For those that may be skeptical, I am currently doing EMDR and have been for 6 months. It has saved my life; literally. I had so much trauma in my life from repeated sexual abuse as a child and then vicarious trauma from over a decade in Law Enforcement. Before EMDR I would have constant thoughts of suicide and would have an extremely short temper. I realized that I never managed my PTSD for all the things I had seen and experienced. I’ll say it again. EMDR saved my life.

Unfortunately I cannot answer all of these questions to the degree of specificity that your therapist can and I encourage you to speak with them in depth about these questions! But, for some answers; you and your therapist will pick which memory to start with, it does not have to be from childhood, if you cannot think of the 'worst' part of the 'movie,' that is no problem- you would then start wherever you can, and when you 'go with it,' that basically means that you are following whatever train of thought you are on. I enjoyed the questions that were asked, as well as the responses that was given. Before coming to this video I did not understand the synopsis of what EMDR is. With the help of this video I got to understand the viewpoint of EMDR. Thank You both
Great production and explanation here. EMDR is such a great treatment, as a therapist here in the U.K. I have seen some great benefits for my clients. Working with difficult memories, traumatic events, anxiety and other issues it’s a helpful modality to support clients at many junctions and situations in life. Such a privilege to use this skill.
Thank you for this, I've just found out EDMR is my next step in therapy and a video like this is super helpful, and has made me more hopeful rather than sceptical. Fingers crossed 🤞
The most important part is making sure the client is comfortable and feels safe enough to dive back into the exact moment that traumatised them. If the trauma is so strong to the point where replaying it causes more harm than good, then this will never work. I’m a life coach and I’ve helped clients with trauma, the most important thing is to provide a safe place to explore at a safe pace. 🙏🏾
I reached out to a group today about this. I’ve been in CBT multiple times for multiple things in my life. This is the only thing I know to try now. My depression as anxiety are getting worse. I almost feel like I’m Bipolar. I hope it helps
The book “The Body Keeps The Score” by Bessel van der Kolk talks about treating his patients that brought great results. It sounds almost too good to be true and I realize it isn’t as simple as “moving your eyes around” there’s more involved. But it’s wonderful people are resolving their painful experiences this way!
Hey there, I've been given the option of EMDR therapy in the future, and just wanted to say thank you for putting out such easily understood information.
I do EMDR in conjunction with mantra based meditation and deep breathing. I find this a completely relaxing experience which gives me a levelheadedness and tranquility I haven't found in any other way.
I used do have to think about it, like really think about the painful moments, and then my therapist would move her fingers side to side and i would follow while thinking about it, and i was one of the first to use the bomb tecnice i think its called, which i did all of the above and i tapped my knees on both sides, always got so tired after it but it was worth it
Sadly more therapists don't offer this because the course costs $1500 to $2000 usd and is about six days to complete. This guy teaches it perfectly in eleven minutes for free! Promote him and save a life
Fascinating! I noted that EMDR is aLso very similar to the studies and exercises researched by Dr Caroline Leaf and her 40 year proven track record with a program designed by her. I like his explanation by I prefer the science which attempts to answer the qestionof why. Thank you both
I hope my comment didnt make you feel uncomfortable in any way. Im sure you know your a good looking man but I can see that you are quite passionate about your work. Your quite articulate, and I just have a feeling, you will do well in healing many people.
You typically start with the least traumatic even and move up to the most. It works really well, with complex/multiple events as well. Warmly, Dr. Lukin
I tried EMDR 23 years ago to help deal with childhood trauma. No success. Not effective at all. To me it seemed like a useless gimmicky therapy tool. Fast forward 23 years where my therapist tried it on me - totally different reaction! Amazing! Would anyone care to suggest why it worked on me last week and not 23 yearsago when I was 42 years old, desperately attempting to heal myself?
If the trauma was too painful for you to revisit safely, or if you didn’t feel safe with the therapist, it wouldn’t work. My guess would be that you processed the trauma bit in the meantime and it became safer to fully dive into, and/or you feel safer with your current therapist.
