I love Black. Got it back in the day. Reminds me of a freshly built parking lot in the day. It’s special to me. I will say, if you haven’t smelled it before, this profile might be new to you and beginners. Thanks
Damn, yet another video that is making it clear that I really need to get my nose on CDG Black. Sounds right up my alley, as does Bowmakers. Thanks for the insight!
Black Lacquer really shines in the dry down IMO. I didn't get the peony or rum but I did get the apricot. It's subtle and added a nice balance to the fragrance. I'm a huge fan of this one.
Awesome sampling session, Marc!! Thank you so much for telling about this release! The bottle is a stunner - like most TF Private Blend bottles, they have this non-screaming yet obvious chic. It’s a shame that some standout brands, true cult brands, never make it onto the popular recommendation lists. CdG is definitely one of them.
I experienced an old bottle of tobacco vanille and was blown away but when I got a bottle of the new formula I was most disappointed and gave it away 😢
I was waiting patiently for you doing a review on Black Lacquer. And now I can't wait for you to try out Shalimar Millesime Iris which I enjoy alot. Ps. Thank you for adding the visuals when mentioning other fragrances
Great review as always Marc. The only constructive criticism I have and what I've noticed from your past few reviews is the shade thrown and name dropping of perfume reviewers who you don't see eye-to-eye with or whose review style you don't agree with. That's just straight up hating and you are too old to be hating and you're too big of a name in fragrance-tube to be hating. I've followed you since the days of your Chergui and Jubilation XXV, when the only other perfume reviewers around were guys like Tswetcoff, Kerosene, Hiro, MyMickers, and NYFragance Blog. I come to your reviews over others because of your deep knowledge, passion for the hobby, and your objective take on a perfume. There may be other reviewers who have come along the way now who have amassed more subscribers than you and perhaps have become the faces of perfume reviews on UA-cam. Yet, we know you and a few other channels have paved the way for many modern perfume reviewers today. We also know who to go to if we want a quality, well-thought out, descriptive, objective, and quality perfume review on a given scent. Just focus on you and don't worry about the other channels.
He's obviously never going to give up his spitefully preachy whining. Too pompous, egotistical, and obsessively full of bitter rage over this space having long since moved on from his preferred format of when he was universally seen as the #1 fragcomm authority.
We should call out wrongdoing where we see it, these people are ignorant, have no clue what they are talking about about most of the time really and they are shameless about it, they are not into this out of genuine interest in fragrance, they're constantly pushing buying bottle after bottle- when in fact they would never spent their own money on it and they praise every single new release(they usually get sent for free) as long as it keeps their pockets full and their channel hyped. If we hold companies accountable for releasing crap after crap, reformulating old fragrances, watering them down, cheaping out on the materials, all while they keep increasing their prices year after year, then we should hold people accountable for their actions as well.
I still have about 20ml of my 'vintage' tobacco vanille. I love wearing it in depth of our canadian winters, but itll be a tough decision when i finish it. The prices are crazy.
I haven't yet smelled Black Lacquer or the other comparison frags on the table. But I do have a bottle of Bowmakers by D.S & Durga. I also have two other fragrances that supposedly are a bit similar: John Varvatos Dark Rebel and Dark Rebel Rider. Wearing Beau de Jour right now.
Thank you for bringing a true dimension to this community. I kind of understand what they mean by Tom Ford is back, since I've been disliking most of the recent releases. Everything after Ombre Leather felt unfinished or screechy to me, except Tubereuse Nue maybe. I agree peak Tom Ford Private Blend was the first releases, the Vert were good to me as well, Plum Japonais, London... but they decided to print money over art by sauvaging everything. They'll never be able to pull off something like Vi et Armis because that would just bring in less cash. Though Black Lacquer does smell the best release in 5 years for this brand, even without the funk of CdG Black. I guess they tamed it down for the same reasons they moved away from Tobacco Oud and Oud Wood Intense.
I think TF was always a brand that could deliver on a mainstream scent but also make something edgy beside it every so often, like Tobacco Oud, TO Intense, Oud Wood Intense, Sahara Noir on the female aisle to name a few standouts. I think things like Bitter Peach, F Fabolous, Vanilla S were more mainstream but at the same time targeted a small portion of that mainstream.
Generally, I only consider Tom Ford when I can find them at the Cosmetic Company at serious discount. Nice touch having the black cap and sweatshirt to go with the black bottle.
