Amazing to think Glasgows oldest house was once a sweet factory😮 St Nick’ garden looks such a beautiful space. Thankfully at least part of the tontine building was saved, it looked such a wonderful building as described in your previous episode
Thanks for this. My granny lived in the tenement behind PL in McLeod Street back in the day. At the time I didn’t know about the history of the area. It’s now one of my favourite corners of Glasgow.
Enjoyed this very much. I have a photo of this building and couldn’t remember its story. Was sure I would remember when I took it but so much came afterward I lost that information in my meager brain. Now I know. Thanks so much. AND Happy Holidays to you🎄🎅 Bobbi R
Thank you very much. I hope you check out the previous videos, there are lots more to come and plenty of pics and chat over on the facebook and instagram pages.
Outstanding. Another great episode from the Resident Historian. I love background history on both Saint Nicholas and our favorite city Glasgow. I had to look twice to make sure it was you, I saw no bicycle. Merry Christmas.
@AstonishingGlasgow it's a total mess is should be more uniform there's flat patches and misses all over it. It shouldn't look that bad I'm a surveyor.
@@AstonishingGlasgow i lived 10 months in Glasgow. I studied politics at strathclyde university snd lived near the cathedral in a Student accomadation. Unfortunately i did Not went often west end. Insteadt i spent my time in todds bar in the Campus
For straight up potted history of the city there are a lot to choose from on Amazon but I dont have a particular recommendation for one in particular. I would recommend Secret Glasgow for short descriptions of Glasgow places. I have a book called Once upon a time in Glasgow which contains stories from Glasgow's earliest years but a real must, and its just back in print is Glasgow, the photos of Raymond Depardon.
I've by-passed the auldest hoose a gazillion times, but i never new it was accessible as a museum. (😆 Loved the pics representating the peeps) you forgot to give the REAL Santa's address. I'll do it for you. (Freepost) Santa Claus MR 1 Santa crescent, Santahill, Santa city, Santagow, Sa8 nta. (Expected better from a former postie.Never forget the post code. NEVER) 🫡
@AstonishingGlasgow uh-oh, he'll be wanting to be my lodger if this keeps up. Imma hide when he's delivering my scalextrix set 'wine alley edition' (polis vans & 89 bus included) 🫣

Your list including Arthur Daley and Winona Ryder nearly had me spitting my coffee out!
I cannot be held responsible for dry cleaning expenses 🤣

Thanks David. Merry Christmas and a very happy new year.
As interesting and enjoyable as ever, thanks.
Thanks as always Dave, always educational and astonishing
Very interesting i livef during m oversea studies in Rottenrow east i did n't visited the sight.
Repentant thieves! 🤣 Poor old Winona.
Shame they got cowboys to do the exterior lime dash render.
I like the outside. It's how it should look and it will save the building into the future.

Isn't Provan Hall house in easterhouse not barlarnock?
Not Barlanark, its Balornock that became the Provan estate which is now surrounded by Easterhouse.
@AstonishingGlasgow cheers bud.
Can you recommend good book about Glasgow?
Do you want a full history book or a picture book? Is it for you as somebody with experience of the city or for somebody who has never set foot here?
Don Quixote

I think he down sized due to economic conditions. Its now 1B Santa Crescent as he subdivided Santa mansions.
