Everything about this was amazing. Once his mask was damaged and inhibited his ability to focus on the situation, he took it off and focused solely on stopping the train. Nothing else mattered but saving those strangers. It showed that Peter was willing to sacrifice himself for others. It also showed that he brought the community together. They saved him from falling and all agreed to keep his identity safe. This was one of the most human moments we have ever had in a superhero movie.
Anybody else kinda tear up when you see all the people universally agreeing not to ever speak of seeing him without his mask? Something about that moment just feels beautiful. God Tobey is still the best Spidey. Brought so much emotion to the character.

In the first Tobey one, the city turned against him because of Jamieson, but then got back in his side. Then obviously in the second one the city is still on his side. Even in the third, which I still think isn't a bad movie, they show how much the city relies on him. Garfield's Spider-Man never had this, they were on his side from the beginning, there was no fight to gain the trust of the city. And for Holland's Spider-Man, they're just now getting into the public being against him. I love the MCU, but sometimes they don't feel like art like all the movies that aren't tied to any huge universe. Tobey's Spider-Man 1 and 2 are still the best imo, and I don't think that'll ever change because of how emotional those two movies make you feel. It feels real. Same with why so many think the Dark Knight Trilogy are the best superhero movies, because they don't feel like superhero movies. The people feel real. I write so much when I talk about these superhero movies I love 😂
@@everythingisawesome2903 He hasn't Fully grown as a matured Spiderman yet. I think in Raimis Spiderman everything happens so fast. Him getting powers as well as fighting Villains and becoming an experienced fighter pretty soon. But MCU takes everything slowly and steadily therefore I think it's more accurate. It is nearly impossible for a school kid to take all these big responsibilities into his hands without much experience. Afterall he is a kid. It's due to that reason why we are getting Spiderman No way home in the first place. If all these Spiderman had a similar take on them there was no point in rebooting them 3 times. Each time they wanted to have a different take on Spiderman. It's human nature to like and dislike something, it is impossible to make people love something universally.
@@unnirajac8617 for sure. Idk, out of all of them tho I definitely think Tobey's Spider-Man is the most selfless out of all of them. Imo of course. The one review I watched of Garfield's made a good point in the second one when he's chasing rhino he doesn't just stop him. He tells him all these jokes and what not possibly causing people to die because rhino is just causing havoc driving all around. I don't hate on Garfield, I just think he didn't have a great script to work with. And Tom's, he just doesn't feel like his own hero yet. He's constantly in Tony's shadow. I get different takes, and I'm all for them, but imo Tobey has still been the definitive version of the character. Even if he doesn't have all the quips and mechanical web shooters, the heart of the character is there in his performance.
@@unnirajac8617 the thing with the MCU Tom's version is he's been Spider-Man for a bit by the time we see him. I almost guarantee if we met him in when he first got bit it would be almost very similar to Andrew and Tobey's Spider-Mans being thrust into action. That's how it is tho, almost as soon as Uncle Ben dies Peter makes that choice to use his power for good. That's how selfless he is. He immediately realizes that's what he's meant to do. So if we would have met Tom around uncle Ben's death, I think it probably would have came off as fast like you mentioned for how you think Tobey's felt. Spider-Man isn't like Batman who took years to train himself. Spidey makes it up on the fly. And I wouldn't say Tobey is super experienced in the beginning. I mean he gets his ass kicked by Goblin at the end of the first. He does become experienced by the second one for sure tho, cuz I think they say it's been 2 years that happened in between the two movies. To sum things up tho I'm just happy it seems that fans of all versions are getting to see the ones they love the most again (hopefully/almost certainly). It's a really cool thing marvel is doing.
It really is. I wish more movies had moments like this. It's not enough that the hero just saves people, but that those people have some character and heart as well.
Two things that made this scene one of the most powerful and emotional: a) It really shows that even superheroes has limits. You can see that SpiderMan literally just used his webs and body strength to stop the train. b) The fact that one of the passengers said, “He’s just a kid; not older than my son.” They all thought that SpiderMan is a trained professional or martial artist. But in reality, he is just your average pizza guy who is still studying for his degree.
c) The way the New Yorkers unanimously agree to never speak about Spiderman's identity and to stand in front to shield him from harm. It shows how they truly appreciate Spidey as a hero and not some superpowered human
A science class student, a part-time pizza delivery boy, who tries to spend time with his Aunt, tries to maintain relations with MJ. And on top of these, HE'S THE PROTECTOR OF THE CITY !! Hats off to Peter for living several lives simultaneously 👍👍
My favorite part is that everyone saw his face, but nobody, not A SINGLE PERSON revealed his identity. Sure, they didn't know him personally or his name, but they kept his face hidden. Spiderman saved the people of New York, and they immediately paid him back.
The MCU is literally goverbment propganda about how only rich elites and people who work for the military industrial complex are allowed to be heroes. The Sam Raimi trilogy is about how anyone can be a hero. They're basically polar opposites of each other. Even MCU Spiderman can't be a hero until he gets his AI-powered super suit from NATO.
What i love about the scene is it shows people of all different ages and backgrounds working together to try and help. Kinda feels like blockbuster movies often used to reflect a more unified society