My memory closes it self down with I have trauma I dont know how this will work for me but I'm certainly ready to give it ago. EFT TAPPING has worked wonders for me.
My therapist agian recommended this therapy he told me to look at VA.Gov because the VA stays on top of the most current treatments for PTSD and trauma. I'm 65 I guess I thought I just had to live with the trauma fall out.now I am looking into this. Thanks for the video
I will try this.. hopefully it will help me.. my life has come to a standstill after the death of my father from covid in the Delta wave of the pandemic when everyone was locked down & no one could come help us.. the hospital wouldn’t let us visit and my father was cremated alone.. no funeral, no visits from family afterward.. everyone was terrified of covid.. I had to manage everything alone.. I put my emotions aside & functioned coz there was no time to grieve & no one to grieve with but now am unable to come back to normal.. my body is still stuck in that crisis mode
My twin sister just died of cancer in the summer, but on top of it nobody told me. I found her obituary online. So feelings of shame and blame as the scapegoat are reappearing. In addition, I was just diagnosed with cancer also, of an unknown primary. I haven't started treatment yet because they are trying to find out the primary. I'm getting flashbacks of all the traumatic things that have happened in my life. It's like a constant slideshow all day long. I feel so helpless and alone. I am being referred to a psychiatrist at the cancer clinic but need something now. If anyone knows an app or a video that helped them, please let me know!
I am so sorry to hear about your struggles. The best place to find an EMDR therapist is on emdria.org. Just put in your zip code and you should be able to find someone quickly. Hang in there, Dr. Lukin
Sorry to hear that darling. Have you looked into EFT Tapping or Matrix Reimprinting by Karl Dawson? I am getting great results from them. You can even do them yourself without a therapist, especially if you are having flashbacks which I think is helpful because some people can't remember their trauma or scary events. But first start taking vitamins and minerals to help your brain. High dose EPA (omega 3) + VSL3 probiotics + vitamin B Complex was such a life saver for me. I felt a different person in less than 2 weeks and believe me I was in a state almost psychotic. If you need more info please let me know. Take one day at a time. The real cause of cancer is stress. So don't feed it by staying stressed. Help yourself. Your mind is so powerful that you can heal yourself by the power of your mind. Deny the cancer and focus on anything positive. I found dancing very helpful throughout the lockdown 👍
The Body Keeps The Score says that EMDR is more suited for adult onset trauma...not the stuff imprinted from early childhood. Is that true because Van Der Kolk's research points in that direction. Cheers
Can emdr work for those with Aphantasia who cannot visualize? I see black every time I close my eyes and I’m unable to visualize or create a movie/images in my head. My therapist tried using this technique and I found myself frustrated. Do you have any suggestions on how this technique could work for me?
That does sound challenging. Perhaps if the focus is redirected towards the feelings and bodily sensations that accompany the memory rather than the image(s), you may find more success in working through painful life events.
I have that same problem. It is very frustrating. Also doing the 'safe place' or 'visualizing a safe to put the flashbacks in' doesn't really work for me because I can't make myself visualize it consciously. I'm autistic, too. I don't know if that makes a difference. I want to try emdr for my cptsd but am scared that it won't work because of that.
@@lukincenter Thank you. I will try this. I'm currently in trauma confrontation therapy and interested in EMDR technique. I will ask my therapist if she is trained in it.
EMDR seems like it's for actual traumatic events (war, rape, abuse, etc.). Can it help with generalized clinical depression, hopelessness, disassociation, and how?
Is anyone's brain wired as differently as mine? The side-to-side eye movements do not work for me. But what finally DID work was up-and-down movements. Anyone else experience this? Thanks.
Do you wear contacts? I do, and my eyes are really sensitive.. it feels almost like I’m flexing a muscle behind my eyes when moving them back and forth. Up and down movements were easier for me too.
