As a long-time guitar player that is a gorgeous guitar. Adam, Music isn't about how well you play but how much you love what you are playing and the connection to the song.
I'm fortunate to live in Grand Forks, ND which is just 7 miles from where Kevin Muiderman lives with his family. On top of him being an incredibly talented and innovative luthier, he designed his personal living room to double as a stage/venue, consulting with his brother who specializes in acoustics. During the school year he puts on concerts. I've seen Leo Kottke and Willy Porter out there several times(both of whom use custom Muiderman guitars in their repertoire). It only seats about 80 people and is literally in his living room, so it makes for an incredibly intimate experience, the likes of which I've never had anywhere else. His talented wife makes amazing hors d'oeuvres for pre-show and set break. It's a hidden gem up here in the vast, flat, nothingness that is eastern North Dakota. Kevin very graciously repaired a glue-starved Martin D-1 of mine, despite being a busy man and not in the repair business. Can't say enough good things about him and his family. I hope he knows how appreciated he is here. Search "Muiderman theater" for pictures and a list of artists he's had at his house. It's truly special.
What a treat. I get it... for sure. A luthier friend of mine in the Lowcountry of South Carolina rebuilt my father's 1954 Martin 00-18G. The head had been snapped off years ago and someone tried to "fix" it but it never played ... Last year for my birthday, he summoned me to the shop. Had strange and interesting notes and clues and when I stepped into the shop... he handed me a fully restored instrument. I am oh so thankful to have "Dad" with me once again. It's the guitar Dad played while Mom and Sis and Dad and I sang folksongs. What a hootenanny '-} What a beautiful gift you've been given. It sounds amazing. Thank you oh so much for sharing this one. 🌻
I’ve “always” wanted to see Adam make a guitar. Seeing his process of learning how to do it, choosing acoustic or electric, which woods does he choose, what little things does he end up obsessing over… it would be fascinating.
@@Aleph-Noll it’s possible, but one day is a tall order. My interest is just as much watching the research and thought process as it is watching him build it, though.

I am about at the same level of guitarist you are. And even though I know I’m not “good”, I can’t tell you how cathartic it is to just sit and play a few songs to wind down. “Wish You Were Here” is absolutely one of those songs. To anyone out there, like me who plays but gets frustrated. Just keep playing. Even if it just for yourself.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Never look at a more skilled musician & say “I’ll never be there” - rather, remember that once upon a time, they were struggling to play the instrument just like you.
Best thing you can do is play for yourself. Even if you are crap, if you enjoy it, more power to you. Good advice for life. If it's for you, and you enjoy doing it, then don't care what anybody else thinks about it. It's not FOR them, it's for YOU!
“Wish You Were Here,” “Goodbye Blue Sky,” a few Metallica intros and several songs from video games can frequently be heard coming from my computer room played inexpertly by me. It’s so relaxing to play an instrument even if only for a few minutes.
“I humbly accept to be the steward of this wonderful thing” Could that have been said anymore graciously! Oh man he’s so happy I’m glad for him. I hope it brings you joy Adam.
I think of myself as the steward of my own instruments. High quality acoustic guitars, maintained correctly, will last a lot longer than any person. Even the guitar I had custom-made for me will live far longer than I will. So I’m very thoughtful about caring for them, and what will happen when they are no longer “mine”.
@@shable1436 Player! Although over the years, I’ve built up a decent collection (15 or so), with a core of four really fine instruments on the acoustic side - two Mossmans, a Lowden, and a custom-made Running Dog in redwood and koa. All of them get played regularly (I won’t keep a guitar I don’t play), and professional repairs and maintenance when needed. All the core acoustics have been gigged this year, except one Mossman that is getting extensive luthier surgery done - and it’s the primary gigging guitar. As an aside, I’m really happy Adam’s has a redwood top. I have two redwood-top guitars, and I think it’s the best all-around wood, although obviously it’s rare.
