I like to think that the Crystal Gems thought Lapis was so damaged that she lost conscious thought. The reason I think this is because of how awful her imprisonment would've been. Putting her in a bubble would be much better because it is proven that Gems are put into stasis. It is proven when Peridot regenerates in "Catch and Release." She's finishing the sentence she started before being poofed unaware of the passage of time. Using our perception of the Crystal Gems as of now, if they knew Lapis was still conscious inside the mirror, they would've spared her the torture and put her into stasis. This explains the looks of horror on the faces of the Crystal Gems when Steven tells them that Lapis has been talking to him. They had no idea that Lapis was still conscious, and they realize that they have imprisoned a conscious being for thousands of years, essentially torturing her. That's my theory.
Not to mention, Pearl looked really guilty. She probably was after finding out that there was actually still a live gem and not once did she ever bother to check
I like that theory but I don't agree ( not being rude) but I don't disagree I'm stuck in the middle because even after they realised that she was conscious and able to speak they seemed to be afraid of her or what she can do so I'm not insisting that you're wrong but I'm saying there might be more to that theory maybe they didn't know that she was conscious but maybe they were glad because they might know something about lapis maybe from what rose told them( please don't go searching for an episode where rose tells them that because that's my theory added to yours)😊😁😂
The crystal gems knew of her existence. "You 3 knew I was in there and you didn't do anything!" -Lapis. "How could I have known the gem kept in that mirror would be so powerful?" -Pearl. And their facial expressions showed panic rather than shock.
Brenden Mullins hey when lapis was trapped rose was there. So it means they didn't tell Rose right? :( :) -_- ??????????????????????????????????????????
well if you look at pearls gem like a bag of holding, on her head.... that would mean that lapis saw literally everything pearl has seen and more since she was put there.
It's pretty clear that before Greg came along, the Crystal Gems had made very little contact with other humans, save for references to Rose being other people before him. Rose had no idea what babies were or how they're different from adults, showing that she had little knowledge of how easily damaged humans are. Rose talked about Greg like an object when he first showed up at their base, and it was stated that they mainly kept out of the way of other human beings. If Lapis was with Pearl through all of that, then she would have the same knowledge as they do about humans and their weaknesses.
Eaglehaze she knew enough to understand she could drown the bastards. but i think this was knowledge from the time of the war, i doubt lapiz could see anything through pearl gem's. i mean, she must have seen a lot of rose, all of her. imagine lapiz saying "I saw your mom's fucking steven"
one important thing is on super watermellon island where she see it steven on watermellon form while she was fuse as malachite, and then she scream "steven" and eat it, most of people assumed that was jasper taking the control, but we have to remenber that jasper allways calls steven as "Rose".
Pearl showed Steven the mirror because she wanted to show him the "event" thing I forgot, because that is its purpose/function. *If Pearl had used it before, don't you think she would thrown it away already?*Pearl didn't know it was conscious, nobody did, Garnet herself says its a "tool, it can't 'want' anything".The only reason Lapis hated the Crystal Gems is because they caused her imprisonment in the mirror, in "Same Old World" it can be seen that Lapis wanted to stay neutral of all things.
Well Pearl Did Say How Could We have Not Known The Gem In The Mirror Was So Powerful so She Obviously Knew There was A Gem In there and Not JustA Magic Mirror
I think Pearl and Amethyst didn't know what Lapis was. But Garnet knew right away... in fact the first gem to demand Steven get away from the mirror was Garnet. This combined with similar colors and powers (water and ice) - I think there's a deeper connection to Sapphire on particular than to any other gem for Lapis.
In the Answer, you can see a silhouette of a lapis lazuli in Blue Diamond's court, implying that both Ruby and Sapphire knew enough of Lapises to steer clear, or to at least recognize their gem shape and placement. Seeing as how she was a member of the court, she was above Ruby and an equal of Sapphire's, if not higher. I think they both simultaneously knew the kind of power they were dealing with.
Ok Garnet couldn't have possibly known that the mirror was Lazuli. Steven only showed the front side of the mirror. Not the back side with the gem. And Garnet couldn't have used future vision because she was just as surprised as Pearl and Amethyst. She thought the mirror could've been some kind of danger to Steven so she wanted it. But Garnet did recognize Lapis. Only through Sapphire as Sapphire and Lapis are in the Blue Diamond Court. Lapis has a Blue Diamond on her uniform and she was with Blue Diamond in the arena scene along with the other aristocrats.
+Cesar Gonzalez but Ruby was assigned to Sapphire, for at least this one mission, where a Lapis (maybe not ours) was seen. So Ruby had to at least seen the Lapis as part of Blue Diamond's court. And so far, no gem has been surprised about the identity of another, just their powers. They at least have some recognition of most other gems, as they are somewhat immortal and have plenty of time to recognize the whole of "gemkind". And I'm sure when Pearl picked up the mirror, she didn't initially keep it to herself. She definitely told Rose about it, but I see no reason for Rose to keep it from Garnet, especially seeing if she was a member of the same court as the gem who was trapped and who probably knew the most about her kind.
