Had to replace this the other day. I had a plumber take the old one out, which is made of fiberglass or something and it was fused into the boiler. I was given a brass immersion well with probe. Once that was taken out, it fitted pretty good. Just took a lot of work to remove old unit.
its almost ironic, this is a heating system for sakes - oh sure some chemical engineer has guaranteed the plastic can withstand cycling heat expansion but why even bother - swap these for brass as soon as you can.

this control is so problematic i prefer Honeywell.
