The entire point of these nippers is that you can get right up against the plastic and make a clean cut that requires essentially no clean up. I wish this review would have actually shown the nippers in action.
Sorry man, you're telling people the wrong thing. God Hands ARE made for cutting directly against the part. You should be using your cheaper nippers to cut from the sprue while leaving a little nub. After that, use the GH to shave right against the part for a nice clean cut. Not sure what you're doing to get that weird diagonal.
@@ninjatango I mean, it does work. You sure you got the real thing? Are you doing it right? You have to line the blade up longways with the shape of the nub. If it doesn’t work, try adjusting your angle. Or maybe yours aren’t sharp anymore. Like all blades, they need to be sharpened periodically. Clip very quickly too, if you do it slowly, you give the plastic a chance to distort and turn white. Lots of chance for user error, but eventually you can do it! :)
I have this nipper. Cuts plastic like butter! I even have Nendoroid Nipako as its guardian! I believe you can buy them at amazon for around $100 or less w/o shipping. I got mine at a local hobby store that surprising had this one last stock
just saw your review, great channel. I have the godhand nipper. I think you're using it wrong. I usually use godhand nipper to clean the nub after cutting it from the tree. 1st I use other nipper to cut the part from the tree than I use god hand to trim the nub. If you angle it right and cut, It won't have any white stressed mark on the plastic. It work great for clear and chrome parts.
He's not using it wrong. There is no technique or anything to know. There's no other way. You still have marks, you just aren't discerning enough to notice.
i always thought/heard the draw to these nippers was due to folks being able to just cut up against the part itself, leaving very little to no nub behind, and without stress marks. if you're still cutting and leaving a nub then yeah i can agree with the opinion that these aren't really needed since you're still doing the nub cleanup afterwards anyways. though a sharper cleaner cut may slightly speed along the process of removing parts from the runners.
Dollar store, Pair of nippers and needle nose pliers in set $1, cleanly cuts Gates off runners no issues 8 years later. $60 Godhand nippers, cuts gates just as good, difference is? $59 gets a really nice MG or 2 RG's or HG's. You decide which is better deal.
Wait, if these are God Hand grade nippers, will it try to purify my NZ-666 Kyshatria when I get to work on it. Also, all I did was take a pair of standard general use nippers and used a rather powerful grinder to shape it into a side cutter. Works for me to this day.
I have a pair of small wire cutters I've been using for gunpla and other models for about 25 years. got them from Sears, the generic craftsmen off brand that cost me about 4 bucks. I still use them. I do have hobby cutters I got from the hobby shop, cheap but effective. I could afford these but ask myself why?
with that nipper money, i can bought a MG Nu Gundam & a good Mineshima/Tamiya nipper. the blade is very thin & sharp, but not recommended for clumsy/rough people. Drop it & you're gonna cry it for 1 week
I use flush-cut pliers for cutting fret wire, (about .095"/2.4mm copper,) and they work very well for me, but I am also a luthier so I already had them on hand. If you have access to a belt sander and a steady hand you can also get a smaller pair of cross-cut pliers and sand them flush with the cutting edge, but I imagine you have more control over something like the GodHand, at least on the grip end. They might be something to look into though if you have giant hands like me.
In regards to the grip, you could probably fashion your own grip to your liking using some SUGRU. I did that to extend a shaving brush handle, and that thing hasn't budged a centimeter in 4+ years.
i use the 4 dollar cuticle nippers from wal-mart and they lasted a long time and gave me clean cuts to work with and i also used them to remove the nubs. i've done atleast 6 kits so far with them. 5 of them HG and 1 MG and i'm about to work on another MG.
How do they perform on plastic of different types? I always regret not buying better nippers when I cut our a fragile/brittle part like the RG Strike Freedom's clear shield... So brittle... Q__Q I usually keep a sharp nipper for thinner gates and a more rough nipper for large ones like for big parts on kits like the Neo Zeong. Do you use the same nippers on every type of gate and plastic?
ZakuAurelius I haven't even seen the runners for that kit yet and it was pretty obvious since the runner you have is orange. there aren't many orange Gundam model kits, especially Master Grades.
The God Hand SPN-120 nipper is the best nipper you can get on the market. It's better than the gundam planet one, and way better than the rest. This video doesn't give this nipper enough credit, most people got stunned when the first time they use God Hand nipper. It will save you tons of time to clean up nubs, it cuts plastic like butter and it leaves no stress marks at all. The only down side is they are very expensive.
jsisw9i9 Yes I also own the 120 5.0 and it is an amazing pair of nippers. However they are so expensive that I only use them for specific models. I use them for all my PG to make those cuts as clean as possible and I use them for metal and gloss finish builds since with regular nippers the paint on those things can show up ugly if you mess up. With master grades and real grades I just use my cheap god hand nippers that was around 30 bucks. If I could I would use the 120 all the time but I don't want to wear out the blade.
Mine came in today. I decided that I'd use them to cut out my clear action base 4. My god. Even though the plastic is slightly harder than a normal kit, it cut right through. And virtually no nub mark. Its stunning.
It's nothing special. You got suckered by marketing, overpaid, and are now trying to justify your poor decision making. It still leaves stress marks 100% of the time.
Yoo, so is GodHand good for clear parts or not? I know this is an old vid but the answers just seem to say both things, like are the people who say GH isn’t good for clear parts using the GH in a wrong way or vice versa or smth?
Can be yeah, but any single blade nippers really. You aren’t gonna wanna cut clear parts flush without leaving a nub. You gotta leave a little bit then I recommend removing the nub with a glass file
I bought a pair of Xuron cutters on Amazon about a year ago and they have served me pretty well so far. Also, how often are you supposed to replace nippers, or does that depend on how often you use them?
xxnike629xx I want you to google image search wire cutters they are literally identical to all the over price model kit nippers that are sold at hobby shops.
I jus use a cutical nipper it works just as good also god hand nippers are like $100 a pop and ima ghetto kit builder so i gonna choose the cheapest option possible
They may give fantastic results but the results will never be seen since you use a knife to cut the nub off close to the part. If these cut the nub close to the part and left no marks then they might be worth it.
Like here in the US I get Tamiya side cutters on Amazon for cheaper than the godhands or GP nippers with free 2 day shipping... Sooo yeah tamiya is the way to go here.
Nice review 👏 The Tamiya sharp point nippers are super nice and reasonably priced (around $25-$30 USD). While these also look nice, paying upwards of around $80 to $100 is crazy to me, specially considering you have to denub the part later anyways... No nipper really saves you from trimming and sanding nubs, never understood the hype.