I know people love to make fun of Tobey's screams and facial expressions in this scene but you gotta realize that its the most realistic way, There's no way you're stopping a train with webs while keeping a straight face while making a few grunts
The fact he doesn't care to look good, that he just wants to look like he's putting his absolute ALL into it, THAT is what makes good acting. I personally spend a lot of time and have so in my lifetime, forcing. Stretching out my muscles to the absolute sheer limit of ripping and failing me. I know the amount of willpower that would go into holding onto those webs and it requires an absolute conviction from within the deepest parts of your soul. He WANTED to stop that train for real, he wanted to really be Spiderman really putting his all.
Yeah, I really don't get when people make fun of his facial expressions, I mean, he is stopping a freaking bullet train which is running at the speed of 80 milles per hour, ofcourse his face is supposed to look like that. If these people lift heavy weights at a gym, they will also make face like that or even worse.
This sequence still holds up today, but back in 2004? This shit was _mind-blowing._ Even today, that shot of him dodging the oncoming train still gives me chills.
It’s crazy how well this holds up. There are some obvious cgi of Molina but aside from that it’s a dope fight from a building onto a train The premise itself is simple and believable and that’s what makes it so good

I love that line “He’s just a kid. No older than my son.” It perfectly captures the character of Peter Parker. Yes, he’s this larger than life super hero but at the end of the day, he really is just a kid trying his best.
This scene is iconic, still holds up so well and is arguably the greatest fight scene in any super hero movie. It’s not the fight with Doc Oc that makes it great, it’s the moment where he saves the citizens putting literally everything into stopping that train. Then it culminates with the people swearing to keep his identity a secret and protect him with their lives. Bravo Rami
I agree, I don't love the fight sequence itself that much, it's fine just not my favorite ever. I actually like the vibe of the final confrontation more than this one, although it's not a very long with the action. The climbing fight when he snatches Aunt May is another more interesting one IMO. The train stop itself is one of the greatest superhero movie sequences ever made.
This scene is so powerful. The whole movie Peter is having an identity crisis. It destroys him psychologically. But the smiling faces of the people looking at him without his mask, the very people he just saved, IS the payoff of the movie. He finally realizes that its ok to be Spider-Man. That people need him. Depend on him with their lives. With great power comes great responsibility. His identity is no longer in question to himself.

When I was reading comics and graphic novels, my older relatives could not relate to them and Sam Raimi knew he had to make Spiderman for everyone, not just comic book fans. Accuracy is good if you're targeting a small niche, but if you want everyone to enjoy the character, you have to make it relatable to all. Comic book fans will not like it but your grandpa might.
The scene with the train passengers promising to keep Spidey's secret always get me because through the whole movie up to this point nothing was going right in Peter's life. And while most people of New York were already seeing Spider-man as a hero, they never knew that the person behind the mask was a unassuming young man essentially down on his luck and struggling to keep his life together. So when he saves everyone on the train and they see his face, its Peter Parker that saved them, not Spider-man. Peter for once finally got the recognition he deserved and that always makes me tear up.
Man I remember years ago when I was reading Spiderman fanfiction based off of these movies. There was one that I think was written before SP3 since Harry as the Green Goblin was the bad guy. Anyways Harry worked to derail Peter and MJ's wedding plans and while looking for a replacement vendor for something or other Peter inadvertently found one of the people from the train and didn't realize it and they all came together to make the wedding work as a thank you for him saving them. It wasn't until it was all over that Peter even found out who everyone that helped him was

I believe the reason seeing a 15-year old kid putting his body on the line to save a bunch of strangers is so weird to us is because of the time difference. Back when the comics were published the rough patch for life through which people turn into adults was between fourteen to seventeen, now It's eighteen to twenty five.

