Congratulations Keith. I was forced into retirement almost exactly 1yr ago due to health. Your videos are a huge part of my week. I've been going back and watching old ones I never got to see. Hopefully I'm still here by the end of July to see what your real life career was. Thanks for the extremely great content!!!
I've retired twice. Once from the US Navy after 20 years service and once as an accounting manager for a mid-sized company. Now I do nothing and I do that very well.
First of all, thanks for your service. I don't have a lot of people in my family that ever served but one of my uncles did his entire career in the army. I worked 7 days a week for 21 years and only missed exactly 1 day due to jury duty. To go from that to zero point was and is crushing. I'm only 57yrs old. Before that 21yrs I worked junking scrap with my dad. Now I'm only able to sit, watch TV and play guitar which I've been playing since I was 7. I want to work¡!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations!!! A definition someone gave me years ago...."Retirement is when you quit doing what you have to do, and start doing what you want to do."
IN the 1950s i worked for a farmer , in the shop were two 36 inch adjustable wrenches . We put a ten foot pipe on one to adjust tension on the dozer tracks. Twisted the wrench to the point that if you looked at it hanging on the wall it skinned your knuckles ! It has residded in a deep furrow in a cornfield for sixty plus years !
Keith: My heart felt congratulations on your pending retirement. I was finally forced to retire from a career I loved for 30+ years as a psychiatrist after two tours through the cardiac ICU and experienced an anoxic hit to my brain. (Oxygen starvation to the brain) resulting in my struggling to remember drugs, dosages, and more. It was hard to finally face the reality I couldn't properly serve my patients at 100% anymore. But there is life after career retirement. Given the diversity of your skills, hobbies, and talents, in a year or two, you're going to wonder how you ever had time to go to work! God bless and wishing you all the best, Scott, Vancouver, Washington.
I have been admiring Keith's weight loss lately. Related to that, I spotted this in the Tifton Gazette: "Keith Rucker was named the individual male biggest loser by shedding a sizeable 41 pounds and trimming 11.75 inches from his waistline. Most importantly, however, Rucker reduced his cholesterol from 175 to 146 and lowered his resting heart rate by 21 beats per minute." Congratulations, Keith! May this increase in health serve you well, long term.
Dear Henning Johansen. 👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! Now that's quite an achievement! Congratulations 🎉 to Mr. Rucker! Nothing more important than our health! Thanks for letting us know that. Best regards, luck and health in particular.
You will find your self so busy after you retire it will make you wonder how you ever got anything done when you were working... I am retired and truely do love it I have been retired for over a year now and it has been just a treat to work on those things that I never seemed to find time to do. Enjoy. I do hope to make it up your way from FL one day to maybe get to work on one of you shop projects in the future. Take care and good luck.
Thank you for your information,, and guidance, and your humor. I also was retired early. And don’t stop what you like to do! Safe journey into your retirement.
6 yrs ago I did the same. It takes a while to adjust to the fact that you stay at home and you still get paid! All the very best to you and I'm sure you will enjoy the transition. I was able to do more on my UA-cam channel and I hope you will too. Mart in England.
Congratulations! I too will be retiring in July of this year after 36+ years in the spacecraft and launch vehicle processing field. It’s been quite a ride but I too am ready to move to what’s next. Between my machine shop work, my muscle car hobby, and golf, there’s plenty to do!
Glacier National Park? I'm not far from there - in Calgary! I know both you and your wife will LOVE that area! If you get the chance - Banff and Lake Louise area is worth it. And if you're here in early July - DON'T MISS the Calgary Stampede - you've never been to a party with over a Million people!
Good for you Kieth. I pulled the pin at 60. My back was pretty much worn out and my wife has some heath issues. I should have kept working dollar wise but mentally and physically I feel so much better. I pick up little jobs here and there but now I can be extremely picky. Good for you for going for it. I don’t watch every episode, I pick through what interests me, but I do enjoy your channel. I hope it grows.
Congratulations, Keith, on your upcoming retirement! I'm eager to see more of what you have been doing and what you will do with your own shop. You'll love Glacier National Park. For a future trip, consider Banff National Park in Canada as well.
A good decision Keith, well done. I am sure that you will be very successful with Vintage Machinery. I retired at 62 and do not regret the decision at all. Best wishes, Simon from Dorset UK.
Congratulations Keith! I retired from education up here in Ontario, two years ago. Absolutely love being able to spend my days in my shop…if I want to! Best of luck to you, enjoy!
So pleased to hear about your retirement Keith! I am retiring at the end of June/2024 after 43 years as a Mechanical Engineer and professor of engineering and it’s been fun, but my own shop and long list of projects are calling.
Congratulations on your retirement Keith. Keep up the great work on your videos, I always look forward to your videos, learning something new every time!
Keith, I have followed the Talley Ho project for years and started following you when Leo mentioned you were working on the capstan. She's now in the water up in Port Townsend and will be needing that capstan soon. I did a little machining while pursuing an ME degree in college, and your process is really fun and educational to watch. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. It will be the best job you ever had. Go see that glacier before it disappears. All the best...davey
Congrats on your upcoming retirement. I did that 20 years ago this month. Absolutely no regrets. I taught IT for 35 years. A tough field to keep current in though i did enjoy learning new stuff. Now I get to learn lots of new and different stuff of my choice.
