    Thanks for the video as always, Dan. Couple questions 1- wouldn’t it be helpful to have a line on your gun in cases like if you’d shot the Cubera 2- was the PH on the way up intended for another AJ or in case of a gray suit?

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 роки тому +3

      AS7, there's really no way to rig a Speargun to be max effective for all possible scenarios on a given dive. There are many places that free shafts won't work and line shafts excel. Out here, if you rig with a line shaft, you really handicap yourself with speed of reloading and range. For what I mainly do, free shafts are the most effective way . That being said, yes, a double banded line shaft would be a great way to pull a big Cubera out of a wreck. You just have to keep the line stout and short or he'll break it or wind it through a dozen obstructions and you still won't get him.
      As far as the PH on the way up, The larger AJ's ahd put in an appearance while I was leaving and I would have PH one on the way up if one gave ma a good shot, which didn't happen.
      Thanks for great question. Best, Dan

    Hey Dan. I appreciate your videos. What PH brand do you use, have you used in the past and any recommendations. I'd prefer .357 to leverage what I use elsewhere, but would be open to any caliber.

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 роки тому +4

      Bill, I've tried about every caliber out there. I settled on the 7.62/54R for several reasons. It's a rimmed cartridge so it's relatively easy to design a PH around. Most examples of it are military surplus and come waterproof sealed from the factory. It's a FMJ round and they're usually inexpensive too. It's just a great round! Good question, Thanks Dan

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 роки тому +3

      JD, that's a question with a lot of variables affecting the answer. A very very rough guide would be around 3 minutes of deco for every minute of bottom time in 220'. This can vary significantly depending on length of dive, bottom mix, deco mixes, level of exertion, water temps, viz and other factors. Glad you're enjoying the video's, Best, Dan

      It is not a Sport fishing boat . It runs under a Commercial License , and so Commercial rules apply . They gather certain types of fish for others to eat , and EVERYTHING they take MUST be sold to his supplier . The supplier sells FRESH FISH to restaurants so there will be choices of fish on their menu when you show up for Supper . He records what he is doing so we get to see what he takes , and what he chooses to not take . Just a fellow doing a very dangerous job even though he makes it look easy most times .

    That tube on the end of his speargun is an explosive tip, considered a firearm. Illegal in Florida state waters. Dan is obviously out in deeper, federal waters. Not sure how he can spear more than one amberjack per day, that's the daily bag limit.

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  3 роки тому +1

      Amy, that correct, they are illegal in state waters. They're also illegal for harvesting food fish in Federal waters, inside of 60 feet (or inside 120 feet, depending on what part of the coast you're diving off). As I mentioned it's a commercial boat, and operates under commercial rules, not recreational rules. Best, Dan

      You can't go diving in the deeper waters below 150 feet without tanks , and he is normally over 100 miles off-shore . Both of those reasons show that those fellas who use snorkels will never go where he is diving to get fish from . Just a fella doing his job , and he records what he sees and what he takes back to sell ( he can't keep any of the fish as EVERYTHING must be sold to a supplier ) .
