Very interesting ,I saw one young lady was chosen to study in Russia and China to become a vet ,she had never even thought about this before she was chosen ,sadly I personally don't think someone who may not really have any interest in animals previously would neccicaraly be a very good vet. Sadly this type of Soviet communist idea of just electing people to perform regardless of passion desire or interest could in my oppinon lead to low quality services and unhappy workers.
I worked in the SANDF and found people studying engineering simply because they were "offered a degree". They generally had no passion and as one said "Now my degree must work for me!"
Lovely, nuanced conversation, hitting at only the correct notes. It's quite refreshing to hear. How wonderful would it be if we lived in a society where such voices dominated our discourse, where such reason could be entertained without any prejudice based on "race" or ideological-identity loyalty, and where such souls had an interest in running for political office? One can dream, right?
So this all starts with the type of education received before university... So logically, what should be happening is the improvement of primary and secondary schooling, rather than shoe horning as much 'representivity' into the back end as possible. Its like they are trying to build a building from the roof down...
Agreed. Foundationally the current model is weak and will result in the gradual erosion of the levels required for graduation, eventually making the qualifications valueless.
Good stuff - like this and your longer formats. Much closer to what I hoped the IRR would do than TDF show (rhetoric, rants and all over the place in style and content)...
" ... chances drop to near zero if a person is both paler skinned and ideologically deviant." Professor, count yourself lucky that you're still allowed to say what you're saying and keep your job.
You need to first understand the history of south africa before you can criticize its transformation practice. if you just forget the past what are you ever going to learn?
*Every time Ramaphosa or Malemma open their mouth to speak at any time it's always about race racism Colonialism and apartheid when they stop that I promise you SAfricans will become one however those two ANC/EFF who is dividing SA people*
The historic racial psychosis under which South Africa suffers originates from the halls of academia and today it is maintained and continued by those in the halls of academia. The fact that this professor (David Benatar) has to continuously use words such as "caution" when speaking out about this base line racial fact that has infected South African society, is a top down construct forced onto South African society by academia, political pundits, corporations and media and is certainly proof of the poor intelligence that permeates through racist shackled minds. The most difficult thing for our supposedly top level minds of South Africa to admit is that their belief deserves a continuation of racial policy to fix racist policy. This continues to dumb down the self professed intelectuals, who in their misguided 'wisdom' (emphases on the "DOM" which follows "WIZE") the result clearly identifying them all as the racists that they are within. It is almost certain that an awareness of this fact is growing in intensity and our academia are finding it most difficult to accept this terrible mistake, but instead of admitting that the core of their intentions is in fact fueled by racism within themselves as they continue to propagate it instead of admitting a truth that their 'superior intellect' and 'noble intentions" makes them equivalent and as despicable to those that were the designers of Apartheid and the EVIL that it permeated. The result of "redressive" racial policy in it self continues the belief that people who are black are less capable than people who have white skin and they believe this so strongly they wrote it into the laws of South Africa once again. So let us begin to understand systemic racism. It is the process which is required in order to institutionalize racism. It appears that our South African academia, its corporate sponsors, the media propagation houses, our House of Stupid at one Parliament Street are the world leading experts at installing the EVIL of racism. I suppose this is what makes them the "Ruling Class" which are just as parasitical and EVIL as South Africa's former British Colonial Imperialists or Apartheid ever was. One has to wonder when is it going to be possible for ordinary South African people to actually get a break from all this B.S.
Don't forget the Whites created ALL THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA....THE BLACKS WERE STILL BATTLING TO CLOTHE THEMSELVES...OR INVENT THE WHEEL...FACT ..FACT ..FACT...ITS NOT RACISTS BUT FACT

Just the title alone tells me UCT has fallen. Whether politically correct or not.
South Africa is the only country in the world where the racist majority has laws to protect them against the non racist minority 🥴

It's a pity that some who hear this kind of discourse will instinctively racialize and ideologize this rarity of thought in our social spaces.
Ideologically deviant... wow where are we headed.