Seriously I don't get how people selling those shit so expensive I just been cutting all my models using nothing but nail clipper for years. Is not like one cut by this thing is going to make the piece flat and perfect anyway you still need to use hobby knife to clean it so what's the point.
I started to wonder what happened to these, thought you might have lost them. Honestly, mine along with the GP nippers sit around. I still use the $2 side cutters for rough cuts, and my pro zetsu when I need a fine cut. These are not the best thing for gunpla, they work well for ships and planes. Things where you have tiny fragile little pieces, that snap if you breath on them funny. Gunpla has good quality plastics, good gate placement and big parts. so even cheap side cutters are perfectly fine for them. For those in the USA wondering where to get them, check Volks USA online store. they got a shipment in about two months ago. Amazon is another place. And you can always check ebay. But honestly guys don't spend more than 40-50 on them. there not gonna be the end all, and they have a lot of downfalls. I chipped my first set cutting a gate on a clear runner. They are very nice but not a good replacement for sharp knife and some sanding sticks/files. For those wondering how to sharpen them, Mineshima offers a service only in Japan. it's around 500 yen to get them redone, and it's very nice, sometimes better than new. If you buy a pair and you get them with only a white card backing, no instructions. You might get a set that has been resharpened, that's how the pair that I sent off, came back.
Hehe~ nah didn't lose them just didn't need them yet! Good point about them being better for other types of models, should have mentioned that. Thanks again though, Alex!
Yes I do!! In fact the gundam planet nippers are very thin single blade, like god hand. usually on amazon for $35. tamiya sharps are very nice all around nipper, again same price. they are double bladed, and quite a bit wider than GP or god hand. That is one alternative to using expensive nippers.
Just used my GodHand Ultimate Nippers 5.0. They are so smooth you only have your eyes to determine whether or not you actually cut the spew. They cut so clean you have little to no clean up and no stress marks on the plastic.
Ive done six kits and have always cut to the base of the part and then used a hobby to get the tiny remainder. I have to ask, why not? Btw USA gundam store has them.

cut aluminum foil. idk how or why, but it works

They're not as effective due to their size.
