Wow! I've been doing stone fascad and flagstone work for over 20 years and I can honestly say that you did a fantastic job! Great work! Greetings from Germany!👍
Just found you & couldnt be more thrilled. I love the way you display & share content, the information: concise yet meaningful. Well done! I cant wait to view your other posts.
looks great! Is there a particular type of mortar that you need with a hearth? I am in the process of making a hearth for camp and was wondering if I could use the ready mix motor or do I have to get some special kind?
I agonized over this question! Just regular mortar is fine, as long as your stove has adequate heat shields. If you’re in doubt about that, you might want to go with a high heat mortar.
Thanks! I went by the clearance requirements in the owner’s manual for the stove, which broadly describes “non combustible” materials. I interpret that to be cement board + stones.
Update: The griddle works fine as long as the fire is basically coals. Invest in or rig up a splatter guard so you don’t have to repaint the bottom section of stove pipe. Don’t ask how I know hahaha. Generally we don’t cook directly on the griddle, but we put a cast iron pan on top of it.
I agree. Wise move to re-enforce the base... always trust your instincts. Personally The base seems to be a little busy. It would have looked better all dark. All in all, good job.
@@offgridrising I agree with you. Use what you have... and I think - thanks to your talent - it looks great!!. I'd love to do the same when my new Blaze King arrives in 4-5 months but it looks to be a lot of work.
Nice job! Looks great.
Thank you!
Great job looks fantastic!
Thank you!

Thank you so much for your kind feedback!
It looks great Erika!
Thank you, Lori! It was a fun project.
True artistry. Beautiful beautiful work. So inspirational. What type of mortar are you using?
Thank you so much! I agonized over what to use, and went with regular thin set.
great job
Thank you!
What did you do to reinforce the floor system under all of this? Double the joists?
Happily it runs directly over a girder so it was pretty simple to support by adding a pier right under the middle.

Great job all around ! You mentioned that you are doing this legal, did they allow 1 sheet of 1/2 inch dura rock and your rocks ? A sincere question.

Beautiful ! What kind of mortar did u use? Please?
Thank you! Just regular thin set. Then I topped it off with grout.
The spacers that you mentioned, they go behind the cement board correct???
Yes, between the cement board and the Sheetrock. Make sure you place them over studs!
Nice work. If i may ask what are thoughts on your wood stove particularly the griddle?
I like the look of it! We haven’t used it yet because of course the weather warmed as soon as it showed up!

Thanks! The reason for the color choices was that I had a limited quantity of both. I used every last dark stone that I had.

@@CW1116 you can do this!
What was the end cost for the hearth?
About $150!
What was the end cost?
About $150 for the materials I had to buy
Hopefully less then 50 bucks
About $150 after cement board, hardware, thin set and grout
Why did you say: "numero uno"? That is Italian!
Uuuhhhh because I can?
@@offgridrising I am surprised, because I am Italian, I did not know you say that in English!