Rose kept all kinds of things from everyone - Garnet's own words. And in Lapis' words, at least one gem among the Crystal Gems knew who she was, and did nothing. Applying Occam's Razor: We know it wasn't Amethyst, because she's the youngest Crystal gem and probably wasn't finished forming when Lapis was acquired. Pearl was shocked by Lapis' capability and sentience, so it wasn't her - besides, knowing her overprotective nature, do you REALLY think she'd let Lapis near Steven is she did know? Which leaves our favorite fusion, Garnet, as the only one Lapis could have been talking about. Ruby has tunnel vision and a singular focus, as seen over and over again any time Ruby and Sapphire separate. I can't imagine her paying any attention to Lapis, especially after meeting Sapphire. Plus, in the baseball episode we all saw rubies as a whole are not that bright. We can kinda rule Ruby out of any sort of inherent plotting on that alone. Which leaves Sapphire. Cold, clever, able to see the future, Sapphire. Sapphire who has similar powers as Lapis. And one other thing that really tips this for me is that the show is good about using real gemology facts as hints for characters: like the fact garnet as a gemstone is a fusion was a hint at the fact she was one way before they showed evidence in the episodes.Ad what is Lapis Lazuli known as? A sister gem to Sapphire.
Pearl explicitly says she didn't know the gem in the mirror would be that powerful. That hints that A- she didn't know what Lapis was capable of despite likely knowing what gem it was and B- she was aware the gem trapped was a sentient one. I'd go for them just not knowing if she'd be corrupted or from another faction...or just broken.
I just noticed that when Lapis is drowning Steven and Connie that Connie is in pain the entire time and Steven is in pain only near the end, since that's when he starts to need air. And when Lapis stops, Connie is weakened and near fainting while Steven is fine (or in least in a better condition than Connie). I never thought about that.
Rem Twilight I don't know why I never noticed it before. He has shown superhuman abilities before that. but that detail just never caught my attention.
SparkyN3rd ...Connie was in worse shape because she doesn't know how to swim, and Steven does. She freaked out immediately and lost more air, while he controlled his breath for as long as he could.
From what Lapis says in Ocean Gem and Same Old World, I have the impression that Lapis far prefers "city life" to the wonders of nature on Earth; and "nature" included the Neolithic humans of the time of the Gem Rebellion. She knew of the major weaknesses of humans but that didn't mean that she ever interacted with them. BTW, I contend that Lapis didn't deliberately set out to drown Steven and Connie, as I doubt that she was directly controlling the water clones. Like the Holo-Pearls and Centipeetle's "babies", I think that these were essentially autonomous entities generated by a gemstone, with practically no control over them except for recall...after all, Pearl didn't tell her Holo-Pearl to poof her or create dangerous havoc for Steven.
Well, to be honest, it was partially Steven's fault as well for distracting Pearl by asking questions, causing Pearl to kind lose focus on what she was doing for a brief moment. Steven even admitted this later on in the episode.
@@dr.unventor not true, there's the pearl and ruby fusion on lars crew and the fusion who revealed themselves during pink diamonds dance at the end of the series. They never interacted with humans and know what love is and also flirting though probably very awkward flirting
Its like learned experience, ruby and sapphire prolly learned flirting and what love is from the human they most likely met when they first went to earth, i think all the human things that the crystal gems know is all from learned experience since learning is the most human thing that gems can do without being exposed to humans
ALSO I'd want to note that when Amethyst's gem got cracked, she got all loopy and became..... unnatural, but Lapis's gem was cracked for more than one episode and the only thing that happened was that her eyes were kinda mirror-y and that she couldn't fly. Is this because Amethyst was an "overcooked runt" as Jasper suggests, or does it have to do with what KIND of gem Lapis was, and what her purpose was in life. It's kind of hard to believe that the believed to be higher ranking gem, Amethyst, could get so messed up rather than the assumed lower ranked one, Lapis. Maybe, since Amethyst could've became corrupted from that experience, then the higher ranking gems have more severe cases when their gems get cracked. If A diamond's gem gets cracked, than maybe something on the level of causing destruction of homeworld could happen. And it's quite weird that when Amethyst's gem cracked, she didn't get poofed, but rather stayed outside of her gem getting closer to the point of corruption. When Lapis got poofed, we don't actually know when her gem got cracked after that. If it got cracked while she was poofed, then why didn't she stay outside of her gem becoming.... loopy? Share your thoughts on this.
+Crystalcube and 63 or 65% of you is water so what if she controls you😲😂just being stupid I know it's not possible...........or is it....... DUN DUN DUN😑😑😑😑😑
I think that Lapis is very close to Steven because he freed her, and became closer when his spit healed her. I think she is bonded to him, and keeps secrets because of that bond. That is why Steven was able to see her in his dreams.
Squid Kid Actually, I watch it on the internet, and on Demand, and I have been watching cartoons since I was a kid. My sister was born when I was seventeen, and I spent a lot of time in college watching television with her, as well as takingher to the arcades and zoo, and I kept up with what was on. Cartoon Network and Adult swim aresome of my favorites, and Steven Universe is one I ran across when watching other thingsOn Demand. It is a bit demented and very funny, and has a lot of adult humour stuck in it that makes it fun to watch. I have run a cross a lot of older men and women that watch cartoons, but for different reaosn than young people. It is very nostalgic for us, and brings back good memories.
Squid Kid Thank you for noticing..feel free to go forth and insult more people that you do not know. Spreading hostility and snark in social media is a great way to make new friends, and meet your social needs.