I grew up in NYC so whenever I use to take the 4 train (the one that’s above ground) I use to go to the front of the train and pretend like I was the one stopping the train and the adults use to clap sometimes. It’s the little things that make our childhood wholesome. A kid always remembers !
The soundtrack is so incredible. The raw emotion in this scene, despite the series being kinda cheesy and dated, is still so powerful. An iconic moment and still hits hard. Spiderman is best when he’s bearing the burden alone, not in the MCU
I rewatched this film yesterday after 15 years or so; and trust me, rewatching it as an adult you fully realize what a fucking hero Spiderman is; specially in this scene; he has nothing, no money, no girl, nothing; and yet, he gives everything he has to defend his city. I was on the verge of tears in this scene. SPIDERMAN YOU ROCK!!!!!
The moment when those normal people standing between Spidey and Doc Orc, we never see that moment again in any superhero movie. That's why this is still best Spiderman movie ever, for me. It's heartwarming, and in someway it encourage a heroic part inside us.
Regular people, with no superpowers or anything extraordinary about them still stood up for their hero to protect him. That's the best part of this whole scene. That you don't have to be super to be someone's hero.
This scene showcases EVERYTHING amazing about Spider-Man. Swinging, walk crawling, agility and spider sense, and super strength. He adapted to a new situation through the fight that showed what Spider-Man can do. Most importantly through all the action they showed him being the PEOPLE’s hero. This is everything Spider-Man is.
Other than the dad jokes Tobey is the best incarnation of the character imo. He has good quips in the PS2 game though so I think it was just a choice of writing.
I think it's because in this moment 99% of people would care more about making it out alive rather than taking video, the ones at the front anyway. The ones in the back compartments who have already seen Spider-Man break several windows and see him carried to the back however would more than likely not be so secretive about it, especially once the train is stopped and danger has passed
What I love about this scene is that it perfectly contradicts what Goblin told Peter in the first movie that everyone says was “always right” about how the community would relish in seeing Spider-Man fail, fall and die trying. You can see in this scene that Peter remembers this but it still doesn’t matter to him, he is Spider-Man and Spider-Man is a hero to the end. So as he loses consciousness he thinks that he’s failed, he knows that he is about to die trying to save these people and he falls. But as he falls he is lifted back up by the people that he saved. This proved Goblin wrong and truly showed Peter what Spider-Man represents to New York
Admittedly I didn’t care for Goblin’s sermon in when I first saw 1, only because it felt out of place with what was otherwise going on in the first movie. But you’re right. This and most of how Peter chooses to act as a hero are one long refutation to Osborne’s bitter, self righteous advice. It’s one long ,”No, you’re not right. No I will not become as bad as the villains I try to thwart. And no, your way will not be proven right. You don’t get to win.”
Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield are both amezing actors no doubt about that..but what Toby brought to the character is just simply unmatchable..he is the best spiderman ever, by a distance.. period

The cgi holds up really well for a movie that came out in 2004. Best spider man movie in my opinion. Great character development for Spider-Man throughout the movie.
This scene for me described perfectly what superheroes should be about: people. In the MCU civilians are there just to... Actually watch, not even be saved. This scene shows New York defending its hero and the hero finally accepting his role and identity because of that recognition form the people. It's so powerful, so inspiring.
Yeah but, now it's aa bunch of space peeps trying to rule earth or, yah know... Wipe half of it away like dirt. Plus, they never really attack civilians anymore, they just get stuck in the crossfire. It's not about saving NYC anymore, it's about saving the plant.

The scene when he fainted and everyone carries him and gently lays him down is one of the most heartwarming scenes literally, it makes me so emotional. When I was a kid I cried in this scene.
The close up shot around 6:03 seems symbolicly personal to me, it showed that he is still a human with limitation and vulnerability. Hes been through a lot of shit and never been personally thanked (due to the secrecy reason obv), but this scene really show how much he meant for the community. I dont think MCU has ever done a scene as powerful as this, simple yet very heartwarming.

Just me or super hero movies don't do this anymore?: SAVE civilians, it's always a big CGI fight with the bad guy and his henchmen at the end. We need more of this... Thank you Raimi.
To be fair tho. Avengers save a lot of civilians in Avengers 1 and 2, but the Spider-Man movies definitely highlighted the New Yorkers as an important character for sure

This scene always makes me emotional. When they are passing him to the back and everyone gets in front of spidey to defend him. This came out 3 years after 9/11 and really captured how close everyone had gotten and come together at the time.