Listening to you play Wish You Were Here, however badly, was absolutely joyous. I’m not gonna lie, I was singing along, however badly, with a grin on my face. 💜

Avid guitarist here! Adam: no need to apologize for anything! I love seeing anyone take part in the thing I am the most passionate about in my life, and let me say that seeing the person who is so skilled and knowledgeable in many of the other areas that I am also passionate about in my life and who helped spark many of those passions for me in the first place also pick up and appreciate a great guitar is crossing wires in my brain that don’t often get crossed, and I love it! that is an absolutely exquisite guitar (and in the OM/GC size, perfect!) and I love the use of reclaimed woods with a story behind them. gift of a lifetime
That is a truly great gift from the heart. As a few have pointed out their retail for that is a large number before adding customization. The material cost is not anywhere close to the retail price but the KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE of a skilled luthier is worth a lot more than the raw materials. A skilled luthier is worth their weight in gold. I took up guitar after retiring and have a nice collection that far exceeds my skill level and that is one really nice guitar. I do have an acoustic with walnut back and sides but spruce top and can attest that there is something really special about walnut for an acoustic guitar body that gives it something beyond most other woods. Treasure that gift.
You wouldn't have guessed an old guy playing music from one of the biggest bands in the world who were incredibly popular when he was younger? Damn bro you really suck at guessing
My father has played guitar for many years now, and like you he does it to relax now and then. To me you sound fine, Adam; it's not like you have to be a professional musician to play. This is a beautiful video. From the letter, to the story behind the pieces of the guitar, to your playing (which reminds me of my dad who plays acoustic and sings to himself quite like that), it put a smile on my face. Thank you for sharing this moment with us, and bravo to the makers on such a fine instrument.
That is a $12k guitar, and that resonance alone is worth every penny, absolute masterpiece, and that case is amazing. I'm a perfect mix of impressed, jealous, and excited for you to have that thing
That’s absolutely beautiful. I can almost hear the sound of the many steamers and diesels and heavy boxcars compressing that beautiful wood as they rolled over it, a mere single click out of the millions of clicks and clacks along their journey. And now it’s a guitar. 🤘😍🤘
As one amateur guitar player, and one amateur maker to another, this was by far may favourite episode(?) of yours so far, Adam. And I’m a massive fan, so I promise that is a compliment. Thank you so much for sharing and thank you to Kevin and Hayes for crafting that beautiful instrument to share. There really is beauty in this world!
The timbre of that guitar actually brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful piece. I know it will take you to a better place as a musician. Enjoy and keep it safe.
What a beautiful gift! I work at the Martin factory In Nazareth, PA, AND I’m a guitarist AND I love you dearly, so this is a particularly fun video. A new guitar is always an exciting thing, but an unexpected, hand made personal gift guitar… that’s the best ever. You’re right, those tuning machines are really doing their job! It’s obviously not perfectly in tune, but it was in the ballpark and that’s still pretty impressive. Does the note say what the headplate is made of? It looks like flamed maple. Gorgeous!! Wish I was there. 😊
I love how this gift encouraged an impromptu live performance, and a favorite Gilmore song of mine to boot. They are awesome builders, I have collected and played off and on, also for my own soothing and entertainment, and can really tell that guitar is so well made, kudos to it's creators. Thank you Adam for the live performance, (you should end each of your videos with a song) just a thought... your better than you think. Also, thank you for all these years of doing what you do and never giving up hope that making, creating and building is not lost in the world. (I still believe it's alive)
Started playing classical guitar just over a year ago. I happened to be playing my guitar when I clicked play on the video. For a good 10-15 seconds there we were jamming together. 😄
What a beautiful instrument and a wonderful gift! I pulled out my own guitar and played along with you, Adam. Yes, it was still *that* closely in tune. Enjoy!
me - 'Adam can't be any cooler than he is... there is literally no way!' *watches this* 'OH COME OOOOONNNN!' ...It does sound beautiful though... Kevin is a genius.
Just when i think I can't possibly love Adam anymore he turns out to be a bard rofl. Adam...for playing a guitar right out of the box without tuning up you sound great. You have a really great voice, too.
Adam to know that you have enhanced so many lives must give you a deep seated pride and a humility ant the same time. You touch so many of us that you will never know how much we appreciate you and your efforts alone with the rest of the Tested team. From all of us to all of you, our thanks.
