What’s even rarer about it is that its the -500. Only 36 A340-500’s were built and only 7 remain active. Of those 7, this one with Qatar Amiri is only 1 of 2 still in a passenger configuration. 1 of them is being used by Sands Aviation for private charter and is the other in passenger configuration and 4 of them are being used by state governments. In summation, the remaining A340-500’s are as follows 1 for Sands Aviation in the US 1 for Qatar Amiri 1 by the Turkish Government 1 for the Royal Thai Airforce 2 for Kuwait 3 were not built(2 for France and 1 for Kingfisher Airlines) 8 are stored 9 scrapped 10 are parked on various stands across the globe The -500 truly is a rare bird.
What an amazing collection, nice to see the KLM machine disappearing into the twilight. I don't envy people often, but good grief, a whole week at St Maarten, that is a tripple WOW. Thanks Alex, Bas YVR
Screw the A340, thanks for showing the local traffic Alex. So many videographers just show the same old heavies which we can see all over the world; but your video is unique because it includes planes and services which can only be seen at this airport.
I love seeing the private business jets land and taking off!! They are so beautiful. I miss seeing a few private business aircraft in Los Angeles- LAX when we would land there.😊 The Gulfstream and Bombardier are just a few beautiful aircraft that I love seeing.😊
😂 Hahaha!! It is hard leaving a vacation paradise on the aircraft taking you home.😊 You always want to come back soon. Hahaha😊!! I feel that way about Hawaii!!😊😊
I do like the Dehavellent Canada plane, but what a trimendous video we have to watch, so a big thanks goes to the person who made this trimendous video of planes coming in & going out.
This was a real beauty. Great video quality, outstanding spotting location, nice selection of jets and turbos. Good catch on the BN Islander. This has to be one of your best presentations.
Such a beautiful airport! If you ever get the chance, you should plane spot at Santos Dumont in Rio. It’s my favorite airport in the world and makes for amazing scenic takeoff and landings!🇧🇷
The best plane-spotting video I have seen! Brilliant videography, Alex! Splendid use of low angle of light at sunset, and appealing angles of view. Fabulous!
😊I'm watching this Planespotting Video in St.Maarten that Alex Posted I hope he'll Visit Other Caribbean Destinations next like Puerto Rico,Nassau even The Aruba,Curaçao and Bonaire. Just too name a few also I Heard that London City Airport even Heathrow and Gatwick Airports is the busy too Awesome Video Alex Praglowski keep going Man nuff Respect to all your Videos on Aviation and Travel!!!!
If you want another angle there’s a new patio bar at El Zafiro you can walk to from Maho. You can also walk from there to Simpson Bay which is literally right beside the runway for additional views.
hey Alex, great video! I just have one request: Is it possible for you to add in the flight times? I'm just curious about how long the planes took from their original destination. all in all can't wait for the next plane spotting video!!
That would be nice, too, and I believe you can also track those flights on flightradar24's channel. Of course, you'd have to know on which dates each of these shots were filmed, since there may have been more than one. I don't think it'll be that easy.
Next time you go there Alex, take the Winair flight to Saba, the shortest runway in the world and I can recommend a hotel on Saba too. I was there for work a few times. I look forward to it.
TOO SHORT!! When I saw “1 :04” I thought way too long, I’ll break it up into 15 or 20 minute chunks over a few days. Hah! I was soon disabused of that idea. Your already superb photography just gets better and better. And do you have some deal with God for the great lighting? Now I’m sure I’ll have to get back to SXM again. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
I just about fell over when I saw the Trilander! Back in 1975 I flew on one in Fiji from Nausori (Suva) to Savusavu on a neighbouring island. Britten-Norman BN-2A Mk.III-2 Trislander, C/N 1004, Tail Number DQ-FCE.
Hey Alex! 👋 it's nice being able to live through you vicaresly hahaha 😆 however, have you ever seen a Boeing 777 land there? I'm assuming since 747's used to fly there with KLM, then certainly a 777 should be able to get in and out of this absolutely gorgeous tiny airport 😄 hahaha Thanks Alex and stay safe always! Your friend a retired police officer from the US but now living full time in the Philippines 🇵🇭 since 2018! See ya later alligator after a while crocodile 🐊 😉 😜
Wow! that must be a little tight for the A330’s and 340’s. Especially for the A340. They must have to keep it pretty light as that’s only a 7500 foot runway.
Alex I think I've answered my earlier question regarding the Boeing 777 flying there, I see the Qatar Airways A340-500 there and if that beast can go there, then the Boeing 777 moat certainly can do it! Hahaha 😁
That A340 was absolutely STUNNING! Nice catch
QATAR A340 is an excellent catch! Hope you're doing good Alex!
I wonder what It was doing at the airport at this time...
Members of the royal family on vacation perhaps...
I thought it got discontinued
@3B-bughini the A340 is used by the Qatari government. No longer a commercial aircraft.
more a QATAR Rocket...
The Qatar A340 is the absolute rarest plane you can ever hope for in sint marteen

37:47 that 757F had a very close tail strike upon rotation and that A340 departure was spectacular
i think it’s more the curvature of the runway
That was totally epic! 🤩🤩🤩
Impressive Footage!!
Ongelooflijk! Ik wil hier altijd naartoe gaan en vliegen met mijn thuisvervoerder KLM.
My favourite was the Trislander for sure, along with the Otters and ATRs. Ta!
I flew on the jetair Fokker back when they had the PJ-JAB in use last summer. Also CUR-SXM-CUR! Awesome little aircraft!