What I believe is important too. If our brain decides to get rid of a traumatic memory so we could lead a somewhat normal life, we ort not dredge up the shit and suffer through it again. Life is really about moving on. Going forward, not backwards. P
Can EMDR be done virtually? I am in the process of starting this and I spoke with a therapist today that says she can do it virtually do you recommend that?
yes, it can. I am not aware of any research that differentiates between in person and telehealth at this time, but clinicians have been able to adapt it to virtual sessions. Hope this helps, Dr. Lukin.
Hi Kaitlin. Yes, there are some modifications that are made for that. You can call me directly at (917) 903-1901 to discuss further. Alternatively, you can go to emdria.org to search for other providers.

Hi I've come to this video because I've just finally got the funding for emdr, I'm 43 and living/surviving with PTSD and EUPD due to a prolonged period of sexual abuse in my childhood. I haven't started the emdr yet and I'm not really sure what my question too you all is but I'm scared and not sure what to expect and even more scared it won't work. So if anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. ❤
hey , I have an anxiety disorder because I am scared to have an anxiety attack again. So i am scared to be scared… it’s sounding silly but to me it’s like the death is hunting me. Will this therapy help?
I was hazed to join a fraternity.. now im about to get out of the fraternity for trauma, regret, and spiritual reasons.. i think its called a trauma bond.. can EMDR or CBT help with trauma bonds and anxiety or depression?? I have no history of trauma before i joined the fraternity..
Does this work for people with CPTSD? E.g., People who have been suppressed by authorities, abused for long time periods or manipulated in a subtle way and eventually lost a lot in their life? I’m asking because there might not be a specific “traumatic event”, but sure there’s a great sense of hurt, pain, fear and trauma.
I wonder if in our minds, that we are trying to engage both sides of our brain by scanning our eyes from side to side. It would make sense that the body would be calling on all its faculties to solve problems. I often see people scan back and forth not really looking at any thing when in deep thought. I could almost guess at the dialogue between thoughts, connecting the dots from all centers of the brain that hold all categories of experienceses to draw the most clear picture from.
@@lukincenter When we can access some things that sensory receptors pick up unconsciously during hypnosis, but not as much when asked to recount, it seems logic in my mind, that there is a lot more to pick from under the surface of the experience. I understand that we wouldnt be able to see the world exactly as it is, else, we would be staring into atoms, vs, objects. It would be like a fish dodging the very water it lives in. Quite a shock it would be if our eyes could see at an atomic level. If we could, I'm guessing we wouldnt find ourselves to be that different. That kind of leaves me to think of what use, the egoic self would serve. Not that it "serves" us now.
What if during the process when they ask how disturbing does it feel, you don't feel it being disturbing or don't know how to number it on the scale of how disturbing it is. Idk if that's numbness on my end or I'm over it, but I do still am affected by it in the present. Any thoughts?
That is something that would be addressed with the therapist and a conversation would happen exploring if there is something "blocking" those feelings, or if there truly are no disturbances associated with the memory anymore.

I enjoyed the questions that were asked, as well as the responses that was given. Before coming to this video I did not understand the synopsis of what EMDR is. With the help of this video I got to understand the viewpoint of EMDR. Thank You both
I am glad it was helpful
I looked into this cause my therapist thought about trying this and art
Great production and explanation here. EMDR is such a great treatment, as a therapist here in the U.K. I have seen some great benefits for my clients. Working with difficult memories, traumatic events, anxiety and other issues it’s a helpful modality to support clients at many junctions and situations in life. Such a privilege to use this skill.
Glad to hear; I agree with you it is a great approach
My new therapist recommended this and trauma therapy today I'm excited to get started!
Delighted to have gained a fresh understanding about what EMDR is, and what a session entails. Phenomenal video
Thank you! Dr. Lukin
Thank you for this, I've just found out EDMR is my next step in therapy and a video like this is super helpful, and has made me more hopeful rather than sceptical. Fingers crossed 🤞
Happy to hear it was helpful! Dr. Lukin
I could not heal from anything with this man. I’d be constantly trying to pull my mind out of the gutter
😂
I just want to say please make more videos including him...
