Video created on the iPad Pro using Luma Fusion. The ukulele chord font is Chordette for Education, available at ukefarm.com.
For such a simple picking pattern I am getting so mixed up XD
It’s just like Dory (almost) says...”Just keep strumming, just keep strumming...”. (Or “picking”)
Same!
@@ukeplayalongs 😊😊😊😊😊
This is so hard for me, but toward the end of the song I felt like I had it figured out. Just gotta keep practicing 💪🏼
That is the definition of music!
I love this song, it means a lot when u really listen and I love that you made a cover for the ukuleles
Thanks!
This is a great exercise for 3 finger picking
Agreed!
I just started playing this song today and I feel professional. Thanks for making this video. It helped me learn this song!
You are very welcome!
Just saying if the picking pattern isn’t for you, I highly recommend just doing DUDUDUDU
Or anything else that works, because there is no single correct answer for strumming!
when I'm at the Am chord I switch the fingerpicking from the third string with my thumb to the fourth string. That way when fingerpicking, the Am chord doesn't get lost. I also think it gives a nice variety in the song.
I also use the fourth string t pluck the chord F
Thanks for the fingerpicking suggestions!
thank you so much for this ukulele arrangement . It s so beautiful
Glad you like it!
I’m going to be teaching my dad how to play the ukulele tomorrow and he wanted this song to be his first song , I’m hoping that once he gets good he’ll be able to play along to this I’ll be sure to comment when we get to this stage !
Do check in and let us know how it went!
did he ever get to play it?
wtf I literally thought it was by Green Day this whole time oh my god
This happens all the time...there’s just too much music to keep it all straight.
Lol
I think I downloaded this song with the artist being green day back in limewire times lol
Oh my gosh this was a great help, but I find just doing D-U-D-U-D-U is much easier!
Whatever works for you!
This is the best and easiest to follow up, thank you very much
You're welcome!
Man, takes me back
Great song!
Hey there, Delilah
What's it like in New York City?
I'm a thousand miles away
But girl tonight you look so pretty
Yes, you do
Times Square can't shine as bright as you
I swear it's true
Hey there, Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice it's my disguise
I'm by your side
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me
Hey there, Delilah
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me girl
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good
We'll have the life we knew we would
My word is good
Hey there, Delilah
I've got so much left to say
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I'd write it all
Even more in love with me you'd fall
We'd have it all
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
And we'll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time that we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're the blame
Hey there, Delilah
You be good and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school
And I'll be making history like I do
You know it's all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there Delilah heres to you
This one's for you
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me
Oh oh oh
I don't really know what to do with these posts. I usually delete them, because I figure that people can just do a search for the lyrics on the web (with immediate results). But, I'll just leave this here.
With all sincerity, is there a reason to post the full lyrics in the comments? What's the purpose?
@@ukeplayalongs I usually look in the comments for the lyrics, when I need to see something in the video to play but also need the lyrics because i don't know it by heart. It's very practical
this sounds so pretty!!! it hurts but i HAVE to learn it
Practice 10 minutes a day for now. You’ll have it it eventually.
@@ukeplayalongs OMG I GOT IT THANK YOU SO MUCH
You can also try A, Bm, D, Gbm and G it sounds pretty good too!
Just make sure not to play those chords with this recording, because they will not work.
We’re doing ukuleles in school soon and I hope I learn how to pluck. I haven’t played in so long and my fingers cramped so hard but I can’t wait! I gotta practice I’m so rusty-
You can do it!
Heck yeah, more picking patterns!
Lovely to pick to ;D thank you
Also agreed!
Here's another picking pattern for the beginning
Fret 2 C string
Fret 2 E string
Fret 2 C string
Fret 2 E string
Fret 2 C string
Fret 2 E string
Fret 2 C string
Fret 2 E string
Fret 1 C string
Fret 2 E string
Fret 1 C string
Fret 2 E string
Fret 1 C string
Fret 2 E string
Fret 1 C string

Then repeat the first paragraph and second paragraph again and your done 😃
Also I use the strumming pattern DU UDU
Thanks for the thoughts.
thank you so much for this! this really helped with my music exam :)
I'm glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching the video!
Very useful thank you!
You are welcome!
Loved it! xoxo
Thanks!