Forgot the fact Gems don't care about dead gem shards and casually use them to create magical objects shown in Frybo, The cursed painting in breakfast pals, multiply wand in Onion trade, and Secret team shards. They are way more freaked out by the idea the mirror gem was still ALIVE which freaked them out, with the "Who I used to be" being im a person not some battery or tool or monster like the corrupted gems.
I really like Lapis despite the wrongs she's done. I'm not sure if she forgives Garnet, Pearl, or Amethyst, but I'm really happy she managed to find common ground with Peridot and that she understands Steven is his own person and isn't exactly his mother. I really like how they implied how toxic the Malachite relationship was between Lapis and Jasper. I don't know, I just really relate to Lapis, and think her manipulative tendencies are defense mechanisms. It could very well be one of the only ways she could defend herself on Home World. However most of her story has been an effort to reach the truth or enlightenment, as the gem is used to help seek both. It's probably the very reason Sugar made Lapis' first appearance trapped into a mirror that can see the past. It is also why whenever Lapis is involved, Steven learns something new that can very well help him understand both sides.
I think it's possible that Lapis may be hiding the reason she came to Earth from Steven because she doesn't want him to hate her. She may not have been directly on the battlefield, but I believe she may have been a member of Blue Diamond's court and there to help with colonization. Maybe Yellow Diamond's faction captured her thinking she was someone from the Crystal Gems or maybe a Crystal Gem actually captured her, but I don't think she wants Steven to know the whole truth. Steven's the only friend she has and he was the only one who actually talked to her and saved her from imprisonment. She probably fears losing him and being hurt or abandoned again.
I think it's because she thought that with the war over she could return to her old life (perhaps at Blue Diamond's court), only to find Homeworld changed beyond recognition, probably with Yellow Diamond in control and BD either unwilling or unable to help her. She also realizes that if she returned now by herself she not only be miserable, she'd be arrested as a traitor and shattered. Before her flight with Steven, she only thought of Earth as a land of primitive nature and primitive humans, with only the brief glimpse of Beach City in Mirror Gem to tell her otherwise. It also plain to me that Lapis would fight Homeworld to protect Steven.
You assume flirting is an Earth concept when all the Crystal Gems (aside from Peridot and Lapis) have showed signs of romantic desire. And it really only takes Lapis seeing one animal struggling in the water to understand the concept of drowning.
+don rob777 people say she's a news reporter because she was on the battlefield, not even battling like the others were, but instead recording what was happening. Her extensive knowledge of gem history and her ability to display events on a surface or through the mirror is used to back that up. Someone also said Bismuth attacked her because it's a war tactic to attack reporters.
+Smasherfan88 actually you don't shoot messenger because it is an act of war, once the war begins everyone is fair game especially if it looks like they're a spy. Had she been carrying a message for the home world she would've likely been protected by other gems and not standing alone where she could be attacked, and then the home world gems would have known she was with them and not put her in a mirror. The same would be true if the home world was looking for propaganda to support them or if they wanted her to show all that happened, because that would've been the smarter tactic. Were it simply for the diamonds knowledge it would've been smarter just to bring back a defeated warrior gem to tell the story. I figure other gems probably talked about the world and wanted her to see it as well
I say Pearl and Amethyst had no idea. Remember the Sand Cushion corrupted gem? That was likely a gem used not for sentience, but to power an object: the cushion. Garnet had to have had an idea though, she had Future Vision. She probably let Steven have the mirror because she knew it would work for him so he could learn some stuff, as that was the most likely future. But she wanted whatever happened to be Steven's choice. She was probably mad because she saw freeing Lapis as the worst possible outcome. Also, I feel like Lapis didn't know about the drowning. We've seen time and time again that Lapis was doing things for two people: herself and Steven. I can't see her trying to drown him. Instead, it's evidence towards her not knowing. She likely simply tried to hold them off. With the other Crystal Gems, she tried to fight them in a Gem way, using combat and she was legitimately trying to harm them. But instead, she simply tried to hold Steven and Steven's friend back.
My theory is that Lapis was a war reporter. Lapis speaks about people only seeing her when bad things are happening and being Anxious about her. Who wants too see a war reporter when there is no visible war? She has shown powers that able her too communicate in ways similar to Televisions. The Mirror Projections, She contacts Steven via the TV in "The Message", she even tells Steven about her past via a Mirror like Projection.
I think that the gems, especially Ruby, recognized Lapis' gem, and knew her as a part of Blue Diamond's court/army, because for a brief moment in the episode The Answer, you can see what I think is Lapis for a brief time. Maybe Lapis was a messenger for Blue Diamond, and would deliver messages to Blue Diamond's gems, especially when those gems weren't near Warp Pads. I think that they didn't free Lapis because they didn't recognize her as a Crystal Gem and didn't want a Homeworld Supporter running around, as in the case of Jasper and Peridot. I think they also learned the "use" of her and used her to learn more details on the Homeworld side of the Gem War, and then they eventually forgot about her.
Also just a fact about Lapis, I think she may have been involved with fusion a lot in her past. In Hit the Diamond, she has a few actions that makes me think she understands fusion and maybe even likes it.