Did it?
The book “The Body Keeps The Score” by Bessel van der Kolk talks about treating his patients that brought great results. It sounds almost too good to be true and I realize it isn’t as simple as “moving your eyes around” there’s more involved. But it’s wonderful people are resolving their painful experiences this way!
That book is also great! EMDR is just another way to work through trauma.
He looks like he is seconds away from ripping his shirt.
Oh the horror....😅😂😅😂😅😂I'll be right here waiting can we request a shirtless therapy version? 😁😁😁
Clark Kent and Lex Luther having a civil discussion. This is a good day.
And here we have Clark Kent. The superman of PTSD🙂
My same thoughts
I dont see the "S" through his shirt . 😂
Thank you for this video and giving testimony to a healing modality that actually works!! It was life changing for me!!!
I am glad! Dr. Lukin
Great inteeview. The association with REM sleep was something I never heard mentioned before. Also hope you are keeping well during this time.
My psychiatrist recommended this to me today, this is very informative!
Hope you give this a go!
Hey there, I've been given the option of EMDR therapy in the future, and just wanted to say thank you for putting out such easily understood information.
Glad it was helpful. Dr. Lukin
I do EMDR in conjunction with mantra based meditation and deep breathing. I find this a completely relaxing experience which gives me a levelheadedness and tranquility I haven't found in any other way.
I’ve been traumatized by his hawtness 🔥
i feel safe at this moment, i let go of control, i let go of fear, i let go of my past.....
i relax my mind and be gratitude....
I started EMDR therapy today. It happened just as this guy describes. Not a lot of talking and reporting the emotion or feeling. (2/21)
Fintan, did you find the initial session helpful?
Yes, I think I did. I am hopeful.
@@fintan3563 Great to hear! Dr. Lukin
If he's my therapist our therapeautic relationship would soon be come one sided romance...
Promote him and save a life
Thank you for the kind words. Dr. Lukin
He should have not worn that shirt, I'll have to watch the video again because I couldn't focus on the Q&A. Thanks hunk 🤣
Fascinating! I noted that EMDR is aLso very similar to the studies and exercises researched by Dr Caroline Leaf and her 40 year proven track record with a program designed by her. I like his explanation by I prefer the science which attempts to answer the qestionof why. Thank you both
Why is his shirt so tight? This is a positive I can bring into my trauma process.
I found this very helpful as a psychology student! Thanks for the excellent video
I am very glad. Dr. Lukin
I hope my comment didnt make you feel uncomfortable in any way. Im sure you know your a good looking man but I can see that you are quite passionate about your work. Your quite articulate, and I just have a feeling, you will do well in healing many people.
EMDR has been suggested for me- this actually makes me more scared, which is probably not necessarily a bad thing.
EMDR helps with painful events and trauma so that some discomfort is part of the journey. Dr. Lukin
Good video to share with clients, thanks!
Thank you!
Vet helpful, thank you. How fire EMDR work with complex trauma and/or multiple events? Do you start with the most traumatic or the least?
This type of therapy, I imagine, would be very helpful to you. Dr. Lukin
Either his shirt is too small or hes too big for his shirt. Either way it fits.
Now what was the video about?
Omg i believe he was my therapist at 5th ave clinic . he was very good got me through so much.
I don't know why this works, and I don't know how it works, but I DO know that it DOES work.
How many hours can be done in one day?
There is no limit but one’s ability to sit with emotion
All i could do was focus on his biceps and keep imagining him unclothed. That shirt is TIGHT
Same, a bit annoying tbh.
