Slowly so well explained as he NAMES the Keynotes step by step! ENJOYED with counts said; I can master it now! Thanks so much Steve! Wonderful!! Do more famous songs!!
his lessons are very awesome I'm a guitar player and haven't played this song in years before I learned all them jazz chords we've been playing this song wrong before internet. I started on piano than picked up guitar in 1965. decided to transfer these same notes he's playing on piano to the guitar. That was a good work out and it actually took the cramps out of my hands. thank you for your videos and time. I'm just learning the flute part on it now. Learning all the songs that I played over the years with guitar only instrumental style a lot of fun
I absolutely love this. I'm 41 years old. I haven't learned how to read music (yet), I know nothing about chords and arpeggios, but now I want to learn how to play some music on the piano. I've always dreamed that if/when I learn to play the piano, that this would be the first song that I would want to learn. This video is an awesome tutorial. I will say that the hard part is remembering where I left off. Like, when I stop, I have to start all over, from the beginning. There are too many "up and downs", and each one is different, so then my brain gets confused on which set I'm on. So I just start from the beginning - which has been helpful too, to solidify the first parts to muscle memory. I'm going to finish getting this down pat, and then see what other tutorials you have to offer.
I think your lesson is very good... I enjoy it...HOWEVER, my only suggestion would be to say the notes you are playing as you play them... not for every chord but at least a couple times here and there... I’m learning pretty quick but sometimes it’s hard for me to see which keys you are playing at times...thank you!
Finding this piano tutorial of one of my most cherished songs...: Awesome! Learning it so good from a person who really enjoys teaching.. : PRICELESS!!!
After studying your teaching technique, there was a sort of an epiphany. There are TWO special and uniquely different skills in this world, which give so many ppl, incredible joy & a sense of accomplishment. Both require DEDICATED TIME, REPETITIVE PRACTICE and DEFINITE PATIENCE. They are: learning how to train YOU & your Dog Basic Obedience Skills without frustration. AND, even more personally rewarding, the study and hands-on playing of the PIANO. With Canine training the feedback is the Dog demonstrating a skill. With keyboard, we learn the skills. With both skills achieved, human beings get a most fulfilling sense of accomplishment and truly, sheer joy. The rewards of both are immeasurable and both require the same skill sets. As a perennial student in both studies,, I've found your PIANO TEACHING technique flawless. Its a joy to practice and such an sense of accomplishment. Thank you for understanding how our minds learn and how complex skills, are translated within the human brain. You clearly have stunning keyboard skills but your own patience, the patience needed to teach different levels of students is remarkable. After watching, I believe, every other You Tube piano Instructor, you are not a "show-off" as so many seem. It must be tough to repeat keyboard sets, without playing faster as too many instructors do.. In the past 25 years, I've had 5 keyboard instructors in 4 different countries; we've spent tens of thousands in lessons. But not even my professors late on, at university had your teaching technique insight. Thank you very much! Well done. P.S. Just one request? PLEASE, RECOMMEND A LINK WHERE WE MAY PURCHASE SHEET MUSIC APPROPRIATE FOR THE PIECES YOU TEACH ON YOU TUBE?
Thank you, Steve. Excellent. I bought the score from music notes and the chords they give you after the intro and once the singing starts and later when the flute plays are very complicated and not what Chicago actually plays. But you cleared that up for me. Thanks again.
I learned the right hand movements on my own; however, thanks for short-cutting the bass portion which gives the song more fullness. Saved me some time.
Steve I can't thank you enough for making this. I was playing Gymnopèdie 1 for a long time and I wanted more of a modern classic and Color My World seemed like the one. I thought it would take forever to learn the song and then I found this video. After watching this for twelve minutes I became able to do the entire intro, mistake free if I may add. Thanks again Steve and keep up the good work! -Damian
thought this would be super easy, but it's actually, chord wise, quite sophisticated. As a teen, Chicago was always on the radio, and I liked some of the tracks, but was never enough of a fan to go out and buy an album; wasn't actually in to horns at that age either.I could not name a single band member. But now that I've learned more of the band's history... I appreciate more; they were really a hot live act as well. In High School my guitar buddies and I would play the opening chords of 25 or 6 to 4, but now I am going to learn and sing this one. Thank you so much for the lesson and posting. You teach authentic versions, and are very patient and thorough.
