easiest to follow video for the 45° back. Great job and THANK YOU! Now I can back with confidence!!
Tks man
This video was a life saver. Just passed my evaluation for Werner which included a 45 back. Thanks a lot 🙏🏾
Mr. Miller, your enthusiasm makes me feel so good, when your student made it into the hole.
@4:42
The best so far of all the videos I have watched.
Assalamu alaykum
Great job! Ive looked high and low for the proper set up and I never found it. after 6 months of driving nobody has ever told me that your truck needs to be parallel with the dock before cutting back to the left .THAT minor detail has caused me a lot of trouble which nobody ever addressed. I cant tell you how much that little bit of info has helped me. thanks!!
F Mann neither did I lol
Meaning the tractor needs to be at the 12 position before making that hard left ?
I've seen hundreds literally...This is Great Teaching clear and simple to understand. 💯💯💯
By far the absolute best
I was driving n straggling 45 degree parking last 6 months but this video helped me a lot. Thank u very much I wish all the best in your life
That was one of the best demos I've seen. He took his time and didnt hardly steer the truck at all. I know I will get there one day soon
Simple, brief and effective. Nice job instructor & student.
You have the best step by step 45 degree backing I've seen. Absolutely quick and simple to follow and it makes perfect sense. Thanks a million
There is 27 haters so far dislike the video. This video and the only one got me understand the 45 backing. Thank you
Nice job, Kept the explanation simple. Over thinking this has ruined a lot of back ups.
Good video Sir I needed this I am will
Be going to KLLM in Lancaster Thursday and this video I will keep watching up til the week come I do the 45 maneuver
Good luck buddy
Clean movement , good mentorship.
Man, I’ve been with my trainer for a couple of weeks and it’s been going over my head the whole time. You explained it in such an easy to understand manner I got the hang of it after a few tries! Thanks for explaining everything in detail
Hello Jay
Glad it helped you
I been training and I still can't park um bout to get fired it really sucks SMH
Omg thank you so much I struggle so much with backing my god bless you!!! 🙏🏽
Omg this video explained way better than my trainer on the road thank you so much
I’m here at the Jackson yard to do my upgrade test today 4/12/24 watching this awesome video. Now let’s get her done ✅
Best video demonstration I’ve seen so far!
Great job man and yes sir the setup is key!!
Great video, extremely helpful. Best Alley dock on youtube
Airplane Mode , Thank you for watching
Excellent video, easy to understand, thank you.
Quite good lesson. Congratulations.
This helps. I'm in training myself now with KLLM. I'm struggling backing
No questions on this just a big thank you. There’s so many shitty trainers out there that don’t teach shit but everyone can learn from you
Excelente explicación felicidades x el video sigue enseñando los haces perfecto muchas gracias
Best maneuver when you have little space in front of you. IOW; works in every situation.
He wasn't very clear about how far to pull forward left before backing, but about 45 degrees is right (BE SURE TO STRAIGHTEN YOUR TIRES WITH THE TRUCK), though I was told to go until the tractor is all the way to the left (perpendicular to the space). Just be sure back left corner of trailer is lined up with the corner of you space and you should be fine.
Probably the best video I've seen
Wow this is super understanding thank you you can send us more videos
Thanks for your direction I mastered the 45 first try.
Nice job
Nice video👍🏾 you made it really easy to understand
This video is one of the best ❤️
THANK YOU.AWESOME VIDEO 👍
Proverbs Trucker 31 thank you for watching, i also have a blind side backing video
Congrats to the student btw
Awesome instruction hope you are still training..
EmSquare 357 yes sir i am
I'm having such a hard time getting this right this by far was the best video I've seen. Most people shoot the video from inside the truck and go fast.
Glad you was able to use
If your wondering how to to steer when backing what i do is steer from the bottom of the wheel so if you want your trailer to go left you turn left and right you turn right if you do it from the too of the wheel remember its inverted.
Outstanding video...... THAT is what you call the KISS method..... Keeping it Simple, So and So..... No reason to overthink it...... I will be sure to use this method from here on out..... Oh and I also work for KLLM and wish I had you for a trainer, Mr. Miller
Im at Landstar these days
Awsome tutorial and I can say your videos is the best I have seen so far
U awesome instructor.i dig this .I should be able to do it now.pls put some more videos bout everything. Thanks
Man i tried to do the same thing, but the Safety Evaluator kept standing right behind the trailer making it more difficult for me and making me more nervous about him being in the back end. Well long story short he disqualified me and wasn't hired for Pam Transport.
Great video man
Be safe over the road.
Each company will have their on way.
You have to do what they want, real world you will tend to do what make you comfortable
Pam transport sucks
This was a good video. I always wonder how much room is in the front of the truck. Perhaps next time it will be help to show the entire layout or situation before you start the set up because some of the new folks can't seem to imagine the picture.
Best video so far
Perfect backing
Camara man should give us all trailer view. Nice teacher.
That was a really good video, and I've watched a few
Well put. No pull up at all. This is a game changer for me. Thanks man God bless you.
Great video!!
I watchbthis vid once a day
I need to do more
One day i may find the time
Steering towards the problem and getting under the truck is great verbaige
I like this video you are give us a lot help. Very appreciated.
i remember you now we were both in orientation in Oct of 15
That Cuban Trucker look who I found we got Barry and Joe Sanchez!
I have one question....how far do you need to pull up once you make that hard left during the set up?
Until you are diagonal to the other trucks l8ke a T
Looking forward to driving for KLLM
Great Lesson, Thx
Glad it helped
Great job!!
Good job
Great video ! thank you
Great Video
Must be nice to have all that room to maneuver.
Yes but there is a line on the road that during testing you are not allowed to cross.