Pearl:*walks into jewlry store and sees pearl necklaces and then grabs them and throws them outside* BE SAFE MY SISTER'S! (I know gems have no genders)
The gems knew full well Lapis was stuck in the mirror. They also knew that she was fully conscious the whole time. In "Ocean Gem", Pearl is heard saying "how was I supposed to know the gem in that mirror was so powerful?" They knew all along and its something that I am finding really hard to forgive them for. The Crystal Gems are not only supposed to protect Earth, but also to free gems from the oppression of homeworld. They knew Lapis was just as sentient as they are and yet they still perceived her as an object that "should only be following orders". As a result of this, I no longer trust any of them. The only gem I trust in this show, is Steven. I have lost so much respect for the gems after this.
Maybe Garnet could have predicted that Lapis is a conscious being and know that Steven talks to the mirror. But why was she even trapped into the mirror? In one episode, they said that she was trapped into the mirror because she dis-obeyed the commands. That could explain why Pearl thinks that she in the mirror just might be a magical mirror doing what everybody says. That states that she maybe tried to hide something from Steven. Or the crystal gems might have not known that mirror even was a gem trapped in a mirror. They might have thinking that it was just a mirror with a gem in it like a decoration. (States the video and Subliminal Circles comment.) And they were in shock figuring out that the mirror talks to Steven. But Lapis clearly really wasn't talking...she just used Steven's words from the past to create a line. So she wasn't able to do that. The home world just might have put her in the mirror just because they wanted to see what happened in the past or what even happened to Rose, but Lapis didn't obey the commands, or they just did that in madness because they did it has punishment. That might explain the thousand times when they involve Lapis being sent to the home world too. That's my twelve line theory.
The Gems didn't fear Lapis's power, in the beginig of the episode "Ocean Gem" Pearl said "how could I've known the gem contained in that mirror could be so powerful."
Yay! My requested theory! Also, if lapis's gem is physical, then how was it stored in pearl's gem? Is the storage space "teleported" or "warped" elsewhere? Can all gemstones warp small items? Does this make warp pads literal giant gems? If so, are warp pads just old crushed gems molded together to form larger warp pads?
Pearl can store physical items in where ever she stores them. She pulls tape out to prevent humans from interferring w the moss of rose in one episode. Its probably warped else where, maybe her room? Or some other storage room in the temple, like how the gems can just poof bubbled gems into the temple. Only pearl seems to pull items out of her gem. The rest just warp gems inside the temple. Warp pads are not living gems, not all the gems become people such as the gem that powered that pyramid temple in that early episode.
Jeremy Cu There's a comic where Steven and Garnet go inside Pearls gem. . . I didn't read it myself but I know that it doesn't go into her room. It's more of a pocket dimension. Such as Rose's room....kinda.... (also the comic isn't a fan comic actually made by CN)
I think that the crystal gems knew that they had lapis lazuli but didn't know that she was in the mirror! If u see the episode in which she shows her past she shows that she came on earth for a very short time but caught in a war I guess this war was the war between crystal gems and the home world and when suddenly someone takes her gem from the behind and if u notice the person who took her gem was a person really really like bismuth! Which was a crystal gem and she hid lapis lazuli in the mirror and then got bubbled by rose before she could tell it to another crystal gem We have also seen that the crystal gems come and colorectal weapons or remains of the war where I believe perl found the mirror and took it
I’ve always viewed the Crystal Gems very differently since this episode. It’s irrefutable that they knew full well that Lapis was in there- people who disagree are in denial lol I wonder if Pearl is the only one who knew besides Rose, and she had been forbidden to speak of it? Lying, hiding things, trapping someone away and not telling anyone is exactly the type of thing Rose would do.. Just running away so she doesn’t have to face what she has done and caused.
+Cartoon Universe wasn't lapis trapped by the home world gems thinking she was a crystal gem then dropped and stopped on? I don't want to start a fight just a question.
There was a point in one of Lapis's early episodes Pearl clearly states she couldn't have known how powerful the Gem in the mirror was. I think the most likely option for that part of the theory is that the Crystal Gems simply thought Lapis was beyond repair, and that she was now just a simple tool. If they had any idea the Gem was still capable of anything beyond the mirror's intended function, they would have bubbled it like they do with everything else. As for Lapis manipulating Steven, thats incredibly likely, though I'm not sure that necessarily means she's lying about everything. Comparing her to Peridot isn't really fair. Peridot isn't as old as Lapis. Lapis has been on Earth as long as the Crystal Gems, even if she was dormant in the mirror a lot of that time. She could have picked up that knowledge anywhere. And unlike Peridot, she isnt bound to a strict worldview. She is able to observe behavior and respond to it as it comes to her. Peridot sees behavior and gets angry and confused until she has had time to analyze it and figure it out.
With the new episode on the boat, we can safely say there is a lot more to Lapis and her nature than we see on the outside. Jasper has been inside her mind, and been at the receiving end of her wrath, and she liked it, Lapis.
After Lapis escapes in 'Mirror Gem' Pearl says "How could I have known the Gem contained in that mirror would be so powerful?" So she did know that if she let Lapis go that she would be strong
Lapis definitely was involved with the war to some degree. I think if she is hiding something, it's probably just that she did some bad things as a Homeworld gem during the war. She was meant to come to Earth to terraform it, after all, so I could see her being a pretty big believer in Homeworld's mission at the time and perhaps even fighting some other gems, which might upset Steven. And so she keeps it all quiet so as to not damage their friendship.