tobey got a lot of flack for his faces but honestly, the amount of emotionally intense, physically intensive things the character has gone through, i believe tobey really was spot on with his performance conveying what peter had to do/go through
This movie captured one of Peter Parker’s biggest conflicts, living two lives. Peter Parker is an interesting character for a couple reasons, one of them being his struggles of trying to be two different people; a student/an average adult (depends on the time) and a superhero. And this movie showcases its not easy to live two different lives, something Peter Parker has always had to deal with. Furthermore, this movie also captured the “with great power, comes great responsibility” message, as in his absence, chaos would’ve happened, but when he returned, he saved the day! No Way Home was fantastic, but I think Spider-Man 2 takes the cake as the best Spider-Man and best Marvel movie
This Spidey is the best because he made his own suit, he didn’t need Tony Stark’s help. Every hero fight in all three films is him going hand to hand using his own devices, his own strength, no high tech stuff. It don’t get more authentic than that.
My favorite thing about these particular Spider Man movies is the constant theme of everyday heroes. Peter is almost never the only one being heroic. You have the people in this scene catching him, keeping his identity secret, and putting themselves between him and Doc Ock. There's the scene with him vs Goblin on the bridge where he's trying to save both Mary Jane and a car full of people, and Goblin is attacking him, and people on the bridge start throwing stuff at Goblin to get him off Peter. There's the scene where he rushes into a burning building to save a child without his powers and the floor collapses under him, and the little girl tries to help him up despite being like a toddler. There's a scene during a fight where a couple women are about to get crushed by falling debris and a random guy grabs them and pulls them out of the way. The movies are just full of it, and I love it. Because even if Peter feels like it is, the weight of the entire world is never put on his shoulders. Everyone around him is helping and being heroic in their own small ways. And it's a cool message that everyone doesn't just stand around waiting for the masked hero to save everyone, they go out of their way to save each other as well.
One of the exemplary reasons I love this trilogy to death apart from it being about my favorite superhero. A deeply meaningful theme that you don’t see in modern cinema often
The people on the train, they were amazing. Showed that's there's good in people. They saved him from falling, carefully lowered him, promised that they wouldn't tell anyone what he looked like and guarded him with their life. You can see their scared faces, they knew that Doc Ock can tear them in half in the blink of an eye. Yet, they stood up, to insurmountable odds- and faced their fears to do what they believed in. That's the people Spiderman inspires.
I guess from a cinematic perspective, when the mask comes off, it wasn't just Spiderman, it was also Peter Parker. Who he is truly all comes together, the bravery and righteousness of Spider-Man and the Strength and Heart of Peter. Instead of fighting both sides of his life, He embraces them.

I am a fan of both Tobey and Tom, but Tobey's movies have a special place in my heart, and I'm sure most of the people would say the same. While Tom's movies are all good and entertaining, Tobey's movies were art.

I loved how “physical” tobey’s Spider-Man was. Like doc oc was ready to get these hands!! .no gadgets no, no tech, no nothing..just pure will! This movie is just pure perfection.

The poetry of how goblin told Peter how the people of the city would relish in seeing him fail. Only for the very people to save spider man from falling. To carry him above their own heads and gently let him down as though they were angels letting him rest in heaven. Spider-Man is my favorite hero.

@@CloroxBleach-yb3ox the difference is, MCU Peter failed to save that cruiser. Stark did it for him. If that was in this universe, the people on that cruiser would have fuckin died, which is where Tobey's peter gets his strength. The difference isn't how much they can bench or whatever- its force of will that you cannot, must not and *will not* fail.
The funny thing here is that peter did hold his punches back a little. Doc ock is still a human and peter could probably easily knock his head off. But no excuses for that minute hand, dude threw that shit with full force lol.
This is the most memorable scenes in all of Spiderman movies. Not even Holland with all his high tech suit and nowadays CG can have memorable scene like this.
More so than the guy with the robot arm/tentacles and the super strong teenager who throws spider webs around from his wrists? It doesn't matter that the reactions of the citizens is surreal, it's what superhero films should aspire to, being inspiring. That's what that one did and what the MCU doesn't get these days.
even better, they embraced him, them holding him and carefully bringing him inside show how they accept him as a hero, he gave his alll to save their lives and they are grateful for having someone like him, even tough he's so young he has a heart of gold that leads him to protect others
I just realized This scene proves green goblin wrong. After everything he does for New York the citizens get the chance to save him and keep his identity safe.
The fact he passes out the exact moment he knows they are safe shows that he was desperately trying to stay conscious while everyone’s lives were on the line.
This scene is probably my favourite in entire Raimi series. Peter's absolute determination to stop the train and save the passengers, regardless of the risks to his own wellbeing show a fundamental understanding of what makes Spider-Man who he is.
You can see how honoured they were to behold his identity. You can feel the reverence and respect and love they have for him. What a deep scene. A privilege to watch!
This scene is so well choreographed not only the fight scenes feel fluid but there is a human touch to the word superhero. I love how well they made a human, mimic the movements and feel of a spider and you really feel his Spidey senses without the movie exposasing them to you. Every detail of this scene and these movies is impeccable.