Excellent
The best example
Where is the nose of the truck pointing at the point?Where you straighten the tires out and back up?
Cool.....So turning your wheels hard right after you set up for 45 is not necessary correct???
Right. It was a revelation to me as well. I've learned the hard right is only sometimes needed and then only briefly.
Nice!
One of the best short video for 45 degree back. Thanks man keep up doing good work 👍 What's the real channel name of this trainer, can u tell me pls ?//?
Parallel to what ? Can anyone explain what he means by that ? Thanks in advance
When you make your approach you have trucks parked side by side in a parallel pattern. When you turn hard right you stay in the turn until your truck is pointing in the same direction as the rest.
At 2:13 you said when the trailer is parallel you do hard left? Does hard left bring the trailer straight? Or it bring the trailer to the right?
Awesome!🔥👌
hey mr miller great vid just wish you did some better camera work!! thanks for explaining the park tho this give me some good confidence
That's a country mile compared to how my backing test is. Hopefully I get it tomorrow 🤦♂️
Only thing I saw about this video was the fact that a lot of places you don’t have that much room to right turn parallel I’m a trainer as well and just tested it and it won’t work in tight spaces such as 55 foot as most trucks stop give you
This is for beginners and put out to give folks a good pattern.
Tight situations you have to extend your turn pattern but you and i are familiar with such ideas. New drivers are not.
Very helpfull
The best one
This is the second time I've seen where the trainee is instructed to keep wheels straight before making any turns and the trainee gets in just fine. ( Grant it I know all 45s will not be the same. This wouldn't hurt to try) Im currently learning this backing in school and I'm gonna try backing straight before turning because I'm so lost after pulling to 12 o'clock then 9 o'clock. And see how it goes.
Remember when trailer is offset you are pushing the front and the back is the pivot point so it actually cuts sharper and allows the tractor to be in a position to get back under trailer.
Man I understand now
My trainer won’t let me stop just keep it rolling
Ask for a new trainer
Nice
How do you know when the truck is parallel at the first hard right, and then for the hard left when do you know to stop? Thanks
Use a reference point or get out and look until you get a feel for your position
2nd when you turn back left you want to be diagonal to the other trucks.
Like your the top of the letter T
good thanks but the view is bad.... you have to focus on the tires
Doing 45 degree better than doing 90 degree when alley docking??
Yes, it's easier and you can use it in tighter spaces.
I did a few backing videos
Want to see the front tires . How to do the 45 going back
Wish we could see the maneuver instead of the side of the truck
He meant drive tires not tandem tires. Those are the back trailer tires
Darren Coleman who cares bro we get it
Question: You said the tandem tires is to be @ the hole. Did you mean the drive tires?
Yes actually I did
One of my first videos very nervous made several errors but student did so good didn't want to discourage by making him do it again
@@bamaredneck8354 sounds good. Just wanted to confirm. I too just got my class A, and the schools dont teach docking. After using your technique thus far, and Ive had to use one maybe two pull-ups to dock. Much appreciated!
Thank You. Can you do another one with wide view?
Next opportunity i get i will try to do one standing back
I watched different vedios about 45 or 90 degree setup but non of them thalk about the tandems position . can you tell me how to set up if the tandems all the way back? thanks.
Drive tires should be at the spot or whole you wish to occupy
the view is little bit bad . but thanks for explanations
The trailer ends up crooked so although this was an acceptable finish for a truck stop, that would need to be fixed at a dock. The trainer is more concerned with not sound a pull up than being straight in the box.
Um the parking spaces are at an angle
Same principle if on a straight dock
Ok...I'm a super rookie, & still learning on what to look for, so my question is......At what point do you turn hard left to start kicking the trailer into the space? Is it when the tandems get just before the line?
You really don't, because of the set up your go straight back and the truck will push the front of the trailer.
Once your trailer is almost straight start getting under your trailer.
With the hard left you speak of
@@bamaredneck8354 ok, thank you very much, BL Miller. I really want to learn, & this video has helped to at least know how to set up, & what to look for.
Volvos are the easiest to back trailers with
Prostars may be a tough better
Cool....question for you!!! After the setup, keep the steers straight and make minor adjustments or turn it hard right to kick trailer and then keep the steers straight??
You should be able to leave mirrors alone and look out your window, some trucks have a big sleeper and drivers like to open the door even and lean out to see. If you do that suggest keeping your seat belt on.
But with the right set up
If you keep tires straight trailer should fall onto place.
Sometimes minor adjustments need to be made, but if you have space to get a good set up. It should be minimal.
If the space is tight its better to extend your truck farther. To allow for the trailer to cut.
Yes a hard kick and then back straight is a good practice. I see so many get their truck so jacked around that they can never get back under it especially in tight situations
Miller thanks for that info right there!!! Had so many trainers telling me to hard right and hold it and do be difficult to get back under it
@@bamaredneck8354 on semi tractor are the drive tires on the back or the front thiers to sets of tires on the back im confused = =
@@jakethehitman187
Front 2 are steer tires
Middle 8 are drive/tractor tires
Back. 8 are tandems/trailer tires
Wish you trained me. Lol
Wow
Wait do you mean line your drive tires set up I'm the hole on the first set up?
when your drive tires are in the middle of the space, stop right there. you got it.
Yes, line your drive tires, he accidentally said tandems.
I always screw up on my set up! It frustrates me sometimes
Bud G lol who you telling!!
it takes time bro, u'll be aight.
Dont do it all in on motion stop if you have to bro
@@gottiic6529 I’m backing pretty decent now man 😎
What's the difference between a 45 and 90 degree alley dock
Ready4 DaWorld hard to put into words. Won't let me upload a picture.
Ready4 DaWorld check out new profile pic 45 is in between 30 and 60 its not listed but that position is where uour truck would start.