My problem with 'The Crystal Gems Imprisoned Lapis' theory is that it only works if you completely ignore all the character Crystal Gems have had in the series. No they're not perfect but their defining feature is the LOVE Steven and view protecting him as their main priority. They would not give him a dangerous and unpredictable gem to use as a toy. If they knew Lapis was a threat they would bubble her, not give her to Steven, the most vulnerable member of their group and the child they love as a son. They're actions only make sense if they were unaware of Lapis. Most likely they viewed her as one of the Gem Beasts, a gem that has been damaged too long and lost it's sentience. When they realized it wasn't true they freaked out. I mean Pearl was on the verge of a Panic Attack and Amethyst seemed to revert to almost a scared kid. They wouldn't act like that if they knew.
On her knowing certain traits of humans I think the easiest explanation is she could hear the crystal gems from inside whatever box she was pulled out of as they talked to Steven and to each other, slowly growing in loathing as they almost completely forgot she existed.
As for the CG knowing about Lapis, I wonder if they didn't know she was a gem who had consciousness. They could have assumed she was like the gem in Serious Steven that powered the 'teacup' temple or the one for the Lunar Sea Spire. That is why they were horrified she was a gem with a physical form and consciousness.
I still think the CG just didn't care, they found her more useful as a mirror than a bubbled gem taking up space in the bubble room. It's like, would you rather have an all telling mirror of the past and it's events? Or a bubbled gem that you still can't heal? It just makes sense to at least me.
Remember in ocean gem, when pearl outwardly said "I had no idea that gem could be so powerful" that goes right against the idea of not knowing what lapis was capable of
It wouldn't be out of character for Lapis to have dark secrets. As we saw with Malachite, she is the type of character who will gladly make herself suffer if she thinks she is sheltering others.
I imagine that the crystal gems thought she was too badly damaged to reform or properly think - like the gem equivalent to being in a vegetative state.
I mostly agree, but I don't think she was lying when she said that she never saw much of the earth. Remember, she might have came in contact with hostile humans battling the homeworld threat.
Another youtuber made a theory about lapis supporting the fact that she may be holding back information because her back story is very vague and made her seem like less of a complex character. Your theory is very convincing and your video was excellent. I feel Lapis will reveal the entire truth about herself in a later episode.
Narrator: 'So turn back now if you don't want to see the gems in a different light.' Me: 'WHERE THE CRAP WERE YOU WHEN I STARTED WATCHING THIS DARNED SERIES'
Lapis was probably sent to earth to evaluate how much terrifying needed to be done and may have done some herself. During this terriforming it is safe to assume that she hurt a lot of organics.
Lapis is a character that doesn't get her attentions and character development that she deserves. Kinda like how Mable in Gravity Falls never gets to apologize for everything.
Well judging by the way they reacted i could see the crystal gems being not fully aware that lapis was in there, maybe when lapis called to peral, peral thought maybe it was a corrupted gem or something else due to her crack being in her gem, but i can also see lapis hiding something, and i would love to see more of lapis devolped out as the shows goes on, and i just got into it but so far lapis is my favorite charater
You know all the corrupted gems and when amethyst was cracked she couldn't form complete sentences but when lapis was let out as a cracked gem she could form complete sentences. What if the Diamond attack heeled lapis?
i think it's important to note that it is *very* possible that the gems didn't think the gem in the mirror was sentient, we've seen non-sentient gems powering a machine in multiple episodes, like friend ship.
I think Lapis' powers might be a little like Peridot's; Peridot didn't even know she had magnetism powers and struggles with using them on larger objects, it can be assumed that either no other Peridot has them or that they all don't know about them, otherwise you'd expect our Peridot to know her kind possess that power. I imagine most Lapis Lazulis either don't have or don't know they have waterbending powers, and even those that do probably struggle with mastering it, much like Peridot with her magnetism. However, our Lapis not only knows about her powers, but is strong enough to move an entire ocean with them. It can be assumed that the Crystal Gems didn't know she had that power by the line "How could I have known the gem kept in that mirror would be so powerful?" So that explains why Pearl let Steven use the mirror - she thought the lapis inside it was pretty much harmless since lapis lazulis aren't built for combat and most of them don't possess powerful waterbending powers. What it doesn't explain is why they kept her in there if they thought she was harmless, and how Lapis got to be so powerful.
Just gonna point out, the fact that lapis chose the name 'Bob' is likely a throwback to ocean gem, when Steven said 'no prob, Bob,' and she responded by, I believe, correcting him.
The crystal gems probably thought that she was shattered, and that the gem shards had finally lost all of their power. They were terrified when Steven finally showed that the mirror spoke to him, to find out that a living gem was trapped in there for thousands of years without even knowing it.
i think so.... In "Alone at Sea" Jasper told Steven: "Heh, your pointing the shield the wrong way!" mentioning that he should be more afraid of Lapis than her, Jasper.
The way I interpreted it was that she appeared to be too damaged to be capable of sentience, similar to forced fusions but obviously not the same. But that was a false impression.
she is a home world gem, in the episode the awnser, when sapphire and the rubies are approaching blue diamond, you can see a dark blue figure with lapis' gem
She's hurt, and even with steven being so sweet, her history probably hurts too much to go into too much detail. I think we should give her more time to really explain her situation and what she's seen.
if you look carefully at gem structures you can see that they are often powered by gems, which I would assume are not sentient, such as the gems that power the gears in Peridot's trap. The only example of a gem inside a structure being sentient is in the episode when Lars, Sadie, Ronaldo and Steven go into the haunted house. My guess is that the gems, Pearl at least, just assumed that the gem on the mirror was only used to power it and did not have a mind.