Congratulations on your retirement. I retired earlier than expected and never looked back. I took a part time job in my hobby of model railroading until I was able to take a full retirement. Now my shop provides a little extra income for play around funds. I am sorry that I will not be attending the Bash this year. I met you there in 2018 and 2019, I was scheduled to go in 2022 but my flight was canceled at the last minute. I am making preliminary plans to take a road trip next year to attend.
Retired at 51 with 28 years in when EKU wanted to reduce their workforce. Got a pretty decent package to go with it. Did very little for about a year, then went to work at one of the local golf courses. Been there 11 years and love it. Congratulations on your upcoming adventures.
Keith, good morning! Just want to let you know how much I appreciate and enjoy your videos. I know you’re not for everyone but I enjoy learning things and you definitely have a teachers heart. I’m in the metro Atlanta area and I definitely want to get down to your area one day maybe even help out with a project. I hope you have a great time in retirement. I retired from law enforcement (35 years) five years ago in June and I have enjoyed doing lots of projects around the house. God bless!
Hi Keith, long time lurker/subscriber here, if rare commenter. Really made up that you can retire and make some time for yourself and family and enjoy the fruits of your hard work over the years. Hope you manage to read this. All the best.
Congratulations on your retirement. I think you have made the right decision and will not regret it in the future. Looking at the pipe wrenches, I was shown the first example, painted grey in my school’s metal shop 63yrs ago. We were told it was a ‘puffin wrench’, rather than a ‘stilson wrench’. We didn’t have a pipe shop so it wasn’t demonstrated. Good luck with the future. Your wife will be pleased to get part of you back and that road trip sounds like an ideal start for you both. Regards.
Well done Keith. I retired in 2020 at 57. Never looked back. You are such an interesting person your days with be full and you'll get time to do the things you love. Best wishes from the UK
congratulations Keith, I spent 32 years in the same organization, I loved my job but I reached a saturation point. Now, I continue to my pace I feel so free, I accept no job with tight deadlines and most of the times, I act as a consultant not a Go for very good announcement excellent video as usual.
Congratulations Keith on you pending retirement in July! So cool that you can leave the professional job you held for the last 30 years and follow your passion focusing on the channel. I look forward to seeing the video heralding the change. Love your channel and thanks for sharing!
Congratulations Keith! I can’t believe how many videos you manage to get out while working! Hope you manage to enjoy your new lifestyle and I’ll continue to look forward to seeing what you’re working on!
Congratulations Keith. The last 20 years since I also took early retirement have been extremely enjoyable. I hope you find it likewise. BTW OTC make a 36" adjustable wrench with 5000 lbs/ft capacity.
I'm incredibly happy and excited for you, Keith! Given your skill I'm confident you will be successful running your own machine shop. I look forward to what the future holds, and would also love to hear more about what you did over your 30 year career!
Congratulations on your retirement you will love it I have been retired for 11 years and loving it. Looking forward to more content from you I love you channel 🎉
Wow. I think you made the right decision. You can never get back the years while your still in good shape, active and healthy. I waited a little to long but did some consulting.
Congratulations Keith! You'll love having more time to catch up with things that have had to be put on the back burner because of the daily grind at work.
Congratulations on your nearing retirement Kieth! I saw a video a few years ago of you involved in your "regular" job so I do have a hint of what you've done in that job. I was impressed. I'll be interested in what you have to say about it in future videos.
I’m very excited for you! If anyone deserves good things, you do. I’m looking forward to your videos in the future. I have learned so much from you, that I feel like I could actually operate a mill and a lathe.👍
I've found it to be really true since I retired two years ago: I truly am way busier than ever. People told me that might happen, but I couldn't see it happening to me, since I was looking forward to relaxing. But, boy, relaxing to boring fast. Congratulations on your own retirement. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you get up to!
Keith, I retired during covid. I have been more busy than I was when I was working full time for other folks. Waking up and deciding what you are going to do for the day is something i have learned to love. I hope you love it!
Best of Luck on Retirement Keith! I have 5 years to go after 41 years already in Manufacturing and Machine Tool Design. This UA-cam stuff is my therapy. Why pay some guy/gal shrink $300 an hour when you can make and fix stuff and get paid yourself! That is my therapy! Good Luck!
Hi Keith, well congratulations are in order on your retirement!! The paid handsomely to get rid of me, and now in retrospect, I'm glad they did! It's now my time to do what I want, and I do! Looking forward to seeing you at the BASH again this year, always a good time!! Take care, relax a bit!! You have earned it!

After being retired for 10+ years, there is life after the workaday experience. It takes some adjustment, but it has been doable.
My sincere congratulations on your retirement. I hope you enjoy it for decades.
Excellent. Going out to that dream shop everyday sounds wonderful.
I have been admiring Keith's weight loss lately.
