    “If we want to get this job done, it’s gotta be done. So you know what we’re gonna do? We’re gonna do it.”
    The rueful delivery made me smile, but it’s a great mantra for those less pleasant tasks we have to undertake as adults in order to get to the things we do like. This is a magnificent machine, I know I’m late but it’s been cool watching it come together.

    Keith please get yourself one of the 3M rugged comfort quick latching face pieces with some P100 filters. They are so much more comfortable than the disposable masks and with how much I talk about them 3M should start sending me some kickbacks. It is so convenient to take on and off that I use it even when I might not have bothered to wear a dust mask in the past!

    Zip ties on shackles and slings are used to indicate inspection dates. Most workshops have a sign that say "lifting tackle colour" and then changeable signs that say, RED, Green etc. Every three months all the kit has to be inspected here in the UK and the colour will change. Therefore any kit that missed inspection for any reason is obvious because the zip tie colour is wrong.

    7:50 - Cinti Mill called it 'finish coating' from memory, but all the machines got at least a skim-coat and at times more than that. '60s.
    14:24 - 36 teeth means 1/10 of a rotation gives you that result.

    Keith,
    There are laser alignment tools that are designed specifically for the alignment of machinery. We used them to align large motors (>250 HP) and fans or pumps. The software would calculate the shim's location and thickness. They were also used for boring stern tubes and rudder horns and bearings.
    We didn't buy any equipment. Instead, we relied on contractors to do the work. I believe it was worth having their expertise.

    I'm no pro on body filler either but when I fill plaster holes I go find a really flat piece of melamine/ furniature board and put the sand paper under bar a bit folded round two sides to hold onto. sands it wonderfully flat.

    If you take a small cheese grader and lightly go over the filler to take off all the glaze, it will help keep your sand paper from clogging up. do it just as is setting up, after about 20 min's or so then sand away. 15:25 Your shop dog think's he's a cat.😁

    • @johnfriend240
      @johnfriend240 Рік тому +4

      Disconnect the feed rod at the headstock end by removing the drive pin. Can adjust the tailstock height until aligned. If it was adjusted before, the pin should be right on or very close to reattach the feed rod.