Awesome thank you!
You're welcome!
ty! this was very helpful :D
Glad to hear it! Keep on playing!
But I can't play the Am. Is on the g side and i am always picking just the c, e and a side. Can I?
Whatever works for you!
You can also try plucking 1 & 4 together and then 2 & 3 together. It doesn't sound too bad and gives it a different quality.
Thanks for adding some picking suggestions!
@@ukeplayalongs No thank you for making the video! I subscribed. The videos are well put together -short, to the point, without all that extra fluff. I had fun trying to play along to 5 songs or so from your channel. Will keep trying to get better.
Thanks! I work hard to provide the right lyrics and chords (all that music training is finally paying off--well, maybe not financially, as we can't monetize play along channels--but in a broader sense of supporting the ukulele world).
If you're curious, you can find a pretty-current list of all (over 1200) the play alongs by different creators at ukeplayalongs.com (free). That's really my blog, but I have the custom URL to make it easy to get to.
I'm just a beginner on the ukulele and how did I learn how to pluck like that in ONE DAY??
Congrats!
I used to do Ukulele lessons and my Teacher Actually thought me this Pattern and picking so it was really easy to do
Glad you enjoyed it!
DDD will also do for the strumming
Thanks for the suggestion!
I think it sounds good with the Am
Thanks!
If you can’t get the picking pattern I recommend strumming DUDUDUDU or if you want it to sound more like the picking you can strum up harder, making it dUdUdUdU. And if you want to challenge yourself that’s great! You can always slow the playback speed down. I find it helps.
Thanks for the tip!
I just like doing the DUDU method because 1: I’m a lefty and 2: plucking is hard for me
Whatever works for you! That is what is important!
This key is just a little too low for my voice, but is there another tutorial I could follow? Hopefully still this easy?
Unfortunately, I don’t think so. When you change the key to make the song more playable on ukulele, you then change the key for singing. So the options are to play the original key, which is more difficult to play on the ukulele, or to play an easier key on the ukulele which may make it harder to sing due to range.
As these videos are made, first and foremost, to be used in schools, our goal is to make songs students can play as they learn ukulele-singing is a secondary aspect.
This is common; people learn “Happy Birthday” in C, which is an awful key to sing in, but far easier to play on ukulele than F, which is generally a good key to sing in.
I’m having a lot of trouble with the G string, Is there any alternatives?
G String or G Chord?
@@ukeplayalongs Oops- sorry chord
What strumming pattern bc I don't have a clue
It’s a picking pattern, which is shown and demonstrated at the beginning of the video.
I don’t understand the picking
Generally, pluck string 3 with your thumb, and strings 2 & 1 with your first and second fingers. That's all there is to it, really.
If you don't like picking the strings you can also use DDU UDU as a strumming pattern
@@maysunscoville1027 UDUDUD works well too instead of the finger plucking. it gives it the same rhythm as the song
You don’t have to pick if you don’t want to, I don’t like picking and I’m comfortable just doing dddd
Nice song..
All the credit goes to the Plain White T's!
@@ukeplayalongs don't forget suscribe my channel please
Yay! I did it finally did it
With a guitar......XD. I’m bad at ukele
Just think of the ukulele being the top 4 strings of the guitar...at the fifth fret.
My newer play alongs (Lyric Based) show just chords and lyrics (no charts), and you might find that format more accessible to you!
That’s how it went for me too haha
im so confused on how you play a Am with the plucking pattern because its only the 3 strings that are getting plucked?
i just improvised and did the same plucking pattern but at the top, doesnt sound great but it works untill i figure out how.
Please someone explain, my brain is gonna explode ;0
Simple answer: Not everyone picks. Some people just want to strum, and the chord still has to work with the song.
any body know any good strumming patterns for this? I know it says plucking but I kinda like strumming more
You can strum anything you want. The plucking approximates what the Plain White T’s actually played on the song.
@@ukeplayalongs thank you so much! are there any you recommend that would go well with the song?
If you can just play beats 2 & 4, that would work.
DDUDUDUD or DDU UDU work well with the song
Why even put the Am chord....?
Some people may not want to finger pick, and just strum.
@@ukeplayalongs I'm one of those 😛
thank you .
David Hauck you use it a lot...
