I'm intensly learning the original Hydra now, desperatly avoiding slipping into Vangelis-mode. :) I've actually managed some brutal industrial sounds. Not that I could re-create them even with a gun to my head, but I learn more and more what I can do. Great synth! My Volcas are so jealous....
Okay so i am totally convinced for this synth about basses, pads, leads, classics and analog sounds, but i have hard time finding people creating some intense rave/hard house chords, I'm sure it can but it would definitely sell it for me to hear it in a process 😊
It can 100% do that and a lot more! I might do some more videos in 2014 for sound design to cover harder stuff. I’m really into my hard electro and punk techno etc so il do some videos ok pushing the synth. I always say hydra is a Swiss Army knife of a synth, I’ve managed to get all sorts out of it, it’s very versatile
@@jamesorvis_mixhackers thanks for the answer ! How do you find the DAW integration (Ableton) possibilities? Is it convenient to retouch and edit a patch and automations in a daw afterwards? I was at first enthusiastic for Minifreak because I owned and enjoyed both minibrute and microfreak, but the sound of hydra is another level, and the sound design Interface seems incredible, only thing is DAW Integration and how it'll get in a global workflow

Hi mate I’m a bit fresh to all the daw/synth game. I picked up the hydrasynth explorer as my first synth. Is it possible through ableton to play a midi sequence and then loop it as you are here while meddling with the parameters live?
Do you mean when selecting a new preset? Unfortunately the hydra is pretty bad at switching sounds, there’s a pause in the sound cutting off and some latency until next sound starts. It’s not like other synths, like the Typhon that one is great as you can seamlessly select a new preset without cutting the sound
@@jamesorvis_mixhackers yes.....the Korg opsix and wavestate does maintain the previous sound whilst the keys are still pressed and remain pressed..... then the new selected preset can be played on the right hand while the previous preset still rings on the left hand..... but I asked this becos I saw a hydrasynth deluxe video just few days ago demonstrating the smooth transition....I didn't save that video n now can't find it....

I just went on multi mode and one of the layers will continue to ring it's preset while the other layer can flip to other presets without cutting out the first preset.....and then whilst playing we can switch it over now the right hand layer can hold the ringing while the left hand layer changes presets..... another way is to split the keyboard.. thks for yr great videos!! Also jus recieved my Hydrasynth Deluxe and the same way works on it as well.....
Every synths different, moog has a signal path layed out that makes it super quick to achieve this. The Hydra goes above and beyond this sound though and that’s the point in this synth. This sound is one of the early sounds that I make in the course because it’s very basic, later on we go nuts and the subsequent37 can’t go there. I will say I actually find the hydra a breeze to work with, it’s quick and intuitive and layed out nicely. If it wasn’t a carefully paced tutorial I could knock this up super quick.
Hey James I paid for the course thanks. How long will the content be avaialble. It is going to be a few weeks before I get the time I need to focus on the Hydrasynth.
Can be very warm too, oscillators can be harsh but you don’t have to use complex waveforms, if you do just dial in filter, envelopes etc. I’ve made some super warm moogy stuff, warm basses and nice pads. It’s very capable

In my voice menu the glide curve can only be -32 exponential, there is no -32 logarithmic. Did I do something wrong?

on the subsequent 37 it takes 10 minutes i think , why its so complicated to do a baseline like that on this ?!