What a beautiful guitar. I'm learning to become a luthier right now, after being inspired for years by you Adam, to pursue making. So seeing worlds collide is fantastic. That is a quality instrument! And you have a great voice too
What a great video. Muiderman's guitars are pretty well known in the acoustic guitar world, particularly fingerstyle players. Leo Kottke had at least 3-4 commissioned and built to his needs, and 2 of my friends have one. I have yet to play one of his guitars but all I hear is that they are "a 10, on a scale of 1-10" Enjoy this beauty, Adam!
Whooooo boy, I wish I could see, touch and hear that thing in person. That brand is quite high end, those acoustics start at $12500, I bet that thing sounds like a frickin angel in person.
That is amazing! A brand new guitar made from old wood with a story of it's own. It truly sounds like one of the old classics with the tone of the old wood.
Adam, I know you likely won't see this, but don't sell yourself short. I know you hear that occasionally, as do I. But I've seen you do things to that guitar that only a real musician would do. Absolutely gorgeous guitar. God bless you, and all your tinkerings. Love watching them.
I'd listen to a Savage Industries cover album. Also that guitar is gorgeous, and sounds fantastic. As someone just dabbling in to guitar building (electric only so far) I sort of understand how incredibly difficult and detailed it is to build an acoustic like that.
That's amazing to hear others to take comfort in playing music to calm down and reset. Loved a chance to peer into your playing some of your favourite tunes.
Absolutely gorgeous and very special guitar! What an amazing gift! I've been privileged to own a number of top-notch guitars in my life and I can tell you, that seems like an exquisite instrument. Give it a proper tuning and enjoy it in all its resonant glory!
Seeing that kind of child-like wonder stick from him as a younger guy to an older guy is special. He’s like a continuous source of good vibes and inspiration to want to try/learn new things.
Beautiful guitar! Adam, don't fret over your playing. Pun intended :-) As a gigging musician who teaches guitar classes, it's awesome to see people playing the guitar at any level. Keep jamming!
Please don't ever apologize for your playing. If it soothes you, play on. Thank you for showing this little side of you, from one guitar player to another.
That's an incredible guitar. Not the least beat surprised at the base price on this guitar! It needs to adjust to the climate, and get a little sponge and stick in in a small plastic storage container with holes drilled in it to keep the moisture up. it'll ring SO much better keeping the moisture high enough.
I can SO enjoy the self soothing kind of guitar playing. It's the only really real thing. Completely without outside judgments. And occasionally having a spontaneous jammin' session with some close friends, and or other musicians of course. You enjoy that beautiful gift, and I hope you won't let any internet trolls get to you! This was fun to watch. 🥰
I was amazed how close to being in tune it was just out of the case! That is a treasure and I know Adam will take awesome care of it! I had a friend who made guitars and we all had a jam session one night when I was much younger and was playing entirely too loud for the place we were in. I was playing rhythm and playing an Explorer style guitar he made. Since it was so loud I got to banging the strings too hard and broke one. Well, I wanted to finish the song so I figured I could just 5th the rest of the song chords and perhaps stretch them a bit to compensate for the tuning as most guitars I had ever played would lose tune if you broke a string. I hit the first chord and it was totally in tune still. In fact all of the strings were still in tune! I was amazed at the quality of work he had done! So again people talented enough to make beautiful guitars that sound great are just the best! Congratulations again!
That guitar is amazing. Gorgeous instrument that’s sounds incredible. I agree with the others saying it would be cool to see Adam talking with the maker about how they build these with the unique materials used.

Also, thank you for all these years of doing what you do and never giving up hope that making, creating and building is not lost in the world. (I still believe it's alive)
Honestly emotional over the letter to Adam 😭 how sweet!
wow, what a wonderful gift. It's beautiful and the wood with a history makes it extra special. It was pure joy listening to you play.
Adam, it would be awesome if you could go and see these guys making guitars!!!!
Started playing classical guitar just over a year ago. I happened to be playing my guitar when I clicked play on the video. For a good 10-15 seconds there we were jamming together. 😄
Thx for letting yourself get lost in the moment of music, and shareing it with us..A truly beautiful guitar
What a beautiful instrument and a wonderful gift! I pulled out my own guitar and played along with you, Adam. Yes, it was still *that* closely in tune. Enjoy!
me - 'Adam can't be any cooler than he is... there is literally no way!'
