    It’s always interesting to see someone packing list and always reassuring to see some of your own choices amongst the items.

    Its reassuring to see that even the best takes so much kit. Slimming down the kit list for ultras is just as demanding as riding the bike. 😊

    It’s excellent to see the super light weight end of the racer kit list. It impresses me beyond belief people can do it. The Racing Collective seem to be all over the long distance race series and it looks very safe with decent rest
    Periods in well functioning locations. I do need to do some .
    I have always struggled to get lighter and lighter, probably my background in needing to guarantee survival maybe the cost can be extravagant too. my own choice is to carry what’s needed without having to pack extremely well indeed ( like it has to go in one way and one way only ). Luckily I will never be in the position to win any of these to have to worry about size and weight. I always go to be warm, dry, fed and safe.
    For instance I have seen people chose to use instead of a sleeping bag a vapour barrier, the vapour barrier is amazingly light weight, yet it is nearly guaranteed to help you dehydrate while using it. They have a specific role and it’s for Arctic use in extreme cold not the UK.
    Kit has gotten surely lighter and lighter and the prices are coming down for sure, yet longevity of the stuff you buy remains an issue for me. A super light weight zip in a super lightweight jacket that has bust open is a pain in the A&£E.
    I do have a super light weight tent and a super light weight other stuff YET I know I can only use it for very few days a year on a specific event or it will be destroyed. My tent cost me £800 and on its first use the air beam failed, I was spitting teeth and had to faff on for a few days, I fixed the problem with some super glue and complained heartily to the manufacturer. The tent now works extremely well. But it will only be used on a race. A super light weight puffy cost me £240 but it’s delicate and I use my £40 decathlon one nearly all the time for 100g weight penalty and just as cosy.

      @@alwaysanotheradventure on APN 2022 ( All Points North ) 1/2 the field quit because it rained. And many were using the lightest “in thing” shower jackets. The weather can be serious and it was the rain was an extra not so nicety.

    Love it. Be interesting to compare his setup and weights to a much more average rider (like me) who carries a cooker and towel!

      Yeah I didn’t get the weight!
      Mind you, marginal weight difference’s don’t make that much difference.

    He needs to sign up for the GBDivide now, more MTB than the GBDuro and no rest points that favour the elite riders giving them more rest. It's a harder route.

    Lovely video, perfect breakdown of a very efficient kit. One question - what's the front orange bag, strapped to the handlebars? Is the tent in there...? Thanks, Tomas

    Thanks for such great content. Can you tell me how many grams of protein a day you aim for or do you just have it as a percentage of the total calories that you have in a day or maybe how many grams per pound of bodyweight?

    • @alwaysanotheradventure
      @alwaysanotheradventure  8 місяців тому +1

      I think Donnie will be getting back to you on this. Dr Peter Attia whose book 'Outlive' is aimed at older athletes (like me) says 16.g/kg/day - so for me at 72kg that's 112g of protein. Which is a heck of a lot and I doubt I manage that much.

    Can overshoes fit over any shoes or do they have to be cycling shoes? I wear five ten bike shoes but they are for flat pedals.

    • @alwaysanotheradventure
      @alwaysanotheradventure  8 місяців тому

      There are quite a few different types of overshoes, but most stay on by hooking over the toe and are designed for road shoes that have a slim profile (Donnie’s gravel shoes do too).
      If the 5/10s are more MTB shape they might not fit so easily, and you might tear the toe loop by walking in them.
      Maybe try a pair in a store?
