Actually, is there something better in the Edge TX than flysky firmware ? I'v been using fs-i6, fs-i10, pl18 for years and never have such a simple and straighforward UI in TX. If Edge TX comes from OpenTX somehow, then I must say, Open TX was even worse in difficulty and complexity meaning than Graupner firmware was. Maybe some list of better features/benefits as well as Edge TX supported PL18 accessories should help.
Edge tx is definitely not easier to get to grips with than the stock flysky firmware but far more powerful, 32ch support, unlimited amount of customisation, you can have an actual pic of your own RC as the model icon, it supports AFHDS3 and a huge list of other protocols, allows remapping of any button switch or dial to any function, full logic support for making any function react to any other functions and give an output it really is fantastic but it does have a learning curve but so rewarding if you take the time to learn what it can do.
Hey Craig, You are like the only source of info on PL18, probably representing the dying user base ;). Few questions: - did you try FRM302 on EdgeTX? Frm303 is still very pricey to able to use EdgeTx with my too many Ftr16s - is stock firmware working flawlessly on modded PL18 after reverting? I come from planes, any actual software hiccup is very unwelcome compared to cars. Same worry goes for EdgeTx, even if it is "official". - now less chance for answer, but would any ELRS nano bay module work on EDGE Tx... or on stock firmware to good measure.
Elrs should work in stock firmware but the module would have to support sbus/ppm or the likes for the pl18 to communicate with it, stock firmware wouldn't work correctly on modded pl18 no sound available after the mod but stock should still run. Frm 302 will work fine on edge tx
Hi, I bought the parts myself from an electronics store and watched your video when I soldered the new chip. works fine with Elr's module but would like a module that uses the built in antennas. Thanks
Really I've been fixing electronics for years lol I even say in the vid I know exactly how to do it I just couldn't be bothered to use the reflow hot air to remove the chip or do you mean because you don't see me use flux ? I'm actually dipping the soldering tip in flux each time it's off screen that why the solder doesn't stick together when the chip is removed :) anyhow it works perfectly and its not a soldering guide it's just showing what it takes to upgrade the memory, rtc battery and redirect the sound.
@@WTFRCCars I guess I'm just nitpicking and giving you a hard time. If I looked into a mirror I'm certain I'd see stuff I'd nitpick about myself. Anyway, you got the job done and didn't have to pay someone else to do it. That's definitely a win so I'll just shut up now 🙂
@@MrSpaz12 Editing a video of yourself and putting it online is like looking in a mirror. So if he doesn't see what's disturbing, it's a shame. Don't worry, you're not the only one who tensed up in front of the video 😂 I even screamed alone at home "OMG!! Clean that damn tip!" But it sure is easy to criticize. Because of your comment I figured since I'm here I might as well watch the video again. Ugh. The knife to release the ribbon cables AAAHHHH!! 😮 But I did just hear a no-no that I didn't last time. Must have had the volume pretty low and missed him blowing on the solder to cool it off on both the battery and the chip. No doubt because I'm sure his fingers got pretty darn hot from not using anything (well, almost anything) other than his fingers. Anyway blowing on those freshly soldered joints makes for a cold weld and prone to failure. Ask me how I know 🤔
Hi, do you have any information on where to find the upgrade kit?
Unfortunately I have never found the kit for sale but you can get all the parts mem chip, battery and wire
Will the Flysky firmware work with the new memory chip, or are you locked into EdgeTX after this mod?
You should be fine to flash back you just would most likely not see any of the extra memory :)
Ok, thanks

Hi Thanks again for great video. Where can I buy the kit?
I'm still trying to get the link and price when I do I'll add it to the description :)

Not sure if there is an easy way to re direct to the internal antenna but since the original module uses it there should be a way
Thanks
You should definitely watch a few soldering tutorials before doing this again.