I love my black lacquer decant. It kinda reminds me of my fougere d'argent in the base tbh. Can't say I get varnish, pvc, ink, anything like that. It definitely smells "black" though. Dark and woody, Cypress, olibanum and pepper.... Super nice. I'd own a bottle. Never tried anything else like it. (not tried a lot of Comme de garçon) Edit: gave it another blot and j can imagine a vinyl record with the smell even if it's not what it *actually* smells like to me
I appreciate the deep dives and your profound knowledge. I don’t mind your criticism of the fragcomm and the “bottle brigade;” as it may (perhaps?) help the brigade provide more thorough and thoughtful reviews. But alas, most would not bite the hand that feeds them. I do enjoy “bottle brigade” initial impressions.
happy and lucky to get black lacquer and amber intrigue during black Friday. myrreh mystere is next on the list to get. and yes, i too have the whole collection almost and glasses, tie, sock and cufflinks. 😂
Thanks, Marc! I thought the opening would have been more challenging than it was. I liked the opening but I felt the dry down was reminiscent of ebene fume and myrh mystery and I really don’t care for those releases.
Thanks, Marc! I thought the opening would have been more challenging than it was. I liked the opening but I felt the dry down was reminiscent of ebene fume and myrh mystery and I really don’t care for those releases. I’m def going to sample CdG.
Definitely liking the new setup. 👍 I won't lie that this one was pretty familiar to me too right off the rip. Not at all unique or as challenging as some had intimated. Always appreciate your insight M. Cue the James Bond music.🕴😆
Reflection 45 and Bleu de Chanel Parfum impressions soon? I hesrd you mention both more than a year ago but heard nothing since. Love your channel Marc!
You should do a livestream and do a live unboxing of like 5 to 7 first impressions and if u enjoy them then u can do a full review after wearing it. And that way u could skim through all those unopened boxes u haven't smelled yet and not have to break it down in so many videos
The issue with that is the search engine on youtube won't show the videos to the people specifically searching one of the scents. Stand alone videos pinpoint that search.
Cheers Marc, if it’s anything like C&G Black then by god I would really like it , but not for the asking price , besides I got Black lol 😂. Really appreciate the review and comparisons , didn’t hear anyone else mention the comparisons, your bang to rights there buddy 💪👊🤛
Thanks Bren, yea I was shocked that no one mentioned it but then again I'm not because not one of the big reviewers talk CDG because they don't buy their own fragrances and CDG refuses PR (at least for now).
The thumbnail were my thoughts exactly. TF Private Blend is dead to me at these prices. Signature line different story, as in Europe you can find these often discounted.
I actually never heard of it until my facebook group blew up on it a few months back. I read your comment and typed the fragrance in and of course I see all the familiar faces and thumbnails... I thought it was something built on fb original hype within the group, now I'm not so excited. I got like 10 LV samples, i think 2025 is going to be LV bashfest on my channel.
We also wanted to blind buy when it released then waited and tried at Sephora- a bit boring and weak plus $$$ (seems like any sampling there seems weak?) We have 30 Tom Fords in our collection and my top 5: -London -Vert d'Encens -Tobacco Oud -Noir Anthracite -Oud Wood Intense
He's had a taste of that youtube money, now it's over, he's going to act like a child until he quits. It was once a good channel with I felt a good person with a good nose that put in the time to research.
Marc, even though you may be right about those "free bottle guys", I can't help to notice that this hate you have is also directed to channels that have more subs than you... This jealousy is not doing you any good..
It's not jealousy, remember I also get those PR e-mails. I'm not going to speak about smaller channels because well to be frank they aren't on those PR lists yet, that would not make much sense now would it?
Constructive criticism: You need to stop comparing yourself to other reviewers. The king doesn't need to go around telling everybody he's the king. Half your video was about other reviewers/influencers. You should do a long video rant to critique the rest of fragcom. I'd be interested in who you like personally. You've got more clout with experienced hobbyists than anybody. I'd love to see you do a series about perfumers. Nobody else has done that, and i feel like the community could benefit from your opinions. Maybe the top favorites that come to mind with a very brief description of each, and a history of their careers. God bless Marc. Much love.
Thank you for the feedback and appreciate articulating as you did. To note I'm not comparing myself to them, I'm trying to inform others what's out there and the lack of effort, love and passion of fragrances. I may do a video on that like you said, it's hard to see people I reviewed side by side, spoke hours upon hours about fragrance behind the scenes and then they flip like Redolessence. It's hard to see. I did have a series on noses early and even videos on specific notes. Should bring them back. Thanks again.
Ugh!! Now you’re taking shots at Gent Scents with your new desk!! I honestly like him! Every morning 5 days a week,My 1st choice is you If it’s not on a frag I already own. With my stops to get breakfast etc I have 20 MINUTES!! & Ive noticed I been getting the same ole trend burning up the clock with the continual bragging in videos on how much of this & that & How much they suck compared to you! It does nothing but make you look insecure!! That’s taking up time I don’t have! Unlike them, You have a smarter audience that know your good, But see how you’re obsession with them is causing your content to suffer..Hopefully you can put them behind you next year..They’re not going anywhere!