@@crazyJman80 I think it’s the sound design. Raimi’s films sound AMAZING. It gives everything so much more weight. Eg: At the beginning when Ock throws the clock hand, that little metallic twang it does gives us a good feel for it’s weight and momentum.

Still to this day one of the best action scenes in any superhero film. The scene with the passengers holding him up like a Christ figure with Danny Elfman's beautiful score in the background as everyone's realizes that he's just a regular guy who gives up his own happiness to help others really plays into the movie's theme of sacrifice. Such a beautiful film. Unlike so many action films it's a story and an experience. It's not one or the other like a lot of blockbusters nowadays.
That little section of the film is what separates Spider-Man 2 from so many other superhero films. It wears its heart on its sleeve. That moment is entirely genuine and there’s no joke to undercut it. I miss this era of superhero films. It was admittedly hit and miss but every once and a while you’d get something like Spider-Man 2, X2 , or Dark Knight. Films that just broke the barriers of what the genre was capable of.
Can't believe the criticism over Tobey's ugly expression. Look at the most expert powerlifters, look at your self in the gym mirrors when you try to pick up your heaviest weight on your lasts reps. When you try to do something, REALLY TRY, you are so overwhelmed with pain, your expressions are looks of torture, teeth gritted, veins and tendons and you are putting your body, and your body shakes violently as your produce the maximum possible forces to pull, to it's failure point, til either you finish the rep, or you body fails. I watch that SHIT. and I think, DAMN. He's about to give any second, it's him or the webs. The damn train glass is breaking, this is PURE SOLID GRIP, you know his arms are immovable so he had to squash on the metal of the train. You can feel the SHEER PRESSURE THAT COULD SLICE HIM IN HALF, as Peter takes every pain he can get to make sure he doesn't FUCKIN. LET. GO. Each second is torture, and it'll never stop until it does, and harder and harder, his arms, wrists, fingers are burning, and he has to keep matching the INCREASING force on holding on. Yo lips literally look like that. It's the strain of making your body stretch to the point of no more. Him going unconcious feels so real. He really went the limit, and now he hasn't the basic instinct to even balance, and falls forward heading for a dive. And then hands reach for his chest, and you see people are grateful for his favour.
The only thing I didn’t like about this movie (with regards to Spider-Man) is that they put Toby in a fucking muscle suit. It looks so cheesy and stupid. To me this scene encapsulates the weight of his choices and Ben Parker’s “responsibility” speech. Peter does it because it is right, regardless of the effect being a hero has on his life. Also, he isn’t a god, a billionaire, a wizard, an astronaut, etc... he is just a kid from Brooklyn. When the people see that he is just one of them, they know that they have a responsibility to protect him. As he could have been one of their kids.

That’d already make him insanely strong, but since the spider was enhanced by experimentation and genetic modification at Oscorp, it’s probably the case that the spider was even stronger than that, thus making Spidey even stronger.

Everything about this was amazing.
Once his mask was damaged and inhibited his ability to focus on the situation, he took it off and focused solely on stopping the train. Nothing else mattered but saving those strangers. It showed that Peter was willing to sacrifice himself for others.
It also showed that he brought the community together. They saved him from falling and all agreed to keep his identity safe. This was one of the most human moments we have ever had in a superhero movie.
It's pretty symbolic on all fronts. I mean, what's a 🕸 for if not bringing people together, right 🤷

In the first Tobey one, the city turned against him because of Jamieson, but then got back in his side. Then obviously in the second one the city is still on his side. Even in the third, which I still think isn't a bad movie, they show how much the city relies on him. Garfield's Spider-Man never had this, they were on his side from the beginning, there was no fight to gain the trust of the city. And for Holland's Spider-Man, they're just now getting into the public being against him. I love the MCU, but sometimes they don't feel like art like all the movies that aren't tied to any huge universe. Tobey's Spider-Man 1 and 2 are still the best imo, and I don't think that'll ever change because of how emotional those two movies make you feel. It feels real. Same with why so many think the Dark Knight Trilogy are the best superhero movies, because they don't feel like superhero movies. The people feel real. Him getting powers as well as fighting Villains and becoming an experienced fighter pretty soon. But MCU takes everything slowly and steadily therefore I think it's more accurate. It is nearly impossible for a school kid to take all these big responsibilities into his hands without much experience. Afterall he is a kid. It's due to that reason why we are getting Spiderman No way home in the first place. If all these Spiderman had a similar take on them there was no point in rebooting them 3 times. Each time they wanted to have a different take on Spiderman. It's human nature to like and dislike something, it is impossible to make people love something universally.

