NHA guest speaker Richard René Silvin discusses his book, The Life & Work of Addison Mizner. René Silvin describes the life of the elusive society architect, Addison Mizner. He begins with his childhood and covers his disparate and little known early life. The presentation will discuss Mizner's arrival in Palm Beach in 1918 and the reasons for his success, while he was sponsored by his mentor and financier, Paris Singer, when Singer built Palm Beach's Everglades Club in 1919.
Through pictures and story-telling the presentation follows the various influential people in Mizner's life. Silvin focuses on several magnificent houses including the most important ones, like El Mirasol, Casa Benditta, and Playa Riente, many of which were destroyed in the 1950's and 1960's. He will also reveal details about their owners.
This lecture is in collaboration with Nantucket Preservation Trust.

Well, bravo. This was very satisfying and I think I could listen to Mr. Silvin talk about grass growing.