After I embraced him within the community when he first started and was there to support him, introduced myself and made myself available to help him get started. I was only kind, even when he started asking brands with unbelievable prices for his reviews, I defended him. When randomly I get a screenshot of a personal conversation between him and a female reviewer (which she shared after I said nice things about him). I stopped supporting him and hearing he's been getting worst (ego) in the back end of the fragrance community I don't mind showing my distain of what kind of person he is on my channel. It's not about them going away, it's about the audience hopefully not support these types of people within the community.
I agree about the frag community. Everything nowadays is a paid add, real honest opinions and reviews are rarer these days, that's why i started my own channel. All i heard is mainstream bs garbage being pushed because of promoters. I'm looking at the big frag reviewers and after their video i'm left with nothing, their descriptions are so vague and so corporative that i'm better off reading the notes from Fragrantica and call it the day. Regarding Black Lacquer, for me..seems underwhelming, the last year where tom ford shined was 2019, up until Beau de jour. After that is all downhill
You really don't need to compare yourself to other reviewer/influencers. People will do that for you. Honestly,it is tiresome to hear you constantly doing it. It makes you appear terribly insecure. Your ego is kicking your own ass. You are very likable on your own. Be yourself. I thought you might make some comparison of the TF Black Lacquer with Amouage Opus X;it has a distinct varnish accord. It is nauseating to me. Your new setup is cool. I especially like the big desk.
I agree 1,000%!!! Mark is literally one of the best fragrance reviewers on YT. But he is negatively impacting his recent reviews with tirades about how horrible his fellow reviewers are. It reveals that he has deeply rooted jealousy and it is unflattering and off putting. Mark we know many fragrance reviewers are being compensated to give positive reviews. And you are NOT one of them. We get it! Stop obsessing about what you can’t control and just focus on your channel and do what you do best. Do that and everything else will work itself out.
@@millenialbroadcast Marc is a truly great nose and has the rare ability to articulate what that nose tells him. I wouldn't miss any of his reviews regardless of whether I am interested in the fragrance or not. I can still learn from everything he says.
Love the new desk, the camera could be way better, close it in, center it more and it will be good, and go ahead and keep talking about other influencers. They love taking money and their fans love to give them money, fuckem. Do you bro 🤙
I love the influencer bashing, these clowns deserve to be called out for their BS. I'd love as many details as you know of. Name names, as you do. Although I was wondering why you attack Gents Scents, he seems one of the rare big channels that speaks the truth, and he even does as you do in calling out the BS behind numerous influencers. Have I been duped by him?
I touched upon my thoughts on him and our falling out in a previous comment on this video if you look at the comments. As for him speaking the truth, that might of been correct when he first started. He was the first fragrance youtuber that pissed off several brands by saying "pay me what I'm worth". He hides it well, he knows so much because he does exactly the same as they do and when they don't pay him enough he throws a fit and "exposes the brand" when really he was blackmailing the brands if you don't pay me I will expose you on my channel. It's BS.
@@robes08 thanks for the info, so he actually gets paid to review specific fragrances? Wow if that's true, then he's even worse than all the others. Would love you to talk about more details on this in a video. I find it hard to believe without evidence, but I guess you've seen things that prove this. I'm shocked tbh.
If Robes cared for that kind of thing he would have had hundreds and thousands of subscribers. He's about speaking the truth and calling out the false people.
Finally a real fragrance review!
It happens from time to time.
@ Been watching you for years. Good call on those trash frag reviewers. Cuba ext. woooooooooo
That gents scent impression was spot on! 😄
🤣 Glad you liked it!
I love Black. Got it back in the day. Reminds me of a freshly built parking lot in the day. It’s special to me. I will say, if you haven’t smelled it before, this profile might be new to you and beginners. Thanks
If this doesn’t let the people know you’re a real reviewer, I don’t know what would. A++
One of the best reviewer in the community if you ask me 🤷🏾♂️
✊
Damn, yet another video that is making it clear that I really need to get my nose on CDG Black. Sounds right up my alley, as does Bowmakers. Thanks for the insight!
It might be the best of the brand imo, there's a few good ones from CDG but Black is excellent. No problem on helping out.
I love the new setup. ❤❤👏🏼👏🏼
Black Lacquer really shines in the dry down IMO. I didn't get the peony or rum but I did get the apricot. It's subtle and added a nice balance to the fragrance. I'm a huge fan of this one.
If it only shines in the dry down then its a failure and garbage
Awesome sampling session, Marc!! Thank you so much for telling about this release! The bottle is a stunner - like most TF Private Blend bottles, they have this non-screaming yet obvious chic. My favourite Finn! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, always a pleasure.