The one review I watched of Garfield's made a good point in the second one when he's chasing rhino he doesn't just stop him. He tells him all these jokes and what not possibly causing people to die because rhino is just causing havoc driving all around. I don't hate on Garfield, I just think he didn't have a great script to work with. And Tom's, he just doesn't feel like his own hero yet. He's constantly in Tony's shadow. I get different takes, and I'm all for them, but imo Tobey has still been the definitive version of the character. Even if he doesn't have all the quips and mechanical web shooters, the heart of the character is there in his performance.
@@unnirajac8617 the thing with the MCU Tom's version is he's been Spider-Man for a bit by the time we see him. I almost guarantee if we met him in when he first got bit it would be almost very similar to Andrew and Tobey's Spider-Mans being thrust into action. That's how it is tho, almost as soon as Uncle Ben dies Peter makes that choice to use his power for good. That's how selfless he is. He immediately realizes that's what he's meant to do. So if we would have met Tom around uncle Ben's death, I think it probably would have came off as fast like you mentioned for how you think Tobey's felt. Spider-Man isn't like Batman who took years to train himself. Spidey makes it up on the fly. And I wouldn't say Tobey is super experienced in the beginning. I mean he gets his ass kicked by Goblin at the end of the first. He does become experienced by the second one for sure tho, cuz I think they say it's been 2 years that happened in between the two movies. To sum things up tho I'm just happy it seems that fans of all versions are getting to see the ones they love the most again (hopefully/almost certainly). It's a really cool thing marvel is doing.

Two things that made this scene one of the most powerful and emotional:
a) It really shows that even superheroes has limits. You can see that SpiderMan literally just used his webs and body strength to stop the train.
b) The fact that one of the passengers said, “He’s just a kid; not older than my son.” They all thought that SpiderMan is a trained professional or martial artist. But in reality, he is just your average pizza guy who is still studying for his degree.

My favorite part is that everyone saw his face, but nobody, not A SINGLE PERSON revealed his identity. Sure, they didn't know him personally or his name, but they kept his face hidden. Spiderman saved the people of New York, and they immediately paid him back.
This scene has more heart than 90% of superhero movies made since this one.
The MCU is literally goverbment propganda about how only rich elites and people who work for the military industrial complex are allowed to be heroes. The Sam Raimi trilogy is about how anyone can be a hero. They're basically polar opposites of each other. Even MCU Spiderman can't be a hero until he gets his AI-powered super suit from NATO.
What i love about the scene is it shows people of all different ages and backgrounds working together to try and help. Kinda feels like blockbuster movies often used to reflect a more unified society

The fact he doesn't care to look good, that he just wants to look like he's putting his absolute ALL into it, THAT is what makes good acting. I personally spend a lot of time and have so in my lifetime, forcing. Stretching out my muscles to the absolute sheer limit of ripping and failing me. I know the amount of willpower that would go into holding onto those webs and it requires an absolute conviction from within the deepest parts of your soul. He WANTED to stop that train for real, he wanted to really be Spiderman really putting his all.

This scene is iconic, still holds up so well and is arguably the greatest fight scene in any super hero movie. It’s not the fight with Doc Oc that makes it great, it’s the moment where he saves the citizens putting literally everything into stopping that train. Then it culminates with the people swearing to keep his identity a secret and protect him with their lives. Bravo Rami
I agree, I don't love the fight sequence itself that much, it's fine just not my favorite ever. I actually like the vibe of the final confrontation more than this one, although it's not a very long with the action. The climbing fight when he snatches Aunt May is another more interesting one IMO.

This scene is so powerful. The whole movie Peter is having an identity crisis. It destroys him psychologically. But the smiling faces of the people looking at him without his mask, the very people he just saved, IS the payoff of the movie. He finally realizes that its ok to be Spider-Man. That people need him. Depend on him with their lives. With great power comes great responsibility. His identity is no longer in question to himself.