I am picking up this classic song with my kalimba in the 3rd Octave. And Still an old school. Chicago- fan. Ppl can look up the sheet music on the web.
Dam good teacher 👍 and does the steps at a SlOW pace , very detailed with counts , etc! Best tutorial on - Color My World!" UA-cam do NOT let this guy get OFF this site! He names the key notes played by letters! Very helpful! Love ithsi VIDEO and for a dummy like me , got it! Will be a master tomorrow! We can pick up our OWN pace! Dam best tutorial here! Enjoyed it! Just the LIGHTING kind of dark but a great lesson, EASY to follow! Hope he does more famous POP SONGS! Sir, do " impossible Dream" by Tom Jones! Best karaoke of him is on UA-cam! No one ever did his Impossible Dream! - piano tutorial! Wish lighting more bright!
Thanks for posting this video. You are a fantastic teacher! I’ve only been playing for about a month (just retired and had a lifelong dream of playing the piano). I heard this song on the radio and thought it would be a good challenge. It’s a great song to help with fingering and arpeggios. Your pacing and instruction are outstanding. It will take me a couple of weeks to master this but I’m learning a ton. Hope you post more videos.
This 2nd part as good as the first part! Loved it ❤️! EASY tutorial because this guy misses NOTHING, very detailed and SLOWS down for beginners like me to catch on! He ALSO calls out EACH letter keynote by naming it ! Wow! Very FEW people who teaches well ! This one pays off to learn from ! Hope we can get more POP songs from. him! I pray he does 🙏 " Impossible Dream by Tom Jones! KARAOKE version of him is his best version 😍😎!
Thanks very much, Steve, for the amazing patience you show in laying this out so deliberately and clearly. Clearly you recall well what it is like to not really know what the heck you are doing on the piano, because your repetition and easy going pace actually makes all this comprehensible to relative beginners like myself. Outstanding job!
My friend... you should have thousands of UPS not hundreds.. not sure why. This song is one to learn. You do an excellent tutor. Just saying. Thank you. I gave you a thumbs up over 3 years ago. Thank you. My choice of instrument is keyboard. I 7/8/9/ grade i was trombone and 1st trombonest... but i had no friking idea of muslc. It would take me to 35 years old to do a one year music (which I aced 4.0 in actual college Modesto jr college) THAT I needed.) I know your post is years old but I hope that you might see this. I've never gotten there. i've learned this song but I'm coming back.... to your tutorial... just saying thanks
Thank you so much for taking your time to teach this. You do a wonderful job! Have small request when the piece gets more tricky for us that r not advanced ,if u could say the notes when they r played together. I rewind & rewind but sometimes it's difficult
Beautiful song. The EbMaj9 with the "Me" being sung over it is amazing. There are so many talented piano players but few good teachers. Thanks. This is a great lesson. Side note: How on Earth do you write that?!
super ! thank You. On of myu fav song of anytime. You should provide the chord progression also to have the complete guide. May I put here the chrod progression I have identified : FM7x2 - Am - Bb - EbM9 - AbM - GbM - D9 - GM - Eb9 - C7x2 - (FM - Bb - C). Missing the passing bass notes : to be done later.
Ready Steve,.... bah bah bah-bah ballroom blist, ... No seriously, doesnt it help to say what key the song is in?? IDK, need all the help i can get. Still havin fun. Thanks, I couldn't hav done it without YOU!!!
F Major....but the chords are so all over the place that it doesn't feel like a very coherent key signature.....lots of key changes and #Accidentals in this one
Can anyone tell me what the final chord is? After the final Fmaj7, at about 2:54 in the remastered Chicago video on UA-cam, the piano adds one, final, dissonant chord... What is it? What are the notes? Playing this on guitar. Thanks! :)

Wow! Perfect song for harp! How is it going? Can you post a video of you playing this song on your harp? :)

Would you just list the chords in order of play?
Do you just replay the intro over again when the vocals come in?
Yes, the piano part is that same sequence played 3 times in a row 👍
@@PianoManSteve Perfect, thank you. Trying to recreate it in Garage Band. One of my favorite Chicago songs.
I want to play this song without a single hour of practice :)