*watches this*
'OH COME OOOOONNNN!'
...It does sound beautiful though... Kevin is a genius.
Just when i think I can't possibly love Adam anymore he turns out to be a bard rofl. Adam...for playing a guitar right out of the box without tuning up you sound great. You have a really great voice, too.
Nothing beats that new guitar smell. I hope that guitar inspires you to play it as much as you can!
Adam to know that you have enhanced so many lives must give you a deep seated pride and a humility ant the same time. You touch so many of us that you will never know how much we appreciate you and your efforts alone with the rest of the Tested team. From all of us to all of you, our thanks.
Adam radiates joy, and I am happy to absorb it.
What a beautiful guitar. I'm learning to become a luthier right now, after being inspired for years by you Adam, to pursue making. So seeing worlds collide is fantastic. That is a quality instrument! And you have a great voice too
I'd love to hear someone really play that. I watched this video with earphones and the sound is impressive!
Beautiful guitar, Adam. I'd love to see more videos of you playing music!
What a special gift! Deserving!
Whooooo boy, I wish I could see, touch and hear that thing in person. That brand is quite high end, those acoustics start at $12500, I bet that thing sounds like a frickin angel in person.
after this vid, I am convinced Adam is a king of all trades. What an amazing life to lead.
Stunning craftsmanship Kevin and Hayes. That figured Walnut is gorgeous.
That is amazing! A brand new guitar made from old wood with a story of it's own. It truly sounds like one of the old classics with the tone of the old wood.
As a sometimes guitarist, I can definitely hear the tone in that instrument, and its beautiful. What a great low end it has.
SPECIAL! I could hear the guitar resonate as you were speaking, even before you spoke into the sound hole. Amazing wood. Enjoy!!!
That is easily one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. Wow.
Adam is such an appreciative and humble guy! Would love to meet him someday.
I'll add my interest in seeing Adam fly out and do a document on the making of these guitars
Adam is one of my favorite people. Not totally because of credentials or fame, but because he's so fascinated by all of life.
Agreed! He seems like a great guy to be around.
Thank for the song, Adam, it was lovely. Had to look it up as well.
Please don't ever apologize for your playing. If it soothes you, play on. Thank you for showing this little side of you, from one guitar player to another.
Posted two days ago thousands of people have already liked Adam Savage you are 👑 King 👑
As if I couldn’t be an even bigger fan of Adam.
That's an incredible guitar. Not the least beat surprised at the base price on this guitar! It needs to adjust to the climate, and get a little sponge and stick in in a small plastic storage container with holes drilled in it to keep the moisture up. it'll ring SO much better keeping the moisture high enough.
The figuring on that piece of walnut on the back is just outstanding.
That pinless bridge is elegant and completely functional. Bravo!
What a thoughtful gift with such wonderful stories behind its making.
What a beautiful piece! Love the bit of history this guitar has, and I'd happily listen to Adam again. That was awesome!
It's very warm. Hope you enjoy it.
As a guitar player of over 40 years I say keep playing I love it!
THAT WAS FUN!!! Thank you Adam! Beautiful axe. Use it well!
Adam…. Come to PA and visit the Martin Guitar Factory. So many tools. So many makers. You’d be in heaven.
Oh my goodness, that song/artist suggestion was fantastic - great tune! 😊
That's an absolutely gorgeous piece you have. Love the tones over the inter-web...can only imagine in real time!!!✌️
Sounds as resonant as any Maton I own. Adam, you put your heart into it. That's all that matters. Beautiful video.
That is honestly a beautiful guitar... That seems to be made with real craftsmanship.
You have a great voice, Adam! What a lovely guitar!
yeah, I wish that the mic was closer to Adam's mouth so that I can hear him sing more clearly.
I'm a musician/guitarist, and I sincerely enjoyed your playing. Much love! 🤘
+1 for the great rendition of "Wish you were here" by my favourite band in the end. :)
What a lovely gift! Props to other luthiers out there. Keep doing your thing.