My theory is that pear found the mirror after Steven was born and she knew that only rose could fix her gem. She tried to interact with the mirror to see if the gem was alive or not but never got a reply and believed that the gem was dead and forgot about it. When we see her try and use it again she looks all depressed as she hands it to Steven. Also the shock on her face could be the realisation that the gem was not dead and they've been essentially holding them hostage this entire time.
I agree
tHIS
👏
Imagine if Steven walked into a jewelry shop...
"Woahhhh, I think some of these might be gems."
Lwin Lwin Oo
"Or... all of them!"
And when he finds a pearl necklace...XD
Lilac Rose
"P-Pearl?!!?!"
K Hughes "PEARL CAN YOU HEAR ME I'LL GET YOU OUT OF THERE!", "Relax Steven i'm right here."
The crystal gems knew of her existence.
"You 3 knew I was in there and you didn't do anything!" -Lapis.
"How could I have known the gem kept in that mirror would be so powerful?" -Pearl.
And their facial expressions showed panic rather than shock.
yessssss. Everyone talks about sapphire. But they just can't see that lapis said You ''- THREE -''
but wait.
.
Rose didn't know??
+İsmet Can Çelik Rose wasn't in that scene so it wouldn't make sense for her to say "You Four"
Brenden Mullins hey when lapis was trapped rose was there. So it means they didn't tell Rose right? :( :) -_- ??????????????????????????????????????????
Brenden Mullins I am talking about the time rose still has a physical form. didn't she know? Gems didn't tell? Only they three knew?
Fun fact: The reason lapis calls herself Bob in hit the diamond is because Steven calls her bob in ocean gem
Space_Needer
“No prob bob”
I’m pretty sure everyone knew that...I mean where else are you supposed to get a decent name besides Bob and Freddie??
Lapis Lazuli
*w h y h e l l o, b o b.*
@@justataco8398 why...uhh...hello...
Lapis Lazuli
bob why do you like being called b o b
I swear to god Steven needs to ask more questions
Lmao right
"Why don't I ask follow up questions?!"

The foreshadowing is real
yea
I love how the show itself pokes fun at that.
i bet you pearl asked the mirror to see rose ;)
Mabye added some "imagination" in there ;)

I can't even xD
+MCanny Cringe king (InSANity cube) thanks for turnin' me on old pal! :) :) :)
But Lapis could've known all that stuff because she observed it from her mirror...
Very possible. Being a mirror that can spy on people is very useful for learning about the world your on.
she was being storage inside pearl gem, i don't think she had a very good reception on television from inside it
well if you look at pearls gem like a bag of holding, on her head.... that would mean that lapis saw literally everything pearl has seen and more since she was put there.
Oh...my...GOD!!! THATS. SO TRUEEE OMG OMG OMG!!!! THATS.... ....uhh... cool?
Pearl showed Steven the mirror because she wanted to show him the "event" thing I forgot, because that is its purpose/function. *If Pearl had used it before, don't you think she would thrown it away already?*Pearl didn't know it was conscious, nobody did, Garnet herself says its a "tool, it can't 'want' anything".The only reason Lapis hated the Crystal Gems is because they caused her imprisonment in the mirror, in "Same Old World" it can be seen that Lapis wanted to stay neutral of all things.
What are you even trying to say?
Lapis had *_nothing_* to do with the fusion experiments.
None of that makes any sense whatsoever.
Well Pearl Did Say How Could We have Not Known The Gem In The Mirror Was So Powerful so She Obviously Knew There was A Gem In there and Not JustA Magic Mirror
Everybody knows that, they always point out that they often use Gems to power their machines, tools, etc.
*in, not on
In the Answer, you can see a silhouette of a lapis lazuli in Blue Diamond's court, implying that both Ruby and Sapphire knew enough of Lapises to steer clear, or to at least recognize their gem shape and placement.
Steven has clearly shown superhuman abilities, he probably has captain american powers. If ya know what i'm sayin.
Rem Twilight I don't know why I never noticed it before. He has shown superhuman abilities before that. but that detail just never caught my attention.
yeah, like when he ripped that panel off the wall for peridot
Maniac of Doom Yeah!
It's a nice detail to add
SparkyN3rd ...Connie was in worse shape because she doesn't know how to swim, and Steven does. She freaked out immediately and lost more air, while he controlled his breath for as long as he could.
keeping secrets from someone because you care about them? sounds like rose
+King Dae Oh man do I love the Crustal Gems(telling u that u made a typo
Flirting can't be a human trait because ruby and sapphire were flirting
Yea but they’re the only gems that we know of that are in a relationship so that could just be a crystal gem thing
It makes sense, you would not want a water controling Jem going loco on a planet that is mostly water

+Jianna Johnson Are you trying to call Lapis Katara(She could bend water and control others on a full moon (blood bending))
I think that Lapis is very close to Steven because he freed her, and became closer when his spit healed her. I think she is bonded to him, and keeps secrets because of that bond. That is why Steven was able to see her in his dreams.
your a old man why are you watching this XD??????