The Body Keeps The Score says that EMDR is more suited for adult onset trauma...not the stuff imprinted from early childhood. Is that true because Van Der Kolk's research points in that direction. Cheers
It seems to me that thinking about the painful event, but not feeling expected to verbalize it would work. Your thoughts
Can I ask, do you use the eye movement, and/or bilateral stimulation during the first session, or does it take later sessions?
It takes place during the session
Would anyone know if this could even help if you can’t recall your past painful event?
Yes, definitely.
Hello Sir! Does it help with Dissociation? Depersonalization to be exact.
Yes, a modified approach can help
@@Felosial85 one way is to focus on the body sensations, rather than visualizations. It may be worth a try. Dr. Lukin
@@lukincenter Thank you. I will try this. I'm currently in trauma confrontation therapy and interested in EMDR technique. I will ask my therapist if she is trained in it.
@@Felosial85 Great!
EMDR seems like it's for actual traumatic events (war, rape, abuse, etc.). Can it help with generalized clinical depression, hopelessness, disassociation, and how?
Usually people start with CBT for those issues.
the psychotherapist looks like a calvin klein model! Damn! :)
Lukin.
What about brief memories?
How do you find a good doctor who does this ?
Please call us at 916-903-1901 to discuss further

Is it hard to do EMDR through video visits?
Hi Kaitlin. Yes, there are some modifications that are made for that. You can call me directly at (917) 903-1901 to discuss further. Alternatively, you can go to emdria.org to search for other providers.
@@lukincenter Thanks. My new therapist does EMDR, and she has been doing it remotely during the whole pandemic. We are not sure yet whether we will use EMDR for my treatment.
@@kaitlinkimberling8691 Great! happy to hear!
Why when i do eye movements after some time in same day or later my whole body or parts automatically shakes with out my control or will. It is strange for me. Any body knows the reason?
Hi I've come to this video because I've just finally got the funding for emdr, I'm 43 and living/surviving with PTSD and EUPD due to a prolonged period of sexual abuse in my childhood. I haven't started the emdr yet and I'm not really sure what my question too you all is but I'm scared and not sure what to expect and even more scared it won't work. So if anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. ❤
When Lex Luther and Clark Kent go into therapy! 😂😂😂😂😂

hey , I have an anxiety disorder because I am scared to have an anxiety attack again. So i am scared to be scared… it’s sounding silly but to me it’s like the death is hunting me. Will this therapy help?
Sorry it hear. For something like that, called panic disorder, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), works well
Is this good for severe anxiety after concussion this is really effecting my life please help.
Usually CBT is suggested for anxiety; this treatment is really more for trauma/painful events
@@lukincenter I have tried cbt not much of improvement will this help me emdr
Can EMDR help someone who suffers from very low self-esteem?
If there is trauma related to it
I was hazed to join a fraternity.. now im about to get out of the fraternity for trauma, regret, and spiritual reasons.. i think its called a trauma bond.. can EMDR or CBT help with trauma bonds and anxiety or depression?? I have no history of trauma before i joined the fraternity..
Yes, EMDR can definitely be a tool to help with trauma
Loved it❤️❤️❤️
yes i need to do this myself. i made a time i just need to go there
Does this work for people with CPTSD? E.g., People who have been suppressed by authorities, abused for long time periods or manipulated in a subtle way and eventually lost a lot in their life? I’m asking because there might not be a specific “traumatic event”, but sure there’s a great sense of hurt, pain, fear and trauma.
Yes, it definitely does help for that as well. You can call us at (917) 903-1901 or go to emdria website to find a provider in your area.
@@lukincenter thank you
I wonder if in our minds, that we are trying to engage both sides of our brain by scanning our eyes from side to side.
Hi Jen. The neurobiological underpinnings are still being explored, so you may be correct.
All these comments about how nice his body is and my gay ass didn't even notice how ripped he was untill people pointed it out😭🤣🤣
Haha same
A lot of my memories i can’t remember. Many of them i can though.
I don't want to remember.
He's got a nice ches-- I mean top. Top.
@@lukincenter I appreciate the insight thanks so much!