Keep calling them out Marc. Great review Brother.
I would love to hear your impressions on Alexandria II, a hype beast, but my favourite Xerjoff !
Good news is that it's on the list! That's half the battle lol

Would love you to try Estrella de la Manana by Une Nuit Nomade and D’Orsay Tonka Hysteria. Both are absolute gems. A bit pricey though.
Thanks for sharing!! Noted
Bowmakers is my scent of the day, great fragrance. Black lacquer is on the to sample list.
Bowmakers is a very solid scent, it also tells a story.

Considering this, do you recommend?
@steveb8269 100%
Half the battle is getting the bottle , now to unbox it lol
TF retail prices are ridiculous.
FF is like $800.. I gotta sample me some CdG, and eventually Black Laquer.
The thumbnail were my thoughts exactly. TF Private Blend is dead to me at these prices. Signature line different story, as in Europe you can find these often discounted.
Appreciate your take, I agree the prices are starting to get out of hand.
You are Fantastic- and funny 😂 keep it up- a rare breed
Haha thank you! I’m just doin' my thing!
That "this way up" looking box on your shelf keeps grabbing my attention. What is that?
Versace Atelier fragrance, my first of the Prive line from them.
@robes08 thank you very much!

We need that lv lovers and loumari porthole vid. That porthole is a $300 freshie I like it but cmon, $300. It’s a free bottle brigade darling.

You'll find out tomorrow.
What decant shop did you get these ?
Surrender to Chance.
jubilation 40 will be my vote
That's a solid vote!
We also wanted to blind buy when it released then waited and tried at Sephora- a bit boring and weak plus $$$ (seems like any sampling there seems weak?)
We have 30 Tom Fords in our collection and my top 5:
-London
-Vert d'Encens
-Tobacco Oud
-Noir Anthracite
-Oud Wood Intense
Keep on the great work Marc and keep on exposing those influencer clowns for what they are.. a big scam. Respect.👊
In the dry down of black lacquer to me it smelt exactly like muglers pure wood.
Interesting thoughts, I'll keep that in mind next time I smell this one.
Black Laquer its bassically Black from Comme des Garcons! 1:1
basically
I get nervous every time I see how much those shelves bend in your cabinets 😱
It's going to be okay, Uncle Marc says so.

Huge fan of older TF releases, but the house has been garbage for years now. With that being said, Black Lacquer is definitely bottle-worthy for me.
The pinnacle was the original launch. Classic after classic.
Who the fu*k cares what the other folks are doing bro. That song and dance got old a long time ago.
Did you like my dance tho? I thought it was not too bad.
Marc obviously does, most viewers can see it and its kinda embarassing

Stop obsessing about what you can’t control and just focus on your channel and do what you do best. Do that and everything else will work itself out.
@@millenialbroadcast Marc is a truly great nose and has the rare ability to articulate what that nose tells him. I wouldn't miss any of his reviews regardless of whether I am interested in the fragrance or not. I can still learn from everything he says.
@ - Agreed! I’ve been watching his reviews for years. So I remember when he wasn’t so bitter.
I disagree. Someone needs to call all the bullshit out and i enjoy him doing so.
Love the new desk, the camera could be way better, close it in, center it more and it will be good, and go ahead and keep talking about other influencers. They love taking money and their fans love to give them money, fuckem. Do you bro 🤙
Appreciate it, thanks for the feedback.
The pricing for this is taking the fu$in piss like , come on
😅
Not sure why they cost so much 😂
Because they simply can. It's a known name now, it'll keep going up.
Yeah gentsscents is super cringe 😂
@@carasparks8500 - Exactly
he's dumbed down to the lowest dominator now.
@@robes08 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the influencer bashing, these clowns deserve to be called out for their BS. I'd love as many details as you know of. Name names, as you do. Although I was wondering why you attack Gents Scents, he seems one of the rare big channels that speaks the truth, and he even does as you do in calling out the BS behind numerous influencers. Have I been duped by him?
@@JohnSmith-oj9wx - Absolutely
This is nothing new but Tfs
Get over yourself
I'll try but I can't promise you anything.
Skip the first five minutes. Is him whining and complaining about other UA-camrs. You are loosing my respect
yep loosing a fan
yep he is so bad now
It happens. It's free content, so you can always not click, unsub if it's not your taste. I'll understand.
If Robes cared for that kind of thing he would have had hundreds and thousands of subscribers. He's about speaking the truth and calling out the false people.
Nah bruh we came for the frag reviews and stayed for the shots fired at the free bottle influencer brigade!
No skipping nothing in a Robes08 video.
I smell it, it’s Nice but not outstanding. Black from CDG is a best alternative.
And yes, tu parles très bien Français. 🫡
Merci beaucoup!
