    I agree with you 100% on the plants, but when it comes to driftwood and rock, if you have a place to put it, keeping stuff stashed somewhere isn't a horrible idea. If you have it laying around, you can play with it as you need, not buy it as inspiration hits you. Relying on the whim of fate to have what you're looking for when you're looking for it never works out for me 😂

    Perfect timing JoAnna. I've been collecting new sand, rocks, and plants for a tank do over. And I have stuff stashed EVERYWHERE. LMBO. I've got rocks, all sizes, stack on shelves and in buckets. Etc etc. I will never use all of this on just one tank. So now I have to figure out a way to store what I don't use. Until I need it of course. Because you know, that I might need that someday. LOL. 😉

    Great video Joanna! ⭐️ In many areas of the home I fall into the trap of “I might need that” and hold onto too much for sure. I had a little talk with myself yesterday about how many plants I brought inside to overwinter. Too much!! Remind me of this next spring!! 🫢🌷😳🌱☺️

    • @thesmallscape
      @thesmallscape  7 місяців тому +2

      Haha. You’ve had the talk too, huh? Too funny! I’ve done that before and brought too many inside. Thanks for the reminder though- I need to start finding places for my little plant friends. 🏡 ☺️

    • @cherylbelott
      @cherylbelott 7 місяців тому +1

      May you find lots of sunny spots for them in your home!! 😊 I lack those spaces and by Feb many plants usually give up. So next spring I just need to remind myself to buy less so I don’t repeat the cycle! Lol. Have less and appreciate more, right?! 😊

    • @thesmallscape
      @thesmallscape  7 місяців тому +2

      @@cherylbelott yes. Exactly. I unfortunately have one sunny window up here and it’s in the loft. I need to use better once the remodel starts. 🌱🌱☺️🌱🌱

    Tupperware cabinets are the worst! I have to go through at least once every few months to get rid of those lids that fit nothing!
    I've quit going to petco at all, unless it's a quick run in for frozen food (it's half the price at lfs but that's 30 min away😢) because I feel guilty for days afterwards for not rescuing every betta!
    And I TOTALLY get the plant purchase and not use thing. I go to my club and literally want every plant. I have a plant bucket on my balcony that's really suffering. I need to do what you were saying, even if I think I have a place, I can't buy it unless I can plant it immediately! And break down my poor plant bucket!

    Number 1. Yeeessss! I live in a desert and can find some really nice pieces of wood. I literally have boxes of wood and rocks in my garage. I get hit twice as bad because I use them for both aquariums and terrariums.

    Clutter. For me a never ending story. Glad you are better at uncluttering than I am. You are right on looking at the fish. I have to leave the wallet in the car. If one does buy a fish, best to carry a cooler bag so that they survive the cold going home.

  • @johnlasco894

    I can usually pass up the fish, but I have a hard time passing up plants. In my defense, the nearest aquarium store is two hours away, and Petco is down the street. When they have anubias (not too often) I grab them up.
    So I have the same problem, too many plants and not enough aquariums. And I only attach them to rocks or wood part of the time, so I'm constantly turning them when they're floating so they don't all become 'anubias contortus'

    LOL.. Should... I never ever glue anything down.. 1 because I make a dang mess. 2 because I like to rearrange my tanks. I get bored with it and like to change it up. I have decided I like to be unhappy with my scapes so I have a reason to change things. (Wink) also I have a large Tupperware container with used aquarium "stuff" Mostly trash but hey sometimes I pull something out and re use it. Oh, and yes, those beautiful Bettas. I truly have to walk on by or I get a new friend.

    Off topic but can you speak to lower outflow filters in smaller tanks.
    I have found most of the smaller HOB filters out there do not really break the water surface sufficiently.
    I have a Betta in a 5.5 gallon tank along with a few Nerite snails with the Forza PFE1 filter.
    I'm a bit concerned with the amount of oxygen getting into the water due to lack of surface agitation.
    Then again, I don't want my Betta getting tossed around by a larger outflow filter.