It is very nostalgic for us, and brings back good memories.
. . . your still a weird old man with bad grammar
Squid Kid Thank you for noticing..feel free to go forth and insult more people that you do not know. Spreading hostility and snark in social media is a great way to make new friends, and meet your social needs.
+Squid Kid Dude, fuck off, anyone can watch cartoons, and besides, his theory is good.
I think we're all looking over the fact that Steven said 'no prob bob' to Lapis, that's why in Hit The Diamond she said her name was Bob-
Forgot the fact Gems don't care about dead gem shards and casually use them to create magical objects shown in Frybo, The cursed painting in breakfast pals, multiply wand in Onion trade, and Secret team shards. They are way more freaked out by the idea the mirror gem was still ALIVE which freaked them out, with the "Who I used to be" being im a person not some battery or tool or monster like the corrupted gems.
Those were gem shards? Dang
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING UP REBECCA'S PANEL THING. FINALLY SOMEONE WHO FREAKING PAYS ATTENTION. :'D
what was that panel for?
just an interview really
I think Pearl thought Lapis' gem was cracked all the way through.
Actually that was either a different Lapis or she turned against her home world.
Sarah DeCosta Why would she turn against her homeworld knowing a couple episodes back she tries to fly to homeworld...
Didn't all the gems turn against homeworld. I mean look at Garnet
I still say lapis is a news reporter
I think you're right.
Please elaborate?
+don rob777 people say she's a news reporter because she was on the battlefield, not even battling like the others were, but instead recording what was happening. Her extensive knowledge of gem history and her ability to display events on a surface or through the mirror is used to back that up. Someone also said Bismuth attacked her because it's a war tactic to attack reporters.
+Kesia Flores in which that would have made lapis somewhat a messenger as a rule of war is to NEVER attack the messenger
Also anyone remember when they said jasper is going to be one of the shows most complex characters
lol that was a lie
Bubble O' Steven lol whatever u say
That's still a thing. We barely know Jasper anyway.
Imagine if she was that complex character, who they just killed off to troll everyone. "She WAS complex, you really missed out guys"
Stop Theorizing!!
"You 3 knew i was in there and you didnt't do anything!"
Maybe she's not talking of Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet but of Pearl, Saphire and Ruby.
._.
She's meant to terraform EARTH! Yellow D said so! ;) that's why she knows so much about some organic stuff
That sounds plausible
And maybe when Pearl heard when Steven said he wanted "to learn", she remembered the mirror and gave it to Steven.
I don't want lapis to feel pain
What the crystal gems did was understandable tho. Lapis was an Homeworld gem meaning she was an enemy. They couldn't take any risks for an enemy gem.
Wow, a Cartoon Universe and AJ Universe vid in one day. NOICE.
maybe they thought lapis gem was corrupted so when she spoke they just realized they had locked a gem for so long
Pretty sure it's just a pocket dimension. Remember the stuff in Lion's mane?
+Miss Stitches the comics confirmed what you said
Pearl can store physical items in where ever she stores them.
+eon star what is it called?
"Unique Name"
(FLASHBACK)
Steven: bye Bob
Lapis: Uhh it's Lapis
Steven: ok
Lapis got a that's from Steven
Oh boy, I have been waiting for this one
I think they kept Lapis in the mirror because the Gem was cracked and Rose wasn't there to fix it.
Which is another reason rose probably bubbled bismuth away .
Lapis is named bob in hit the diamond because in ocean gen steven said "no prob bob"
Are you trying to say that the best gem is a liar?
Garnets not a liar!
Unless your Steven, Steven tries to have secrets, but they always crumble very quickly :P
Well except when it comes to Steven's safety.
Salty Lapis fans are what make me dislike her.
The salty Jem is pearl x lol
when Lapis split the sea, she told steven “Come with me steven” he said “Where” and she said “Home” what home was she talking about?
I think that the crystal gems knew that they had lapis lazuli but didn't know that she was in the mirror!
If u see the episode in which she shows her past she shows that she came on earth for a very short time but caught in a war I guess this war was the war between crystal gems and the home world and when suddenly someone takes her gem from the behind and if u notice the person who took her gem was a person really really like bismuth! Which was a crystal gem and she hid lapis lazuli in the mirror and then got bubbled by rose before she could tell it to another crystal gem
We have also seen that the crystal gems come and colorectal weapons or remains of the war where I believe perl found the mirror and took it
UMMM.. The crystal gems did not put Lapis in the mirror. A homeworld solider.
Actually lapis is one of the weakest gems in homworld because thier is no water but she one of the most strongest gem on earth!
We have never seen Homeworld, maybe there is water
I’ve always viewed the Crystal Gems very differently since this episode.
It’s irrefutable that they knew full well that Lapis was in there- people who disagree are in denial lol
I wonder if Pearl is the only one who knew besides Rose, and she had been forbidden to speak of it? Lying, hiding things, trapping someone away and not telling anyone is exactly the type of thing Rose would do.. Just running away so she doesn’t have to face what she has done and caused.
Do more theorys star vs the forces if evil please
+Cartoon Universe I can't wait ^w^
+Cartoon Universe wasn't lapis trapped by the home world gems thinking she was a crystal gem then dropped and stopped on? I don't want to start a fight just a question.