David's thought was looking at the finger picking pattern, you don't need to use the 4th string at all. So the question makes sense!
You are very welcome, by the way.
What strings do you pluck when for the Am? :)
If you’re just following the video, string 3, then strings 1 & 2 at the same time. As another person commented, you don’t really need to even make an Am chord to do that...
The same as the others is more to make the transition from the am to f easier. I'd say That's why they have done it that way
Me trying to learn this but crying the whole time bc this song reminds me of my ex :’D
Music helps us process those tough emotions.
i can relate, i used to love this song, and then i figured out my ex was cheating on me when we were dating, and now i just get upset every time i hear songs that reminded me of her
is there an alternative for the g chord?
Can I ask why? The G chord is the second most used chord on ukulele in GCEA tuning and is essential to learn. If you let me know what is challenging you with it, I can try to help!
Strumming pattern?
I think the video shows a suggested fingerpicking pattern...use that for the whole song.
Nicole Mirabito in the beginnning
You can use DUDU or DDU UDU they both work really well with the song
How i do the strumming?
There is no strumming and the video shows how to do the picking.
I wanted to learn this bc of Quackity -w-
I'm not familiar with that!
That's why I'm here too-
I didn’t do bad on this but I didn’t do the best will keep practicing
That's all any of us can do...keep working until we're better!
If u can't get the picking up yet just go up and down with the beat
Thanks for adding a strumming suggestion.
@@ukeplayalongs no problem just helping
why does he sound like he has bubbly silva in the back of his throat?
It's the fact the audio has been lowered from the original pitch to be playable in C.
If u don’t wanna pick the strum pattern that that worked for me was DUDUDU
Thanks for your suggestion!
Can you play it without plucking ;-; cuz mag fingers are turning into ketchups for plucking ang I'm a little confused at the plucking
Absolutely. You can play it any way you like. Just for the sake of others that might read this...this is one of the reasons I don’t specify strumming in most of the play along videos-because ultimately the only right answer for strumming is what works for you, the player.
@@ukeplayalongs oh ok tnx a-anyways
What type of ukelele did you use?
Any soprano, concert, or tenor ukulele.
fianlly a hey there delilah play along i can understand-
Glad it is there for you.
sorry to fast and i have been doing this for an year sorry
You can always use the gear icon in UA-cam to slow down a video and practice it that way.
sound of silence
Did you try to search ukeplayalongs (this channel) and Sound of Silence? ua-cam.com/video/aqhXvHta5Yk/v-deo.html
plain white t on chords xD
Most people don’t notice those little details when I do them.
My name is qistina delylah😂💛💛
Welcome!
am i the only one that doesn't have probelms at playing this song at all? Lmao ssdjdjxo
this is much harder with adhd :,)
Good luck!
it is so hard to pluck with nails!!
Nails should help with picking; making chords with the left hand is another thing altogether.
@@ukeplayalongs yeah but it makes a weird noise when I pluck sometimes, it has gotten better though, they aren’t YEYE long the only troublesome note is Em😂💕
Em is one of my favorites. Plant the first finger, and then "waterfall" the others down the neck. You can also move all the fingers up a string (not a fret) and play B7 that way. And Em and B7 sound great together, if you are looking for something to practice!
@@ukeplayalongs oh I absolutely love Em, in the beginning of her three Delilah I was confused because the picking sounded so fermiliar... I was thinking of a million dreams🤣
imma have a mental break down trying to learn this crap
Then you're taking it all too seriously. Breathe deeply, and enjoy the process. There are over 1200 songs like this (see ukeability.org as a great way to sort through them) at all kinds of playing levels.
my poor wrist
my wrist has died
If you're picking, your fingertips should hurt, not your wrist! 😄
@@ukeplayalongs Oh, goodness. My fingertips don't hurt at all but my wrist does... What am I doing wrong?
You need to keep that wrist straight most of the time...my guess is that you are arching your wrist instead of keeping it straight. You can rotate the wrist to accommodate a different chord (like the E7) but it should never really bend. And are we talking about the left or right hand wrist?
We all came here from tik tok 🥳🧤
Good deal! There are some more Tik Tok songs coming, although I don't program that way (I look at the Top 40 at times to see what's new and popular).
