I would love to say that the best thing about being Indian is that: There's a whole lot of us who watch American movies and often pick up the accent, slang, etc. On the other hand, we follow British style for spelling practices and inevitably grasp a lot of British words. So while speaking, we end up mixing the two into what is called Indian English. Thus, we don't find it as difficult to understand both while reading American or British texts.
Id say thats kind pf common for most ex colonies originapy learning english fron britain but due to holywoods prominence over decades these coubtries added americanisms to how they use english which has led to the diversification of english as a language

I was taught English by British people, I speak in an American accent because I live in the US. I never did understand why you call scones biscuits. Edit: for context I started learning English before I moved to the US and I moved to the US I didn’t have enough time to develop an English accent so I speak in an American accent using English words.

As I've run into many people including my college BFF who know the word to read it, but don't pronounce it correctly (row as in fight rhymes with cow rather than go.)

my limited research american biscuits and English scones are sister pastries (similar ingredients and baking methods.) Gravy is a sauce made with meat drippings (or the equivalent for non-meat eaters and sweet varieties) mixed with a liquid,normally a stock but can be cream which can lead to different colors and if you don't remove all the meat first from the pan before making gravy/ add back some meat, seasonings, and aromatics can be why it has chucks in it
@@Ellie_2007 biscuits and gravy a southern special is made with chucks of sausage, mushroom gravy has pieces of mushroom in it, and I personally have made giblet gravy which has both chicken giblets (liver, kidney, stuff like that) and hard boiled eggs pieces mixed in. Now that’s a well read book. I know most like keeping books pristine but it’s always nice seeing those books that are falling apart because the reader simply couldn’t put it down. I read Percy Jackson growing up and all my original series books (except The Last Olympian which is a hardcover) are bent, faded, and even just slightly torn (taped up though to make them whole again). Anyway, it’s just always nice seeing a well read book.
I read the books in like fifth grade and seriously thought lines like this were metaphors, and then I used them in my summer reading assignment while the teacher just stared at me like "what is wrong with you?"

This gave me a flashback to when I read the 4th one and stumbled upon the word "teenager". I'm German and read the German translation. I had never seen that word written before, and ended up splitting it incorrectly into "Tee" (German for tea) and "Nager" (German for rodent, or "someone who gnaws") so I thought it was like a weird turn of phrase and they were just really into their tea 😅

I knew other areas of the world existed with there own ideas and beliefs, I just hadn’t known it was a British story since a majority of the fictitious stories I knew of were either set in America (Avengers, Tom Sawyer, Etc.), a nonexistent place (LOTR, Star Wars, Etc.), or showed that the characters were clearly from a different area of the world (The Chronicles of Narnia, Paddington, Mulan, Etc.).

Yes! Second grade me had the books halfway to memorized and yet hardly understood every tenth word! It took me three tries to understand what PoA was about!

Ok but why do American biscuits look like scones?!?! And why do you call the stuff you put on them gravy? Gravy is brown and more of a liquid substance it doesn’t have chunks in it!
my limited research american biscuits and English scones are sister pastries (similar ingredients and baking methods.) Gravy is a sauce made with meat drippings (or the equivalent for non-meat eaters and sweet varieties) mixed with a liquid,normally a stock but can be cream which can lead to different colors and if you don't remove all the meat first from the pan before making gravy/ add back some meat, seasonings, and aromatics can be why it has chucks in it

@@Ellie_2007 biscuits and gravy a southern special is made with chucks of sausage, mushroom gravy has pieces of mushroom in it, and I personally have made giblet gravy which has both chicken giblets (liver, kidney, stuff like that) and hard boiled eggs pieces mixed in. Those are just a few I know of personally
It’s almost like other cultures prepare their food differently

Now that’s a well read book. I know most like keeping books pristine but it’s always nice seeing those books that are falling apart because the reader simply couldn’t put it down. I read Percy Jackson growing up and all my original series books (except The Last Olympian which is a hardcover) are bent, faded, and even just slightly torn (taped up though to make them whole again). Anyway, it’s just always nice seeing a well read book.
I read the books in like fifth grade and seriously thought lines like this were metaphors, and then I used them in my summer reading assignment while the teacher just stared at me like "what is wrong with you?"

This gave me a flashback to when I read the 4th one and stumbled upon the word "teenager". I'm German and read the German translation. I had never seen that word written before, and ended up splitting it incorrectly into "Tee" (German for tea) and "Nager" (German for rodent, or "someone who gnaws") so I thought it was like a weird turn of phrase and they were just really into their tea 😅