When I was reading comics and graphic novels, my older relatives could not relate to them and Sam Raimi knew he had to make Spiderman for everyone, not just comic book fans. The scene with the train passengers promising to keep Spidey's secret always get me because through the whole movie up to this point nothing was going right in Peter's life. And while most people of New York were already seeing Spider-man as a hero, they never knew that the person behind the mask was a unassuming young man essentially down on his luck and struggling to keep his life together. So when he saves everyone on the train and they see his face, its Peter Parker that saved them, not Spider-man. Peter for once finally got the recognition he deserved and that always makes me tear up.
Man I remember years ago when I was reading Spiderman fanfiction based off of these movies. There was one that I think was written before SP3 since Harry as the Green Goblin was the bad guy. Anyways Harry worked to derail Peter and MJ's wedding plans and while looking for a replacement vendor for something or other Peter inadvertently found one of the people from the train and didn't realize it and they all came together to make the wedding work as a thank you for him saving them. It wasn't until it was all over that Peter even found out who everyone that helped him was

That was in the comics right? Because Peter was a high school senior in Spider-Man 1, which makes him 18. And in Spider-Man 2 he was 21.
I believe the reason seeing a 15-year old kid putting his body on the line to save a bunch of strangers is so weird to us is because of the time difference. Back when the comics were published the rough patch for life through which people turn into adults was between fourteen to seventeen, now It's eighteen to twenty five.

I grew up in NYC so whenever I use to take the 4 train (the one that’s above ground) I use to go to the front of the train and pretend like I was the one stopping the train and the adults use to clap sometimes. It’s the little things that make our childhood wholesome. A kid always remembers !

Other than the dad jokes Tobey is the best incarnation of the character imo. He has good quips in the PS2 game though so I think it was just a choice of writing.

I think it's because in this moment 99% of people would care more about making it out alive rather than taking video, the ones at the front anyway. The ones in the back compartments who have already seen Spider-Man break several windows and see him carried to the back however would more than likely not be so secretive about it, especially once the train is stopped and danger has passed

What I love about this scene is that it perfectly contradicts what Goblin told Peter in the first movie that everyone says was “always right” about how the community would relish in seeing Spider-Man fail, fall and die trying. You can see in this scene that Peter remembers this but it still doesn’t matter to him, he is Spider-Man and Spider-Man is a hero to the end. So as he loses consciousness he thinks that he’s failed, he knows that he is about to die trying to save these people and he falls. But as he falls he is lifted back up by the people that he saved. This proved Goblin wrong and truly showed Peter what Spider-Man represents to New York

The scene when he fainted and everyone carries him and gently lays him down is one of the most heartwarming scenes literally, it makes me so emotional. When I was a kid I cried in this scene.
The close up shot around 6:03 seems symbolicly personal to me, it showed that he is still a human with limitation and vulnerability. Hes been through a lot of shit and never been personally thanked (due to the secrecy reason obv), but this scene really show how much he meant for the community. I dont think MCU has ever done a scene as powerful as this, simple yet very heartwarming.

This movie captured one of Peter Parker’s biggest conflicts, living two lives. Peter Parker is an interesting character for a couple reasons, one of them being his struggles of trying to be two different people; a student/an average adult (depends on the time) and a superhero. And this movie showcases its not easy to live two different lives, something Peter Parker has always had to deal with.
Furthermore, this movie also captured the “with great power, comes great responsibility” message, as in his absence, chaos would’ve happened, but when he returned, he saved the day!
No Way Home was fantastic, but I think Spider-Man 2 takes the cake as the best Spider-Man and best Marvel movie

The Spirit of New York
This Spidey is the best because he made his own suit, he didn’t need Tony Stark’s help. Every hero fight in all three films is him going hand to hand using his own devices, his own strength, no high tech stuff. It don’t get more authentic than that.
It's ok man. Look how Tom and Andrew's spidey shocked for knowing that Toby's web came from inside him.
My favorite thing about these particular Spider Man movies is the constant theme of everyday heroes. Peter is almost never the only one being heroic. You have the people in this scene catching him, keeping his identity secret, and putting themselves between him and Doc Ock. There's the scene with him vs Goblin on the bridge where he's trying to save both Mary Jane and a car full of people, and Goblin is attacking him, and people on the bridge start throwing stuff at Goblin to get him off Peter. There's the scene where he rushes into a burning building to save a child without his powers and the floor collapses under him, and the little girl tries to help him up despite being like a toddler. There's a scene during a fight where a couple women are about to get crushed by falling debris and a random guy grabs them and pulls them out of the way.
The movies are just full of it, and I love it. Because even if Peter feels like it is, the weight of the entire world is never put on his shoulders. Everyone around him is helping and being heroic in their own small ways. And it's a cool message that everyone doesn't just stand around waiting for the masked hero to save everyone, they go out of their way to save each other as well.
One of the exemplary reasons I love this trilogy to death apart from it being about my favorite superhero. A deeply meaningful theme that you don’t see in modern cinema often

The people on the train, they were amazing. Showed that's there's good in people.
They saved him from falling, carefully lowered him, promised that they wouldn't tell anyone what he looked like and guarded him with their life. You can see their scared faces, they knew that Doc Ock can tear them in half in the blink of an eye. Yet, they stood up, to insurmountable odds- and faced their fears to do what they believed in. That's the people Spiderman inspires.