+Cartoon Universe I also feel that lapis Is lying to make her self seem like a threat
+Cartoon Universe Now I have 2 things to wait for :3
+The Dovakiin stomped*
3:52 lapis is right next to blue diamond 0w0
sea grass but that lapis’s gem is on her chest not her back
Lapis has always been my favorite bc she's so mysterious
LOOK AT MY PROFILE PIC!!!
Fabulous
AWESOME
IKR!!!
With the new episode on the boat, we can safely say there is a lot more to Lapis and her nature than we see on the outside. Jasper has been inside her mind, and been at the receiving end of her wrath, and she liked it, Lapis.
The mess up thing is that pearl put another gem inside herself
In other word it mean she put another one of her species inside of herself
Oh....
*I see*
After Lapis escapes in 'Mirror Gem' Pearl says "How could I have known the Gem contained in that mirror would be so powerful?" So she did know that if she let Lapis go that she would be strong
*Silently sits on the ground* So much theory, not enough actual episodes
How did no one see ur comment until know this is so true
On her knowing certain traits of humans I think the easiest explanation is she could hear the crystal gems from inside whatever box she was pulled out of as they talked to Steven and to each other, slowly growing in loathing as they almost completely forgot she existed.
As for the CG knowing about Lapis, I wonder if they didn't know she was a gem who had consciousness. They could have assumed she was like the gem in Serious Steven that powered the 'teacup' temple or the one for the Lunar Sea Spire. That is why they were horrified she was a gem with a physical form and consciousness.
When she said did you ever wonder who I used to be maybe she just meant she used to be a free gem with feelings
I still think the CG just didn't care, they found her more useful as a mirror than a bubbled gem taking up space in the bubble room. It's like, would you rather have an all telling mirror of the past and it's events? Or a bubbled gem that you still can't heal? It just makes sense to at least me.
Remember in ocean gem, when pearl outwardly said "I had no idea that gem could be so powerful" that goes right against the idea of not knowing what lapis was capable of
Lapis could have had no experience with humans but still have known how to smother organic life.
Narrator: 'So turn back now if you don't want to see the gems in a different light.'
Me: 'WHERE THE CRAP WERE YOU WHEN I STARTED WATCHING THIS DARNED SERIES'
How DANGEROUS is Lapis Lazuli is, only Steven can stop her.
Lapis was probably sent to earth to evaluate how much terrifying needed to be done and may have done some herself. During this terriforming it is safe to assume that she hurt a lot of organics.
If Steven had never freed lapis she would have never gone back to home world and Steven would have never found out about the cluster
Lapis is a character that doesn't get her attentions and character development that she deserves. Kinda like how Mable in Gravity Falls never gets to apologize for everything.
I feel like lapis was probably thinking "I'm not listening to a pearl"
Well judging by the way they reacted i could see the crystal gems being not fully aware that lapis was in there, maybe when lapis called to peral, peral thought maybe it was a corrupted gem or something else due to her crack being in her gem, but i can also see lapis hiding something, and i would love to see more of lapis devolped out as the shows goes on, and i just got into it but so far lapis is my favorite charater
Can you imagine how strong lapis was when gems didn't know they had weapons
I just want to bring this quote from pearl. "How was I supposed to know that the gem in that mirror would be so powerful?" Make of that what you will.
You know all the corrupted gems and when amethyst was cracked she couldn't form complete sentences but when lapis was let out as a cracked gem she could form complete sentences. What if the Diamond attack heeled lapis?
She understands flirting because of *camp pining hearts*
i think it's important to note that it is *very* possible that the gems didn't think the gem in the mirror was sentient, we've seen non-sentient gems powering a machine in multiple episodes, like friend ship.
When she was released she said she was sent to earth to be an observer, so that's probably how she knew those things.
"Maybe Steven should ask more follow up questions."
WELL DUH
I think Lapis knew so much about earth because she was trapped there for 5000 years.
Just gonna point out, the fact that lapis chose the name 'Bob' is likely a throwback to ocean gem, when Steven said 'no prob, Bob,' and she responded by, I believe, correcting him.
The fact that you realize peridot is shipped with a crystal gem that spent most of her existence in a mirror.
The crystal gems probably thought that she was shattered, and that the gem shards had finally lost all of their power. They were terrified when Steven finally showed that the mirror spoke to him, to find out that a living gem was trapped in there for thousands of years without even knowing it.
lapis is kind and playful but you are right lapis is mean to the that she dislikes i wouldn't say she is a bad gem because she is a very nice person
i think so....
I think we should give her more time to really explain her situation and what she's seen.
she could have been a warrior but doesnt want too tell steven because shes becoming a crystal gem and is afraid steven will judge her
if you look carefully at gem structures you can see that they are often powered by gems, which I would assume are not sentient, such as the gems that power the gears in Peridot's trap. The only example of a gem inside a structure being sentient is in the episode when Lars, Sadie, Ronaldo and Steven go into the haunted house. My guess is that the gems, Pearl at least, just assumed that the gem on the mirror was only used to power it and did not have a mind.
Well I do remember Pearl saying that they never knew such a powerful gem was trapped in the mirror
I agree even more after the Bismuth sneak peek came out. Bismuth sounds like a really nice person. I don't think she would do that to Lapis.
