Yes stacks of rays out there now! They seem to have replaced the cod off our shores. Whiting are two a penny but are a good tough bait as well. Unless they become ' commercial ' we should be catching rays for many years to come. Good video!
This last few months the rays seem to be mainly small with a lot of small codling mixed in with them (I've not filmed a session locally for a while now). Maybe things are beginning to change? Thanks for watching
Greetings from NZ's South Island. Finally, someone who uses a low mount fixed spool reel like I do !! When fishing with a long trace, I use a Bagnall Bar rig that I find casts further than either a pulley or up&over, plus it spins less with a large bait.
Blimey took Holland on sea apart ....machines! Never seen a fixed spool cast like that amazing angling . Nice markings on the rays too.will be down there myself too soon practicing my casting and terrorising the whiting 👍

Great video. Do u use the breakaway casting cannon when casting with the fixed spools. Do u find it more comfortable to use the reel in the lower position. I use multipliers in the lower position but am experimenting with a fixed spool and braid and using the reel in the lower position seems more natural to me. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Steve, I have changed to fixed spools from using a multiplier in the last few years. It was after a trip to the north east watching the anglers up there who fish the same way! Fishing the reel in low position is certainly more comfortable for me personally and with a finger stall to protect the forefinger I can cast further, retrieve faster and fish more efficiently than I could have ever achieved with the multis. Hope this helps