I guess from a cinematic perspective, when the mask comes off, it wasn't just Spiderman, it was also Peter Parker. Who he is truly all comes together, the bravery and righteousness of Spider-Man and the Strength and Heart of Peter. Instead of fighting both sides of his life, He embraces them.

I just realized This scene proves green goblin wrong. After everything he does for New York the citizens get the chance to save him and keep his identity safe.
The fact he passes out the exact moment he knows they are safe shows that he was desperately trying to stay conscious while everyone’s lives were on the line.
This scene is probably my favourite in entire Raimi series. Peter's absolute determination to stop the train and save the passengers, regardless of the risks to his own wellbeing show a fundamental understanding of what makes Spider-Man who he is.

This scene is so well choreographed not only the fight scenes feel fluid but there is a human touch to the word superhero. People discovering who spiderman is and relating it that it's just a kid no different from any of us speaks volume and it further strengthened the bond between the people and spiderman making him quite literally friendly neighborhood Spiderman
I love how well they made a human, mimic the movements and feel of a spider and you really feel his Spidey senses without the movie exposasing them to you.
Every detail of this scene and these movies is impeccable.

@@theevilloafers5235 it’s my opinion, I’m not trying to slander Marc, he did a decent job with the first Amazing Spider-Man movie. But the sequel was bad because of Sony messing up the movies. The sequel was all over the place with adding too many villains. As much as I liked the first Amazing Spider-Man, Sony ruined the series.
Still to this day one of the best action scenes in any superhero film. The scene with the passengers holding him up like a Christ figure with Danny Elfman's beautiful score in the background as everyone's realizes that he's just a regular guy who gives up his own happiness to help others really plays into the movie's theme of sacrifice. Such a beautiful film. Unlike so many action films it's a story and an experience. It's not one or the other like a lot of blockbusters nowadays.
That little section of the film is what separates Spider-Man 2 from so many other superhero films. It wears its heart on its sleeve. That moment is entirely genuine and there’s no joke to undercut it. I miss this era of superhero films. It was admittedly hit and miss but every once and a while you’d get something like Spider-Man 2, X2 , or Dark Knight. Films that just broke the barriers of what the genre was capable of.

Can't believe the criticism over Tobey's ugly expression.
Look at the most expert powerlifters, look at your self in the gym mirrors when you try to pick up your heaviest weight on your lasts reps. When you try to do something, REALLY TRY, you are so overwhelmed with pain, your expressions are looks of torture, teeth gritted, veins and tendons and you are putting your body, and your body shakes violently as your produce the maximum possible forces to pull, to it's failure point, til either you finish the rep, or you body fails.
I watch that SHIT. and I think, DAMN. He's about to give any second, it's him or the webs. The damn train glass is breaking, this is PURE SOLID GRIP, you know his arms are immovable so he had to squash on the metal of the train. You can feel the SHEER PRESSURE THAT COULD SLICE HIM IN HALF, as Peter takes every pain he can get to make sure he doesn't FUCKIN. LET. GO. Each second is torture, and it'll never stop until it does, and harder and harder, his arms, wrists, fingers are burning, and he has to keep matching the INCREASING force on holding on.
Yo lips literally look like that. It's the strain of making your body stretch to the point of no more.
Him going unconcious feels so real. He really went the limit, and now he hasn't the basic instinct to even balance, and falls forward heading for a dive. And then hands reach for his chest, and you see people are grateful for his favour.
The only thing I didn’t like about this movie (with regards to Spider-Man) is that they put Toby in a fucking muscle suit. It looks so cheesy and stupid.
To me this scene encapsulates the weight of his choices and Ben Parker’s “responsibility” speech. Peter does it because it is right, regardless of the effect being a hero has on his life. Also, he isn’t a god, a billionaire, a wizard, an astronaut, etc... he is just a kid from Brooklyn. When the people see that he is just one of them, they know that they have a responsibility to protect him. As he could have been one of their kids.

That’d already make him insanely strong, but since the spider was enhanced by experimentation and genetic modification at Oscorp, it’s probably the case that the spider was even stronger than that, thus making Spidey even stronger.
