I have yet to have to fly to dive, but it is planned in the future. Videos like this are very helpful for people new to flying with dive gear. Thanks for making it.
Great video, I do not travel out of the country much, and packing is very stressful. I take what you take it's just me. On one trip, I had a small tool in my reg bag in my carry-on. When I was leaving Cayman Brac to head home, they confiscated a tool and said something about a tool of the trade. I will be watching this again, heading to CoCo View in July. I might see about putting my reg set in my checkbag next time. That is a nice SSI bag. The dive shop I instruct for does not let us get the instructor perks. I snuck one in from last year and got a great deal. Have fun. Chris
Hello @tazccl, I too have lost plenty of tools to TSA while traveling abroad. As stated in previous videos, I will typically pack my regulator in my carry on. On this specific trip, since I was diving Sidemount specifically, it was a better option to just leave it in my checked luggage. If I was to arrive with just my carry on (if the airliner lost my checked box), then the regulator would be useless if I had it and not my Sidemount BCD, and vice a versa. Plus, where I was traveling too, there were complete sets of gear I could use if all my luggage was lost.
It is definitely difficult at times @la5150hi-lophoto. Of course there are the 3 day trips I go on where I fly some where, dive for one day, and then fly back. On those trips, I usually only take my mask and computer and simply wear local rental gear. As an Instructor, I do this every few months when some one hires me to travel to teach for them. Its cheaper for them to fly me to their location to teach a group, then for all of them to travel to us to learn.

Glad you liked the video @DJ_Death_Star and found it helpful.

Framing luggage as part of your dive gear is my mindset. Just like any dive you want the right tool for the right job and no more or less.
We agree completely @ccreevan.
Nice video! Can you get through TSA with the spool and reel and snaps?
Hello @danflaherty1132, thankfully, we have never had any issues with TSA in regards to spools, reels, and snaps.
Hopefully we'll get some good spearfishing videos when you return...hint hint lol
Hello @ddpd0710. We have plenty of content we are filming on this trip. Hopefully the fish will be there for us to hunt.
I take way too much
Hello @lyndalebrunson4463, most divers do. It took me years to realize I took too much gear for most dive trips. Especially, when I fly.
Packing lite for a scuba trip??? Impossible:)
